Anyone else gone from slim to fat very quickly?

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 14:30

Since Christmas I've been letting go a bit but sorted it without weighing myself etc in Feb. Since then I've gone downhill again and just realised for the first time today - I am really overweight.

What prompted me to check this afternoon is my face. It didn't feel right, felt all funny at the chin. I can literally FEEL a double chin now when I look at my phone etc.

Took a selfie with DS just now and bang, double chin galore!

Anyone else gone from slim to fat suddenly? I'm usually a firm size 10 and 5'4 in height. I am now a 12 or smaller 14.

Rahhh! Need to get back on track Sad it's so depressing.

I recovered from at eating disorder in my early teens so have to be careful.

Same height here and 11s 3.6lb when I got on the scales yesterday and a BMI of 27.2. Definitely feeling fat and unhealthy.

I was 9st 8lb a year or so ago and felt good. I need to get back there and think this is the kickstart I need!

1moreRep · 15/04/2020 15:24

i think the op is getting a hard time here, she has put weight on and gone from a place she liked to a place she isn't happy with. she is after support not a flogging!

OP, the best thing you should do is look at your food, record everything on an app and keep within your calorie amount (you can work this out on my fitness pal or james smith pt)

up your activity, get some goals and you will be back there in no time. i put on a kilo and was gutted but went back to basics, monitored and weighed myself daily and it came off.

it's so easy to put weight on if you are self isolating, but you can still walk/ run and do home workouts.

good luck! remember you are doing this for your physical and mental health which is far more rewarding than any unhealthy meal

Coffeecak3 · 15/04/2020 15:25

I'm your height OP and just under 9 stone.
Personally when I dropped to 8st 4lbs I looked ill because I actually was.
I think if you dropped a stone ( or a dress size) you would be happier in yourself and that's what counts.

OntheAgendatoo · 15/04/2020 15:34

Hi
I'm exactly the same height as you and have experienced exactly the same :(

A year ago I was just right at 9 stone 10lbs and now I'm what feels like a whopping 10 stone 7 lbs. I've been trying to home exercise every day in an efforts to lose some lb's but it's a slog. I think if you make small changes it will eventually come off, but I know what you mean, if you have a smallish frame every bit of extra weight feels visible and uncomfortable.

When you've been slim it's really hard to accept that you're not really slim anymore, and it's depressing. I never feel better than when I'm under 10 stone, and all my clothes fit! What weight are you Trapordo?

Shadeslayer · 15/04/2020 15:42

The chin is how I know I'm putting weight on gives me the fear

Juanmorebeer · 15/04/2020 15:54

I'm in a similar situation. I'm 5ft and now at my biggest and yes I wear a 12 but I am in the obese category right now at that size.

I was an 8 for years and didn't have to try hard. But now my metabolism has completely changed beyond recognition (I'm 33 now) so I need to up my exercise and cut my calories drastically somehow.

Starting a new role in 6 weeks so that is my deadline. I've had no motivation since lockdown, just been eating more than ever

Juanmorebeer · 15/04/2020 15:54

Don't know about you but where are you in your cycle? I can really see it in my face and chin when I am due on

Shockers · 15/04/2020 15:58

I’m 5’3” - between a 12 and 14 and I’m chubby. It shows more on small frames. If the OP feels fatter, she feels fatter!

Trapordo · 15/04/2020 15:59

Juan Pregnant Blush but only just! Literally about 3 weeks and a half. Period not even due yet

Thighmageddon · 15/04/2020 15:59

Only time that happened to me was when my thyroid went under active and I didn't even know anything about it other than getting fatter quite quickly and feeling a bit blah. Gp had done a test unbeknown to me.

OntheAgendatoo · 15/04/2020 16:50

Oh if it's any consolation you have lovely skin :)

Mammyloveswine · 15/04/2020 16:57

Omg me! I've put 2 stone on in the past year, a stone and a half since November! I'm the heaviest I've ever been! It's disgusting! 3 stone heavier than where I was on my 30th birthday!

I rejoined slimming world today, virtually and already I feel better!

The plus side is I'm not seeing people regularly due to lockdown so hopefully when I do see people they will notice as I lose weight!

mynameiscalypso · 15/04/2020 17:03

Oh I totally get you. I'm known for my fast ability to put on and lose weight. I went away on holiday once with a borderline underweight BMI and came back borderline overweight. It's a gift...

ifowaa · 15/04/2020 18:33

One stone is the difference of me being slightly under-weight to being quite overweight (rolls of fat around my middle - which is an indication that your weight is un-healthy.)
I totally get what you are saying Op.
It's frustrating as I can't get away with a few extra pounds, non of my clothes fit (I'm generally a size 10) but I am very small boned, and one stone is just over 10% of my body weight, so it shows a lot.

TheSheepofWallSt · 15/04/2020 18:51

Oh yeah. Went from a firm toned 8 to a very wobbly 14/16 in 3 years.

Number of factors- had a baby, breastfed, stopped breastfeeding, became a single parent, work ridiculous hours, don’t get enough sleep and never have time to exercise.

It’s horrified me and I can barely look in the mirror. Makes my slightly yellowed teeth/ greying hair/ bad skin look 100 times worse. I’m a mess.

Celandines · 15/04/2020 18:59

I became obese by putting on an average of 6 lb a year over ten years after my youngest was born. ie. Half a pound a month on average. I've never binged but just ate too many calories over a long period!

Patsypie · 15/04/2020 19:14

Your wording is quite offensive. A lot of people would love to be a size 12. I am fighting bulimia at the moment so please give your head a wobble and don't be so bloody rude.

Needallthesleep · 15/04/2020 19:19

Yes this is me. I was a standard 10, but have jumped to a 14. Admittedly I am also pregnant and have had horrendous morning sickness which meant I’ve eaten mainly crisp sandwiches for 3 months.

I’m gutted. I realised in the mirror the other day I have actual fat person arms.

MurrayTheMonk · 15/04/2020 19:23

Yep, I've gone from a 10, to a snug 12, sometimes 14 and I also feel quite uncomfortable. And it's taking me a lot longer than it would have done once to lose the weight no I've hit 40... I suppose this is 'middle aged spread' and although I've been walking more, and cut calories for the last month I haven't reduced much. Not sure what else I can do 🤷🏽‍♀️

carriebreadshaw · 15/04/2020 19:47

Are you drinking enough water? That chin looks like water retention to me

springydaff · 15/04/2020 20:11

Woh, some really disordered thinking here. Re size 14 - but pregnant. What do you expect?

I agree that talking about just over 10st as 'whopping' isn't considerate - an awful lot reading would love to be 10st.

Op I don't think eating disorders go away. It's common to swing across the whole spectrum of eating disorders over long periods of time with huge breaks in between.

Try OA

Re:
Who belongs in OA?
Primarily, whether an individual belongs in Overeaters Anonymous is a decision for that individual alone. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively. This may include compulsive overeating, under eating, dieting, starving, over exercising, vomiting, laxative abuse or any other of a number of symptoms related to eating and measures aimed at weight management. Whatever your problem with food, you are welcome in OA. The terms compulsive eater and compulsive overeater are used interchangeably throughout our literature.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 15/04/2020 20:16

No, I’m the opposite actually. I started on a health kick the week before lockdown and I’m bloody well sticking to it (I’ve lost a stone in 4 weeks - smug) simply because I feel so much better mentally for eating healthily and exercising. If I had carried on the way I was I know I’d be so depressed at the moment.
It’s more about how I feel than how I look for me and the current situation has been a really good motivation for me to stick at it!

Babytalkobsession · 15/04/2020 20:26

I totally understand. It's crazy that people are offended that you're saying you feel fat just because they feel fatter. We all have our limit with what we're comfortable with.

I'm 5'8 and just tipped 11st1 and do not feel good. I've just started a healthy eating plan and hope to get to 10st 4. The 10lb difference is massive to how I feel and how clothes fit me. Right now my extra weight is sitting around my middle, ankles and bingo wings and I don't feel good.

I wear a 10 or 12 but dress sizes have changed over recent years.

Xenia · 15/04/2020 20:32

Best to go by weight not sizes as clothes sizes vary. As the poster said above for our average UK female height - "Just did the NHS BMI calculator and it says a healthy weight range for 5'4 is 7st 10lbs to 10st 6lb."
So try to stay under 10 stone 6 and ideally be in the middle or lower of that band particularly as Covid 19 seems to hit those who are overweight particularly hard.

Runningonempty84 · 15/04/2020 20:33

I know how you feel, OP. The number of people saying "it's only one dress size" illustrates why we have such a problem with weight in this country. The OP has put weight on, found herself medically overweight, wants to do something about it - and people are having a go at her?!

IME, at 11st 3 I was a size 12 and fat. I'm now 9st, a size 8-10, and not fat. It might only be one dress size, but for me it was 2st and the difference between a BMI of 20 and a BMI of 25 - which is actually quite a lot.

OP, I hope your pregnancy goes well. I'm sure your weight will go down again afterwards, if you want it to Smile
