Worst British Sitcoms of all time!

In your opinion what is the worst British sitcom of all time.

My definition of Sitcom, is a comedy that prime purpose is to be “funny”. For Example shows such as Being Human, Fleabag, my mad fat dairy, Brasic and Jonathan Creek don’t count as whilst they contain humour they are not what most would consider a sitcom as they contain to much of a serious undertone. (Not saying these are bad shows, I just see them refer to as sitcoms a lot when they technically are not)

What is the one where Nicholas Lyndhurst has to look after his “teenage” twins played by Tracy Baker and the slave out of Plebs. That was dire, think it might of been a spin off from my family.

I also despise sit coms that use canned laughter. I have absolutely no problem with shows that are taped in front of a studio audience, but don’t add a laugh track, when there is clearly no audience!

don’t add a laugh track, when there is clearly no audience!

Or when it's clearly not funny. I'm not going to be any more likely to laugh at an unfunny gag just because a lot of recorded people are laughing and whooping hysterically.

pinkrocker · 10/04/2020 16:49

Gavin and Stacey. Unbelievably unfunny and cringe worthy. Not going out. Mrs Brown's boys is only funny when he forgets his lines and everyone corpses.
Have to say I have a very wierd, dark sense of humour, the only thing that makes me laugh every time now is Cats Does Countdown. And Ghosts was funny too, as was the recent "My left nut".

My DS made me watch the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. It's the only episode I've seen, so probably not fair to judge, but oh my god, I cringed so hard through the whole thing...

RibenaMonsoon · 10/04/2020 17:03

Harry Hill. Wtf is that bloody puppet all about? The most unfunny bloke on television.

AdaColeman · 10/04/2020 17:04

Duty Free, what a waste of actor Keith Barron.
My Hero, (Thermoman) terrible plot and special (!!!) effects.

FailingMeansYouArePlaying · 10/04/2020 17:04

Only fools and horses makes my blood boil

FailingMeansYouArePlaying · 10/04/2020 17:04

I can't even explain why

Cattenberg · 10/04/2020 17:42

I like Only Fools and Horses! I also enjoy Porridge and Peep Show. Dad’s Army can be very funny too; I liked the episode with St George and the Dragon.

One that hasn’t been mentioned is Dark Ages. It starred Phill Jupitus, Pauline Mclynn and Sheridan Smith. I only saw one episode, but it stuck in my memory as being particularly awful.

Wunderweb · 10/04/2020 17:43

Deadly Ernest
Late Ducks
Dear John
Bread
All rubbish yet I still remember them...

ellabella18 · 10/04/2020 17:49

Oh God it had to be Miranda, Father Ted was also diabolical.

underneaththeash · 10/04/2020 17:54

Mrs Brown's boys has never been funny....I just don't get who it's meant to appeal to - who are these millions of people that watch it?

I think by far the worst though has to be Last of the Summer Wine - why??

Starksforthewin · 10/04/2020 18:15

An infinite number of votes for Mrs Brown’s Boys

The worst thing I’ve ever seen on television. Stumbled upon it and could NOT believe it had been commissioned by the BBC for National, prime time TV.

The Royle Family was horrendous. No one did anything, just sitting on their arses watching the box. Utterly baffling to me.

AlrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 10/04/2020 18:22

Did you watch ‘the queen of Sheba’
starks ?

I thought it was a beautiful episode.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 10/04/2020 18:26

Men Behaving Badly - awful!
Mrs Brown's Boys
Red Dwarf - not funny

Loved Mind Your Language & It Ain't Half Hot Mum.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 10/04/2020 18:31

I read the books Mrs Browns Boys was based on years ago and really enjoyed them. I don't know how the author of those books could produce such dross.

oohnicevase · 10/04/2020 18:33

I don't like any sit coms .. is it normal to like them? I just don't find any of them funny .. 🤔

Clawdy · 10/04/2020 18:34

The first ever series of Last Of The Summer Wine was lovely, gentle and funny with some poignant moments when the characters talked about the war. Then it just went on, and on, and on.....series after series, and became silly and unfunny. Lots of sitcoms play themselves out like that, not knowing when to stop.

Mysterian · 10/04/2020 18:34

Heil Honey I'm Home. A 50s American style sitcom made in Britain in the 90s. It stars Adolf Hitler as himself and Eva Braun living in a flat next door to a Jewish couple.

HennyPenny4 · 10/04/2020 18:40

I liked Miranda once I got used to it - very hard as a not attractive woman to make a successful slapstick type comedy series.

Ceebeegee · 10/04/2020 18:43

Surprised no-one has said Two Pints Of Larger And A Packet of Crisps.

I quite liked series 1 to 6. But after that, it goes downhill very quickly

NowWashYourHandsPlease · 10/04/2020 18:49

Mr Bean makes me cringe
Benidorm
On the Buses
Gavin and Stacey
Phoenix Nights

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 10/04/2020 18:49

I watched an awful one the other day on itv3. Can't remember what it was called, it had Molly sugden in it and her son (who was adopted) and his wife lived with her. It was shite. And it can't be that it hasn't aged well, I love a bit of George and Mildred. Also agree with others, Miranda is crap and so is not going out. That man is NOT a comedian.

Shhhhh223 · 10/04/2020 18:56

Miranda and Mrs browns boys

Carpathian2 · 10/04/2020 18:57

Steptoe and son : scared me when I was young and didn't get any better with age

Fawlty Towers: really irritating

Miranda: how did she get so famous? She reminds me of the head girl at my grammar school in the '70's!

Best sitcom of all time ( in my opinion) porridge! Never get tired of it.
