Worst British Sitcoms of all time!

In your opinion what is the worst British sitcom of all time.

My definition of Sitcom, is a comedy that prime purpose is to be “funny”. For Example shows such as Being Human, Fleabag, my mad fat dairy, Brasic and Jonathan Creek don’t count as whilst they contain humour they are not what most would consider a sitcom as they contain to much of a serious undertone. (Not saying these are bad shows, I just see them refer to as sitcoms a lot when they technically are not)

Green green grass. Think it was called that. It had Boyce and Marlene from only fools and horses in.

DustyMaiden · 10/04/2020 18:58

George and Mildred
Some mothers do ave em

lanbro · 10/04/2020 19:03

Something with Father Dougal being a secret superhero dad...just awful

I got as far as page 2 and didn't see 2 Pints of lager. The absolute worst.

Iamthewombat · 10/04/2020 19:24

it had Molly sugden in it and her son (who was adopted) and his wife lived with her. It was shite.

That was ‘That’s My Boy!’ and yes, it was shite. The son had been adopted by upper middle class people and found his real mother, Mollie Sugden. Sugden was in full “Ee bah gum I call a spade a spade and I like a pint of stout and some winkles” mode.

I am so glad that @IDefinitelyHaveFriends mentioned Babes In The Wood, which was about as funny as a burning orphanage. It was an attempt to squeeze comedy out ‘ladettes’, five years too late, and rival Men Behaving Badly (also crap). It was heavily advertised so I watched it to see if it was as bad as it sounded. It was worse. It was three girls (‘babes’) sharing a flat in St John’s Wood (the wood).

Denise Van Outen was terrible in it. Terrible. They also had a ditsy clueless one and another one. It was entirely implausible. None of them had proper jobs so how they could afford to share a flat on a posh area of west London was a mystery. The laughter track sounded desperate, as if the producers had said, “laugh NOW or your puppy gets it”.

Unbelievably, it ran for more than one series.

LaneBoy · 10/04/2020 20:05

Oh yes @lanbro “my hero” was it - I think I enjoyed it a bit as a child but looking back, ugh rubbish. I think it had the dad from Outnumbered on it too

JemimaTab · 10/04/2020 20:27

Agree about Babes in the Wood - terrible, and no way they could have afforded to rent an expensive mansion flat in St John’s Wood. They obviously wanted to use the title, and so SJW got shoehorned in as the location.

Has anyone else seen Coming of Age? A really dreadful BBC3 sitcom from about 10 years ago, about various students at some kind of college. It was terrible - really puerile, quite sleazy and the casting was terrible. I was sort of fascinated by just how bad it was.

Brahumbug · 10/04/2020 20:29

Secret Army was not about the French resistance it was set in occupied Belgium.

1066vegan · 10/04/2020 20:33

I thought Allo Allo was very unfunny but loved Secret Army.

wowfudge · 10/04/2020 20:35

My bad - it was about the Belgian resistance.

Hippofrog · 10/04/2020 20:37

Can I say the Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie was the very best sitcom ever, I’ve dusted my old dvds off and I still adore it 🤣

Violetparis · 10/04/2020 20:38

Absolutely Fabulous, just annoying.

ScarfLadysBag · 10/04/2020 20:59

On the Buses
Mrs Brown's Boys

I actually really liked Miranda!

Phoebesgift · 10/04/2020 21:01

Showing my age. A really dire sitcome called "Sink or swim".
I think it was about a young man who moves from The North to London.
Anyone remember this one?

TellerTuesday4EVA · 10/04/2020 21:08

Miranda
Mrs Browns Boys

Both totally utterly shite

NowWashYourHandsPlease · 10/04/2020 21:11

Unpopular opinion, but Bottom was awful

Viviennemary · 10/04/2020 21:13

I hated the Royales. And also another dreadful old one called Bread. Don't suppose anybody remembers it. Not keen on the Vicar if Dibley either.

Pickles89 · 10/04/2020 21:16

A lot of these I've never heard of (and I do love sitcoms!) but out of those I recognise I never 'got' Only Fools or Ab Fab. I'm also allergic to Mrs Brown's Boys but that's not technically British.

Pertella · 10/04/2020 21:22

Not a fan of faulty towers or gavin and stacey.

Tartyflette · 10/04/2020 21:26

thesunin Ah yes, Count Arthur Strong, the man with too many vowels in his title. Beyond dire.
Eoin I quite liked the toon in Men of the World -- Avoiding the Cracks in the Pavement? And the young John Simm was very watchable.

NowWashYourHandsPlease · 10/04/2020 21:29

And also another dreadful old one called Bread. Don't suppose anybody remembers it

I think a lot of people, especially my age, would remember Bread. It was huge at the time

tiredvommachine · 10/04/2020 21:33

Loved Phoenix nights, Black books is a masterpiece.
Remember vaguely something called Dear John and something that was set in a care home and was very funny!

Notredamn · 10/04/2020 21:34

Some sitcoms I think are shit but I think 'I can see how some people might like this' whereas Mrs Brown's boys is puzzling. It's quite simply a bag of bollocks.

tiredvommachine · 10/04/2020 21:35

Waiting for God, just googled it. Maybe should have done that before posting Grin

TooGood2BeTrue · 10/04/2020 21:37

Mrs. Brown's Boys
On the Buses
Miranda
Allo allo
