How are you disinfecting groceries?

Can see that it’s possible to wipe down bottles/jars but how do you clean a punnet of fruit or a loaf of bread?

I don't. The risk is tiny

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/03/2021 11:31

Not at all, just wash my hands after putting it away, but I'm out and about for work etc most days anyway.

Singlenotsingle · 06/03/2021 11:35

I don't. Silly idea. People are making their hands sore by using too much hand sanitizer, and bleach. I've gone a whole year without getting covid, so must be doing something right.

rosie1959 · 06/03/2021 11:35

Put shopping away wash hands job done

bonfireheart · 06/03/2021 11:36

I take the bread out of the packet and spray with domestos.

NoseOfJericho · 06/03/2021 11:37

I unpack them using a litter picker stick and put them in the shed at the top of the garden for a week, then I spray them with heavy duty bleach and leave them for another week.
Then I throw them away. But I ensure I don't touch them at any time.

Guys. This thread is from last March.

We quarantine food shopping in bags (or separate shelf in the fridge) for 24h or so. No idea if it makes my difference but it's quick and simple. There's no way I'd put bleach anywhere near my food.

Dammit
AlfonsoTheTerrible · 06/03/2021 11:44

I put them in an autoclave. And then I microwave them.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 06/03/2021 11:45

@SomethingOnce

Blowtorch. Then sheep dip.
I wish I had thought of that. Sounds like less work than what I currently do.

@Cherryberry14 why have you resurrected a thread from 1 year ago?!

You should have changed the header to 'Are you' instead of 'How'. Not all of us are neurotic OP.

I am not. Just came back from shopping, put bags in the kitchen, washed hands. Put groceries away, washed hands again.

When we get post or deliveries I wash hands after opening.

I wash hands often enough when I prepare food so even if the package wasn’t disinfected I would have washed hands after handling it.

There is not a lot of food I eat straight after buying or it is food which I can’t disinfect like bread, cake, croissants.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/03/2021 11:55

@Cherryberry14

Well I get my groceries delivered by HODXpress and they leave the boxes at the back door and I always leave it there for a while, because of the effect of sun heat on the virus. Besides that I don’t do anything special, I just wash my hand thoroughly after everything is unpacked.
Is this an advert?

There are enough Covid threads without resurrecting ones a year old!!

DinosaurDiana · 06/03/2021 11:57

I’m not and never have.

I read page 1 before I realised, and was bewildered by why someone was asking this question a year after people started disinfecting groceries. Surely you aren't going to start that now after a year of not doing so? Personally, I never disinfected my shopping and have so far lived to tell the tale.
FoonySpucker · 06/03/2021 12:05

I leave mine for about a year.
Just like this thread.

Lilyargin · 06/03/2021 12:08

I stick everything in the washing machine on the quick cycle. Then I douse it all in acid.

Dagnabit · 06/03/2021 12:11

I put mine on a delicate wash then dry them flat....

NoseinBook3 · 06/03/2021 12:11

I don’t disinfect anything

Dagnabit · 06/03/2021 12:12

Oh.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 06/03/2021 12:12

DH, DC's, the car, the shopping, whole lot goes in the gigantic industrial autoclave on gas mark 4 for 80 minutes.
