Anyone else gone from slim to fat very quickly?

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 14:30

Since Christmas I've been letting go a bit but sorted it without weighing myself etc in Feb. Since then I've gone downhill again and just realised for the first time today - I am really overweight.

What prompted me to check this afternoon is my face. It didn't feel right, felt all funny at the chin. I can literally FEEL a double chin now when I look at my phone etc.

Took a selfie with DS just now and bang, double chin galore!

Anyone else gone from slim to fat suddenly? I'm usually a firm size 10 and 5'4 in height. I am now a 12 or smaller 14.

Rahhh! Need to get back on track Sad it's so depressing.

I recovered from at eating disorder in my early teens so have to be careful.

I was always a size 10 until I had DS nearly 2 years ago. I ballooned up to pushing a size 14 and I felt fat too OP. Ignore what everyone is saying, I felt huge if I’m honest and I started with a fat face and my thighs rubbing together. I then lost 1.5 stone and I’m a small size 12 and can fit in size 10 sometimes. It’s about how you feel about yourself. I wasn’t comfortable at 11st 6 at 5ft 5. I felt big and people noticed my weight loss afterwards.

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 14:45

Size 12 isn't fat. Going up one dress size in 4 months isn't shocking or anything. It's easily fixed, if you want to.

Surely the depends on height? Anyway, I said I was a 10. Am now a big 12 or smaller 14. So really more than just a dress size if I'm being completely honest with myself

I was an 6/8 before having DS but I don't really have an desire to return Grin

It took too much effort and dedication. Lots of restriction. A 10 looks slim and healthy on 'me' with leeway to have some treats

Really didn't mean to cause so much offence!

Don't worry, OP. It's par for the course on Mumsnet. Offence will always be taken where none is given.

KrakowDawn · 15/04/2020 14:50

It really makes a difference if you're short! I've gone from an 8 before Christmas to almost a 12 now, but I feel the difference. I'm not as bony for a start!
And it's v hard to exercise right now, as I'm in a little flat.

Chiyo666 · 15/04/2020 14:50

Haribo is the one who needs to see a GP not you OP!

HarriboEgg · 15/04/2020 14:50

It's rattled me because I'm sick of people posting on her about how fat they've gotten when they quite obviously still slim and healthy.
How can anyone say a size 10 is slim but a 12 is fat. It's the same thing depending on which shop you go into and what their fittings are like.

In 6 months I've gotten seriously ill and ballooned 5 stone. I'm embarrassed and mostly unable to leave the house.

That is something to sad and self-conscious about. Not this, which is obviously and sadly, about what is in OPs head and not her body. Hence me saying she needs to see her GP to help her with this.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 15/04/2020 14:51

I do know what you mean, I used to be a 24 and now I'm a 12. However I did get down to a 10 last year so I now am conscious that I feel big, more so than I did when I was actually big.

BayandBlonde · 15/04/2020 14:52

OP I know exactly where you're coming from.

I'm 5ft 4 and normally a standard size 10 and weigh about 66kg (about 10st 3) I can easily go up and over 11st (size 12) without even realising and at that point I am fat! I don't care what anyone says. If my riding boots and jods don't fit then I've become a lardy 😁

Being a rider of a rather quirky flat racer I need to keep my weight consistent at 10st ish.

BayandBlonde · 15/04/2020 14:52

BTW I'm not saying you are fat. I'm saying, to me and on ME its fat

Colinthedaxi · 15/04/2020 14:53

In the same boat OP - same height as you and I have put a stone on since Christmas. I'm blaming the pill but I know the only way to sort it is to move more and eat less. For what it is worth I always have a double chin even when I have been very slim.

Colinthedaxi · 15/04/2020 14:56

@bayandblonde I'm sat in very uncomfy jods and refuse to take them off as it is keeping me socially distanced from the fridge! The weight I am now doesn't worry me physically but my horse also needs me lighter!

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 14:57

Hmm, just weighed myself and I'm 11 stone 8. So, overweight.

I knew it was going to be an overweight result but did think it would at least be 12 stone so there are some graces there

OP posts:
Anotheruser02 · 15/04/2020 14:58

I'm the same, I'm a 12 now and really don't look nice, when I'm a small 10 I look ok. My frame is small I don't think it's just about height, my size 12 friend looks great in all of her clothes, I look dumpy.

BusterTheBulldog · 15/04/2020 15:01

Totally the same op! Also gone from a slim 10 to a big 12 and with my height etc, I am overweight, and I can feel it when I run etc. Across Easter I seemed to have a handle on my eating but last couple of days I’ve gone mad again.

limebedding · 15/04/2020 15:01

Harribo, I’m sorry that you’re poorly. It sounds as though it’s given you a lot of stress related to both your health and your weight, that sounds really difficult. I can see that perhaps it is hurtful to you if you feel that someone else’s weight or worry doesn’t compare with what you are going through. It does come across as though you are lashing out because of that hurt. OPs intention in posting doesn’t appear to be for comparison or causing offence to others. I hope you and OP both manage to make peace with or changes to your weight to make you both happy, and I hope that your illness is one which you are able to make a swift recovery from.

darkchocolateeggs · 15/04/2020 15:02

Yes for your height a snug size 12 is a bit on the bigger side. If people could see this then perhaps not so many people would be overweight. It's good you've noticed before it creeps up more.

I'm 5 foot 9 and a size 12 which makes me in the middle-high end of a normal bmi. My friend is 5 foot 2 and wears a size 12. She is officially obese. Just. I think she looks great but people need to realise that a size 12 means different things for different heights. Plus vanity sizing means it's a lot bigger than it was a few years ago anyway.

Anyway op it's bloody hard in lockdown to move more and eat less. Can you get out for a longer exercise at all? Try to eat healthy meals as often as possible but don't beat yourself up for the odd slip up at the moment. Even if you cut your calories by 250 a day so one chocolate bar or alcoholic drink or a smaller portio. At dinner you'd be losing half a pound a week. If you could cut a bit more you could lose a pound a week. I've been trying to eat smaller meals as I know I'm going to end up snacking more often and moving less. I've still gained a few pounds though so you're not alone Hmm

browzingss · 15/04/2020 15:02

@HarriboEgg OP is not saying that every single person who is a size 12/14 is fat, she’s saying she’s put on weight so she feels “fat” compared to her usual size. It’s not that difficult to comprehend. You don’t need to take offensive to everything.Confused

At a size 10 she could have had a flat stomach and at 12 she might not, therefore that’s why she felt slim at 10 and overweight at 12? Your own issues have nothing to do with her, stop projecting.

Shorter people carry weight differently, there’s much more of a visual change. Someone 5”4 at size 14 would look different to someone 5”7 at the same size. And as someone mentioned before, as a shorter person the increase in weight could be enough to move her to a different BMI category, placing her more susceptible to certain health issues.

OP, All you can really do is exercise as much as you can under lockdown and perhaps look into meal planning. As it hasn’t been that long since you have gained the weight, your body should snap back to your usual weight.

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 15:03

Colin Not been riding since my pony club days but have been keen to get back into it recently! Maybe that'll be the goal

BaroleCaskin · 15/04/2020 15:03

OP I'm the same height as you and when I got weighed on the machine in boots it said my ideal weight is between 7st 10 and 11St 4. So I can confirm for our height you are (very slightly) overweight. Why are some people getting their Knickers in a twist? You don't have tk be morbidly obese to be overweight. If you see yourself gaining weight early enough, like the OP has done, you can prevent yourself going down the slippery slope to huge weight gain.

Drogonssmile · 15/04/2020 15:08

OP I feel the same. I managed to lose 2 stone last year to get comfortable in a size 10. Since Feb I'm back up to a large 12 /
small 14 and have the same chin trouble. Not exactly a double chin but I know where you're coming from. Sad

Had to go shopping this morning and stocked up on healthy stuff. A large local catering butcher near us has recently started selling to the public as all their orders from hotels and restaurants are obviously not happening now and got a load of lovely marinated meat to go with salads so going to try that rather than chocolate and more chocolate.....

Bodie83Nahla · 15/04/2020 15:08

Weight definitely looks different on different heights and builds. If someone feels large at a size 12 they shouldn't be berated because they're "not that big" - it's always easier to correct weight gain before it goes too far.
I'm 5ft 1 and at 9 stone 7 I am size 12 and borderline overweight. To be a healthier size 8-10 and reduce excess stomach fat I would ideally be between 8.5 and 9 stone, which I'm aiming for. You dont have to be size 20 plus to want to lose weight and become healthier. And the shorter you are the more each excess pound shows.

PippaPegg · 15/04/2020 15:12

Totally get it OP. I was a curvy size 8 pre kids and felt perfectly healthy. 2 DC later I'm size 14 and feel like a fat blobby heifer. I've been down to a size 10 in between which felt a lot better but then got pregnant again and bam! Piled it on.

I hate the thigh rubbing feeling, drives me mad. Hadn't even realised how huge my thighs were until I wore a skirt for the first time this year.

I look like a comedy fatsuit version of myself. It fucking sucks.

And no I'm not doing anything about it. No one in my house needs me to be hangry on top of the general lockdown chaos and stress!

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 15:14

Just did the NHS BMI calculator and it says a healthy weight range for 5'4 is 7st 10lbs to 10st 6lb.

I was just under 8 stone when 8 had an eating disorder and looked really quite frail and unwell. Not sure how that weight would be considered healthy on me? Seems too thin to me

Something similar has happened to me and l don’t like it. I have gone through a similar size change to you in the past year. Looking forward to stopping taking fertility drugs as most of it is due to them
