But I have subscribed, and this was my message

Done @JustineMumsnet

Delighted to help - I reckon I get a fiver a month’s entertainment from Mumsnet, and have had it for free for all these years.

I also work in an industry funded by ad revenues - let’s hope we all make it through this.

It wasn't "closed down". It reached an (arbitrary) 1,000 message limit and that was that.

Ironically a "feature" that supports some posters views that MN is partying like it's 1999.

Bottomplasters · 10/04/2020 12:38

Worth every penny

CormoranStrike · 10/04/2020 12:41

@TodaysNameChange thank you, I just got a ‘this thread is closed’ message.

Either way, happy to pay.

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 13:06

@cormorantstrike What exactly are you paying for?

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/04/2020 13:08

An edit button and no ads.

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 13:11

MN has said less ads, not no adds. No ads can be had for free with a free adblocker. An edit button is useful, but not really worth £5 a month I think. But obviously up to you.

CormoranStrike · 10/04/2020 13:13

It is not the what for me, but the why.

I am paying to help preserve the long term future if a site I like very much indeed. The ad revenue crisis is putting so much of the industry at risk.

I would like MN to service, and it is worth a fiver a month to me for this to happen.

If I happen to get and ad light service on top, or any other benefits, that’s a bonus.

OP posts:
CormoranStrike · 10/04/2020 13:14

*survive not service. I would really love an edit button!

MintyMabel · 10/04/2020 14:08

To ask people for money, the service must be decent. There is too much MN aren't doing, and the moderation is patchy at best.

Perhaps Justine might consider taking in some ironing, or matched betting.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 10/04/2020 14:23

I wonder if being so public about their financial woes may be a spectacular own goal
Can't imagine investors, advertisers etc will want to sink money into a business in such dire financial straits Hmm

Eggcited · 10/04/2020 14:31

Obviously it's your choice. But I think it's very naive to hand over personal and financial information to a site which has had a very dodgy past when it comes to data breaches.

TodaysNameChange · 10/04/2020 14:34

I think it reveals a massive failure of imagination at the very least. Coupled with a slightly patronising view of Mumsnet members. It certainly feels a bit grabby.

mummabubs · 10/04/2020 14:47

I switched from an iPhone to a Huawei a few months ago and the android app is so buggy it's ridiculous. You literally can't post a new thread through it so I have to log on via safari or go on my laptop. Formatting issues, crashes etc and those issues have never been fixed despite apparently being first reported years ago so I'm not in favour of paying for "extras" when the basics don't even work on android devices!

Eggcited · 11/04/2020 07:49

mummabubs

I had no idea the App was so bad. Shock

Look on Companies House. It is very enlightening.

Witchend · 11/04/2020 08:08

I'd pay for extra if it meant that obvious trolls were removed quicker, begging threads were stopped immediately and not just told "don't give more than you can afford" and anything that's clearly a party political broadcast thinly disguised as puzzlement is removed.

Unfortunately at present, once talking about Covid-19 has finished, it looks like there won't be much left other than moaning about fb and fireworks.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 11/04/2020 08:08

An edit button. So posters talking shit can go back and change what they said?

If so, that's not going to end well. Queue more bun fights and goady fuckers.

mummabubs · 11/04/2020 08:09

It really is Eggcited! I've had such a positive experience of my first non- apple phone in about 10 years but the only bugbear I have is the android app for mumsnet 😂 (A beautifully first world problem but annoying none the less!) Possibly the worst is that there is no watch option when you view a thread, only hide- so the amount of times I've wanted to follow a thread and accidentally permanently hidden it instead is high! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I emailed mumsnet about the problems and the reply I got said they knew about the issues but had no way of fixing them.

mummabubs · 11/04/2020 08:09

Case in point- that reply was in 3 paragraphs when I typed it!

notsureneversure · 11/04/2020 08:11

I just don’t trust them with my financial (or other) details. Who’s to say another rogue intern won’t doxx me on Twitter if they don’t like my views on Coronavirus or something?

Quarantino · 11/04/2020 08:13

mumma can't you just use an Android browser? I prefer doing that to adding apps. The mobile site is fine, I've found.

Eggcited · 11/04/2020 08:14

they knew about the issues but had no way of fixing them.

Wow that's appalling. They can't fix issues so have given up, yet want people to pay £5 a month for their I can't do it attitude. Confused

Eggcited · 11/04/2020 08:15

begging threads were stopped immediately and not just told "don't give more than you can afford"

But if they didn't allow them, then they wouldn't have been able to post their own begging thread.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 11/04/2020 08:18

Yet here you are, happily using it.

TodaysNameChange · 11/04/2020 08:28

It's fascinating how many MN posters clearly only ever use MN ... one reason why MNHQ want to hang onto them - clearly a unique userbase.
