Anyone else gone from slim to fat very quickly?

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 14:30

Since Christmas I've been letting go a bit but sorted it without weighing myself etc in Feb. Since then I've gone downhill again and just realised for the first time today - I am really overweight.

What prompted me to check this afternoon is my face. It didn't feel right, felt all funny at the chin. I can literally FEEL a double chin now when I look at my phone etc.

Took a selfie with DS just now and bang, double chin galore!

Anyone else gone from slim to fat suddenly? I'm usually a firm size 10 and 5'4 in height. I am now a 12 or smaller 14.

Rahhh! Need to get back on track Sad it's so depressing.

I recovered from at eating disorder in my early teens so have to be careful.

Yep, I've gone from a 10, to a snug 12, sometimes 14 and I also feel quite uncomfortable. And it's taking me a lot longer than it would have done once to lose the weight now I've hit 40... I suppose this is 'middle aged spread' and although I've been walking more, and cut calories for the last month I haven't reduced much. Not sure what else I can do 🤷🏽‍♀️

roarfeckingroar · 15/04/2020 20:35

People are very funny about weight on here OP.

If you're short there can feel like a big difference between a 10 and a large 12.

BayandBlonde · 15/04/2020 20:35

@Colinthedaxi

If it wasn't for my horse needing a lighter rider I'm sure I would be alot bigger. I love food Smile

Fedupandpoor · 15/04/2020 20:44

No idea what size I am as I live in elasticated waistbands, but I'm 5'10'' and 10.5 stone. Before my 2nd pregnancy I always hovered around 9. 5 stone which is technically underweight but it suited me perfectly (didn't look underweight) and I ate like a horse. Now I have a bloated belly, double chin and wobbly bits everywhere!

It really is different for everyone and a stone can make a huge difference on some people.

JWrecks · 15/04/2020 20:45

I DID!

I know for certain that in early October I was able to comfortably wear clothes I've always worn, because one date and what I wore stands out for certain in my mind.

By Christmas, those same clothes I wore in October would not even come up over my thighs. VERY rapid weight gain (likely menopause related, I think).

I've been working out - kettlebells and LOTS of cardio - and very carefully watching what I eat for a couple of months now, and I don't think I've shifted any of it. In fact, I think I look even bigger.

I don't own a scale and have only bought the cheapest of larger clothes (so S/M/L pj's, rather than good replacements), so I couldn't tell you how much I've gained exactly, but I'm sure it's 2st at least. I went from a small to a large, for sure. And at this point, I don't even want a scale. I just don't want to know exactly how much I've gained!

tempnamechange98765 · 15/04/2020 20:48

Me! And very similar timings to you OP. My size 10 clothes still fit - just - but my skinny jeans are snug and I'm very bloated. And also have the double chin thing going on!

I indulged over Christmas...got back on track slightly, then overindulged all through February as it was my birthday/anniversary/DS' first birthday so it was cake all month. And now this! I've been eating so much and annoyingly DH is sticking to his healthy eating plan which just makes me feel worse.

I need to cut out the junk. I just love chocolate!

Doolaleetap · 15/04/2020 20:49

In answer to your question I've gone from fat to fatter.

I think there is a little insecurity behind your post.
You've revealed you are in early pregnancy?
Well, I'd say- that's probably the reason for your weight gain?
Don't worry about it- you'll be the only one that's noticed it.

managedmis · 15/04/2020 20:51

Your wording is quite offensive.

^

No, it's not. Not at all.

Baskin · 15/04/2020 20:53

I’ve gained 9 pounds since lockdown! I’m usually more active but now I’m just literally sat on my laptop all day or eating. I’ve went from a comfortable 12 sometimes 10 to can barely do my button up 12, I fee horrible and need to sort it.

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/04/2020 20:53

I know what you mean OP. I went up to a 14 while I was pregnant and hated it. My natural size is 10/12 and I am now a 12/14. I am counting calories (breastfeeding and active so am able to get a good deficiet with 1800-2,000 cals per day). I have tried to give up 100 cals per day of stuff I won’t miss (for me this is usually cups of milky tea) but that might be a good start for you?

applesauce1 · 15/04/2020 21:10

I don't think your wording was offensive at all and I can really relate to your post.

A few years ago, I went from a size 8-10 (5ft9 around 9.5 stone) to a size 12-14 (11.5 stone). I was living abroad and my parents couldn't believe the difference when they came to visit me.

I was eating an enormous amount and I was doing very little activity. I'd gone from being healthy to unhealthy and that was the crux of it for me. Whether a 12-14 is normal and healthy for other people, for me, I knew I wasn't being good to my body.

I was wary of dieting because I, too, had suffered from E.D. for many years in my teens. I completely avoided going on the scales while I was losing the weight.

I focused on becoming healthy and nourishing my body rather than numbers. I used a calorie count app to hold myself accountable and to ensure that I was getting the right amount of everything. I used the cross trainer three times a week and did yoga.

Be kind to yourself, though. This lockdown is new territory for everyone and I'm finding myself going to the cupboards out of boredom more and more.

DaisyDreaming · 15/04/2020 21:21

I did, it started with my thyroid so I dieted and still gained weight and so thought sod it and didn’t keep the diet up (wish I had!).

If it wasn’t in a pandemic I would say get bloods with your GP if there hasn’t been any change in your eating habits but I’m assuming your life might of had lots of changes lately like lots of peoples? I think people mean well when they worry about your history of ED, especially as what’s going on in the world feels out of control and most are out of our normal routine. I hope you can get back to a weight your comfortable at

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 16/04/2020 00:23

If you're used to being small like me, it's quite dramatic going up four sizes. I actually cried today as all my 8's now fit my dd and I've had to purchase a whole new wardrobe.

TheNestedIf · 16/04/2020 00:46

You have my sympathy.

I'm another one with a knackered thyroid, recently discovered. I was quite slim but have put on some weight and am now just about keeping it in check by existing mostly on leaves until they find me the right dose of medication. The aching joints hypothyroidism causes aren't exactly motivating me to do my normal amount of exercise and neither is lockdown as I enjoy being at home alone.

I do not like the weight gain one bit, not the way it looks, not the way it feels, and I fully intend to get rid of it again, no matter how much effort it takes.

ploughingthrough · 16/04/2020 00:58

Op I think you've done really well to notice your weight gain before it is out of hand and get ready to do something about it. You don't have loads to lose to be healthy - just over a stone right?
I looked in the mirror in December and realised exactly the same - I am a couple of inches taller and was a few pounds heavier. 4 months later I'm over 2 stone lighter, middle of my BMI and feeling a whole lot better for it. Nothing offensive about your post.

Trapordo · 16/04/2020 07:26

I think there is a little insecurity behind your post.
ou've revealed you are in early pregnancy?
Well, I'd say- that's probably the reason for your weight gain?

I said when I replied to another poster about this that I was about 3.5 weeks, so no, it wouldnt be the reason for weight gain.

Started bleeding this morning so looks to be a chemical anyway!

OP posts:
Trapordo · 16/04/2020 07:32

Woh, some really disordered thinking here. Re size 14 - but pregnant. What do you expect?

Nothing woh about it. A 14 is overweight for my height and will be for a huge proportion of women in the UK, given the average height of a Brit.

Anyway, if you're going to get defensive then please at least read what I said properly. I said I was 3.5/4 weeks pregnant. So of course being pregnant has 0 relevance

Ugzbugz · 16/04/2020 08:36

Happened to me a few years ago, I'm around 5 foot 3 and was a nice slim ten, i am now a size 12, I have high cholesterol, a double chin, chafing thighs, fat rolling over my knickers and I'm categorically over weight and porky.

mynameiscalypso · 16/04/2020 08:44

I'm so sorry that you're bleeding this morning OP, thinking of you Thanks

Trapordo · 16/04/2020 09:38

Ugz it's so rubbishSad it happens so quickly!

myname Thank you Flowers feeling okay. Very happy with life and have a lovely DS to enjoy (but thankfully can't eat him otherwise that won't help me either) Grin

OP posts:
Juanmorebeer · 16/04/2020 11:36

Oh OP, I'm so sorry! I have also been through that before it is a horrible feeling. I hope you are OK and not in too much pain.

If anyone wants to do a supportive 6 week weightloss thread then I would be very up for it. I've never stuck to a diet before or been part of a thread on here for it so seems a good a time as any to give it a good go!

Let me know and I will start a thread if any interest.

Leflic · 16/04/2020 14:53

I hear you Op. I’m 5’ 4” mostly a 12-14 (11 stone ish) and wasn’t bothered. The wobbly layers round my tummy was annoyed me though.

I did the Blood Sugar diet only lost a stone ti became a small 12 borderline 10 and it was a revelation. Totally flat stomach, toned looking arms and pudgy face. Everything looked better on and I could wear anything I wanted without bits digging in.
Since Christmas I went back to carbs and obviously in lockdown it’s eat what’s available. Been a disaster.
I’m going back to eating mindfully and losing that stone.

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 16/04/2020 17:39

Absolutely relate to Trap. Feeling like a vv overstuffed sausage here. Beautiful weather and not a hope of getting into last year’s summer clothes. Like a pp, I am amazingly adept at rapid weight gain. Not helped by veering between low carb diets. When I come off, bam!! I can easily gain 20lbs in a fortnight.

When I realised my holiday plans weren’t going to materialise, and Swimwear wasn’t going to be necessary, I completely went off the rails for 2 weeks. If lockdown was to end now, and I was back at work in the morning, I wouldn’t have a stitch to wear !!

Trapordo · 16/04/2020 18:31

Juan I'd love a thread like that!

Wish that reminds me of work. I'm off now but was sort of due back in next week. Think it's prolonged again. Anyway, I feel quite ashamed to go in. I can just see it in my face. I wouldn't mind being a 14 at all if I could remain slim in the face, like some people can

OP posts:
StarShapedWindow · 16/04/2020 18:49

I know exactly how you feel. I looked in the mirror about an hour ago and my face looks so different. I’m the same height as you and have gone from a 10 to a 12, the difference is visible and I really hate how my fave looks, I’ve lost the shape of my jawline. I don’t know how to get back in track at the moment - I’m drinking a glass of wine or a gin and tonic every night when the DC go to bed. I don’t want to stop! I never usually eat lunch but with the DC around I’ve been eating with them because I don’t want them to think it’s okay to not eat a meal. I’ll try having a salad for lunch. I think until lockdown is over it’s going to be a struggle!
