Right, that’s it, I’ve had enough. I’m having a day out. Who’s with me?

(Obviously this isn’t real, before you send the lockdown squad round)
I fancy a day out at Whitby. Wander along the beach. Mooch round the lanes and little shops. Fish n chips. A cold pint of shandy. Think about walking up the steps to the abbey.(then change my mind again) an ice cream then home.
Where are you running away to?

This thread makes me sad.

Feedingthebirds1 · 22/04/2020 22:21

Can we have a week on the North Sea coast?

Start in Northumberland in puffin season, boat trip to see them and the seals a must.

Then Whitby for the alleys and the Abbey and the harbour and the fish and chips (Magpie or Trenchers, I'm not fussy). We can do Saltburn on the way there.

Finally Filey, when the tide's out and we can go right out on the Brig, then walk along the sand to Hunmanby Gap for tea/coffee and their home made cakes.

After a week off, we'll go to the Gower and walk the whole of the coastal path around it.

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/04/2020 22:24

The mountains. The train to Bourg Saint Maurice, then the bus.

Next year, maybe.

Armi · 22/04/2020 22:24

And me @Prontoe. Have had to blow my nose and everything.

TomTomRunner · 22/04/2020 22:25

Walk in the country, national trust place.
Cream tea
Look around the shops, esp. charity ones in local town
Out for drinks and dinner in evening

Sigh.

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 22/04/2020 22:25

I want to have a night in a hotel alone. I want to sleep. My toddler hasn't slept in 5 weeks.

ellanwood · 22/04/2020 22:31

@Feedingthebirds1 - I want to do everything on your list. I might tag along a discreet social distance behind you for the whole trip. Grin

Poetryinaction · 22/04/2020 22:32

I'd send dh out with the kids and enjoy having the house and garden to myself.

Gilead · 22/04/2020 22:34

Fossil hunting in Lyme Regis.

joystir59 · 22/04/2020 22:35

I want to eat oysters at our local beach shack and drink Prosecco on the beach

Scoobandlaurs · 22/04/2020 22:36

Ok, self pitying post I had a bad stroke three years ago a bane to been out the house since +Christmas. Isolation is normal as can’t go any where and one to take me out. Yes I still want go out butnevergpingto happen an fed up of hearing how. Miserable It is yes but only way out for me is when Die

Cherrysoup · 22/04/2020 22:41

Drive to a country pub halfway between here and my DH’s family and have lunch with them all. Bit sad, but I love going for drives with my DH and his family is very entertaining.

Santasballsack · 22/04/2020 22:42

@fatzak the Angel is a wetherspoons???
When did that happen? That was where we used to stay before we bought a holiday home Sad

Sparticle · 22/04/2020 22:43

Reading this makes me simultaneously sad (BBQ in my parents’ garden sob) and also wistful - I’m another one who would just drive to the coast. I’m not a massive sitting-on-a-beach person but I want to see the unending sea and just hear the waves.

Going to buy the Coastlines book mentioned above.

Thanks for this thread OP. Flowers

JellyfishandShells · 22/04/2020 22:45

Our 2020 National Trust cards arrived today :/

HuggedTheRedwoods · 22/04/2020 22:53

If no-ones looking I'll go to Llandudno to watch the wild goats running around town.

Areyousurethatsright · 22/04/2020 22:53

I'm going for a night out tonight with friends. A few drinks in Wetherspoons then on to a bar/club where I'll dance til 3am, then grab a McDonalds on the walk to the taxi rank. My children are staying at the grandparents so tomorrow I can laze around eating rubbish and watching old episodes of Dawsons Creek.

elfycat · 22/04/2020 22:55

I've a week in Yorkshire (north of Bridlington) in August. We go for a day in Whitby - try to get to see the excellent Dracula play at the Abbey, eat fish and chips. Might get my palm read at the little kiosk by the harbour.

OP Join my for Fish and Chips and I'll pay Grin

We always park at the top. Walk down to the town. I'll help you back up to the top and we'll get ice cream from the van that parks up there (and we'll get you into the abbey for free as we;re life members of EH)

I bloody hope we can get up there this year. But what will be well be.

I’ve been going out every day, no proof at all lockdown has done diddly squat. No Government knows what it’s doing and we will all get the virus soon enough anyway. So I’ve been loving lockdown as travelling has been really easy.

Nanalisa60 · 22/04/2020 22:57

Really loved reading this thread, when this is all over we will never take our very blessed happy lives for granted again.

This will be over and we will all do our happy days out again!!

I’m off to have afternoon tea with Prosecco!! With my besties

freddiethegreat · 22/04/2020 22:57

I actually thought that a side effect of an undeniably essential trip today was going to be potential to see the sea ... I was scarily excited, but fortunately retained some caution as the person who needed an essential lift found that they didn’t need to at the last moment. 😢 Was a nice thought whilst it lasted!

londonrach · 22/04/2020 23:03

Anywhere with trees and grass would do me...throw in some friends and nothing else needed

londonrach · 22/04/2020 23:04

And family of course!

Candyflosscookie · 22/04/2020 23:08

Edinburgh for me please. A bracing walk up Arthur's Seat. Brunch in a local cafe, not a tourist one. People watch in Princes St Garden. Afternoon tea at the Balmoral. Drinks and dinner somewhere fancy on George Street. Come out a little tipsy and look at the night skyline with the castle to the right and the galleries ahead.
Such a beautiful city.

MysweetAudrina · 22/04/2020 23:10

Probably go get a pedicure with bright polish, eyebrow and lip wax and an indian head massage. Maybe then a yoga class and a nice lunch somewhere. A walk on the beach and an ice cream to finish it off.
