But I have subscribed, and this was my message

Done @JustineMumsnet

Delighted to help - I reckon I get a fiver a month’s entertainment from Mumsnet, and have had it for free for all these years.

I also work in an industry funded by ad revenues - let’s hope we all make it through this.

No worries vicbar I don't believe much other than the price has actually been confirmed. Premium so far seems to be throw money into a hole and maybe there will be something from it in a few months or so.

Batshittery · 11/04/2020 18:12

The only posters who can use the quote function are MNHQ. That is not who the term 'MN royalty' was aimed at.

MamaMeeAh · 11/04/2020 18:15

I know that 🙄. It was sarcastic. Sorry didn’t realise I needed to signpost it.

Batshittery · 11/04/2020 18:23

Obviously you should have Grin

The moderation has become ineffectual.. long standing posters are being driven away by the toxic people who pounce on them for everything and anything.

It's like a misguided club where people aren't told what they're doing is wrong, mean, spiteful, because it's self expression and they'll regulate themselves. So anarchy reigns and they tear each other apart, instead of a club where nastiness isn't tolerated and people show their good side and support each other.

Support is in the minority now, it's very sad to see it go downhill and be afraid to say anything for fear of a pile in

daisychain01 · 12/04/2020 08:19

Some of the people on the new site have admitted to starting fake threads.

I disagree, this isn't true. Fake threads? Who's admitted that?

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 08:34

Some of the people on the new site have admitted to starting fake threads.

I doubt that's exclusive to the new site. I'm sure plenty of fake threads have been made on here.

MamaMeeAh · 12/04/2020 08:37

Admitting on the new site to starting fake threads on Mn.

And then they complain mn is full of rubbish 🤦‍♀️

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 08:42

Admitting on the new site to starting fake threads on Mn.

Ah right, I misunderstood the post and thought they had made fake threads on the new site.

Even so I don't believe half the posts that are written on here. I'm sure for some there is a grain of truth, but others are just massively over the top and I think it wise to question their validity.

MamaMeeAh · 12/04/2020 08:47

I find that depressing. That people would get some kind of kick out of misleading other people for their own enjoyment. Tbh that would put me off joining another site if that’s the kind of people attracted to it. It also puts me off Mn if that’s what people are doing.

notimagain · 12/04/2020 08:51

Re: the edit button debate and the problem with people going back to edit something that has already been replied to.

There are many (free) forums out in the wild using quite basic forum software that allow an individual to edit a post for only as long as it remains the last post on the thread.

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 08:52

MamaMeeAh

I don't think you can judge an entire site from a few rogue posters, but equally a bit of skepticism is always a good thing, especially when it comes to what is posted online.

bruffin · 12/04/2020 08:53

A lot of MN is fake threads! Most of the long running sagas are fake, the begging ones, the fetish trolls

creativecringe · 12/04/2020 08:57

I dont get peoples worry. You can @ somebody who is within the the thread. I have never used this *. People have been begging twitter to have the same edit after posting. They have disagreed on the basis of reposting. Editing works for facebook because you can see the previous post if you wanted to. It is never taken away.

My favourite is whatsup with the time it gives you to delete. After that you can't.

I would hate for people posting horrible things to expect they can just delete or edit according to how the wind is blow.

meonekton · 12/04/2020 08:59

A lot of people who has issues with whatever MN does has their own agenda imo. For me, it's just not a big deal if they have something extra for people who choose to pay.
For many years, MN has been a place of support for me, and I think it's true for many who see MN as the place to seek advice, rather than just an entertainment.

MamaMeeAh · 12/04/2020 09:04

I don’t really look at a lot of threads other than stuff on current affairs so I guess I haven’t been exposed to much fakery. I still think it’s tragic that people spend their time making that sort of stuff up. I just want to spend time with like minded people I guess and fantasists I would avoid in RL too 🤣

The quote function is a massive step up. It’s so clunky on Mn. I think an edit function is a huge improvement too. I’ve not seen it abused elsewhere. Mn seem reluctant to even trial things. I can see why it’s not used on Twitter because of the RT function. A chat room though? Yes.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/04/2020 09:06

I'd wager 60%of MN is fake threads these days!

bruffin · 12/04/2020 09:09

If there was a quote function does the quote change if its edited?

MamaMeeAh · 12/04/2020 09:11

Do MN ever seek input from their users ? Feels like there are a lot of issues that are causing a lot of negativity about the site and it’s like they are oblivious (or maybe don’t care). Perhaps if they have done this then they wouldn’t have “banged” the premium function out like they did.

MamaMeeAh · 12/04/2020 09:12

If there was a quote function does the quote change if its edited?

No

Eggcited · 12/04/2020 09:13

If there was a quote function does the quote change if its edited?

It doesn't on any of the other forums I use. If I quoted your post it would stay like that in the post I quoted you in, even if you later changed it to fix a typing error or some other reason.

I can't say if it would on MN, as well the feature doesn't actually exist here.

well it does, but not for us normal posters

WouldShouldCould · 12/04/2020 09:18

It annoys me that it is £4.99, £49.99 a year, employing old fashioned techniques which say that £50 sounds like a lot but take off a penny and they wow its great value. Do they think we are stupid?
Like others I don't trust MN with my personal data let alone my financial.

meonekton · 12/04/2020 09:34

Many people complaining MN charging for premium are paying premium for other place for extra feature. So what's different? And the .99 trick is used by many, the educational sites or fun site I use regularly for dc charge like £69.99/£2.99 or whatever.

PleaseStopCrying · 12/04/2020 09:43

I don't know any other forum where you pay for less ads and common features such as an edit button or the ability to properly quote posters.

I use forums which allow you to pay to use and see no ads and be the first to do product testing etc but the things MNHQ are saying may, note may not definitely, come later if you pay for premium are all common place and free on any forum I've ever used.
