Right, that’s it, I’ve had enough. I’m having a day out. Who’s with me?

(Obviously this isn’t real, before you send the lockdown squad round)
I fancy a day out at Whitby. Wander along the beach. Mooch round the lanes and little shops. Fish n chips. A cold pint of shandy. Think about walking up the steps to the abbey.(then change my mind again) an ice cream then home.
Where are you running away to?

The beach. We're 20 minutes by car away from our nearest and its wrecking me having to tell my three and five year old every day that no we can't just pop to the beach for a quick play.

canonlydoblue · 22/04/2020 23:13

This thread has got me properly weepy.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 22/04/2020 23:14

Lovely thread Smile

Mersea island. Walk by the sea with DD & the dogs. Fish and chips and a very large glass of wine sitting outside in the sun. Catching up and talking and just being outside.

Devlesko · 22/04/2020 23:18

I'd like to take my gd to the park, she's growing up so much, that stage around 18 months. Not a baby anymore.
Aw, I miss her so much and my married son, and ds2 and partner.
I wonder how long it will be before people feel safe for family parties.
I remember that family in Italy where they had a celebration in a restaurant, 4 of died within quick succession.

Dramalady52 · 22/04/2020 23:23

Although the seaside is tempting, my first day out will be a trip to our nearest city to hit the shops and spend money on anything but food!

Jux · 22/04/2020 23:38

There are lovely woods near me. Too far to walk to, especially as I am disabled and can't walk far, but driving there is not allowed is it? 10 minutes drive away is bliss and peace and foresty loveliness......

IamAporcupine · 22/04/2020 23:39

York, to finally be able to meet up with someone I have not seen in over 20 years.

Thinkingabout1t · 22/04/2020 23:40

I'm off to the bluebell woods in Kent. They're gorgeous this year, though tbh they're gorgeous every year. I'm meeting an old friend who lives near one of my favourite woods. We'll stroll and talk and sit and look at the view for a bit, get up a bit of speed striding across the hills, then saunter down to a comfortable old pub and talk till midnight.
Then I'll be home in bed.

springydaff · 22/04/2020 23:47

I decided yesterday I was going to go to the beach. Blow the fine. I was planning how to get there without using the motorway, winding along A roads and through villages.

But the guy was coming to cut the hedges for the first time and I felt I had to be here to supervise, so I didn't go to the beach.

But, sitting on my bed waiting for the gardener, daydreaming, the wind blew through the leaves of the big tree outside my window and it sounded JUST like waves on a beach. For a split second I was transported.

Made me so happy.

Springcatkin · 22/04/2020 23:51

I'll come on the north Yorkshire steam railway to join you in Whitby

PickAChew · 23/04/2020 00:13

@jux you can drive there for your exercise, if it's a short drive.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 23/04/2020 00:42

I'd go back to the Torquay of my dreams when my lovely parents were still alive so they could meet DP. I think they would like him. We'd get a lemon meringue ice cream and wander down Union Street and a mooch around the shops, then down to the harbour for fish n chips for dinner on a bench watching the boats bob up and down. Then a few drinks on the terrace at The Pavilion. Gin for me thanks.

managedmis · 23/04/2020 02:58

Fish and chips do feature a lot here

bettybattenburg · 23/04/2020 04:17

Anywhere on the coast.
For now my favourite outing is the lovely drive to work through the countryside, I almost wish it was a slightly longer commute Hmm

LucaFritz · 23/04/2020 04:25

Id go to whitby too OP i can't wait to take DS on his first getaway just me and him but right now id settle for a coffee in Costa and a mooch around town such simple things we took for granted all gone for the foreseeable future Sad

echt · 23/04/2020 06:16

I'm lucky in that I'm pretty close to the beach on Port Philip Bay and it's now been re-opened. As long as you keep moving. But I want to drive down the Mornington Peninsula to Bushranger's Bay to see proper wild sea of the Bass Strait, and the fabulous rock pools.

MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles · 23/04/2020 06:27

I would happily settle for walking the kids into town, feed the ducks, let them run round the playground. Get lunch out and a slice of millionaire shortbread, change the library books and stop by the greengrocers and co-op together on the way home. I'd buy them the shit magazine and sweets they pester me for. Then in the afternoon I could drink a coffee with a friend as the bigger kids play nicely and the little ones scrap over a toy.

Elephantonascooter · 23/04/2020 06:38

Right now, I'd love a Costa with my mum, a weekly occurance before lockdown. Followed by a day trip to the zoo with dh and DS, ice lollies and DS saying "Sssss" or "quack" at every animal as they're the only animal noises he knows! I find giraffes relaxing so I'd sit near them for our picnic lunch.
If I'm heading further afield, I'm off to Cornwall for an ice cream on the beach, DS toddling down the quiet, tranquil streets, DF and Dh both sun burning their bald heads, and a round of pool in the small pub on the seafront.

BooseysMom · 23/04/2020 06:42

Bedgebury is our Easter tradition and has been for the past five or six years. We go rain or shine.....the only thing that would stop us going is a global pande....fuck

🤣

Brilliant idea for a thread OP. I've laughed and cried.

I also yearn for a walk along the Cornish coast, fish n chips with DH and DS who will prob be less likely to moan if plied with chips and icecream!

Littlejayx · 23/04/2020 06:44

the ice cream farm on Cheshire!

It’s my little girls happy place and I would love to take her and tire her out for the day 😭

TheClitterati · 23/04/2020 07:01

Who knew Whitby was such a desired place!?

Itsabitmessy · 23/04/2020 07:02

I’m straight down the train station and on the next train to London and then on to Essex to hug DD and my DGDs. I miss them so much it physically hurts. Once I get there though I’m happy to stay in so it’s only like I’d be totally flouting lockdown for 5 hours 👍🏻

FromTheAllotment · 23/04/2020 07:27

I love reading all these but tbh I’d be happy with soft play. One of the really big ones. My friend and I would drink shit coffee and talk and talk and talk. The DC would hurtle round like maniacs and every time they got within arms length of us we’d grab them and make them drink some water. Continue until a vat of coffee has been drunk and the DC are a blissfully exhausted mess.

Deathraystare · 23/04/2020 08:09

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow You read my mind, well you and the TV yesterday was going on about Whitby I seem to remember. Yeah that would be very nice! i probably wouldn't complain much if the sea gulls got my chips...well maybe /maybe not..
