Hello fellow plane spotters!

So I thought Trump had stopped flights to and from Europe but there still seem to be quite a few?

Second point.... anyone know why BA Airbus 319 GEUPD flew Heathrow to Bournemouth yesterday?

There's a flight up near Bristol - WKT33 - which is doing surveying at the moment. If you search on Twitter for it's registration it'll tell you more about it.

I’ve looked at flightradar for a good few years now. I like to spot the Flying Doctors in the Australian outback 😊

Wallywobbles · 11/04/2020 22:34

Thé US is still full of flights.

Theres an air ambulance just come from a rig off Aberdeen. Just seen it on Freedar .

Oldraver · 13/04/2020 10:27

Im new to Freedar (thanks who posted about it)

I can now see on screen as well in the air the RAF planes circling

bettybattenburg · 13/04/2020 10:57

The RAF are over Cardiff, they might come over here again if they swing a bit north east. We heard them but not saw them the other day. The coastguard is up near Portsmouth too.

bettybattenburg · 13/04/2020 10:58

The US Navy have got a plane over France.

Has anyone noticed a higher than usual proportion of flights with no destination listed? Sometimes it's easy to figure out (ie a Turkish Airlines flight that just took off from London is probably going to Turkey) but I didn't notice this before covid, is it something to do with that?

This question is coming up a lot:

The aircraft doesn't transmit it's route to ATC, that's in the Flight plan that ATC get by another means.

Flightradar "sees" a Flight number/callsign, looks in it's database and sees if it can find a match that number/callsign with previous flights and uses that data to give you the destination..if it can't match the flight to something in the database it shows N/A.

So basically yes, it's down to Covo and the fact you've got a lot of flights operating off schedule, and/or using unusual flight numbers..there's more detail in Flightradar's FAQs..

francienolan · 13/04/2020 17:01

Fascinating! Thanks!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/04/2020 12:46

The Antonov An-225 Myria is above Turkey right NOW.

notimagain · 20/04/2020 15:12

It went into Paris-Vatry yesterday delivering medical supplies...

I was almost jealous yesterday when I spotted gliders over Belgium and Germany. The gliding clubs here are all shutdown so soaring is out of the question Sad

Pleasenomoreglitter · 20/04/2020 15:52

Ooh, look what I just found over France!

Good spot. Have a look over Belgium and Northern Germany, some exercises going on over there with Falcons.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 22/04/2020 21:12

This is a really dense question but a Widerøe Embraer plane took of Friday Aberdeen - Gran Canaria.

Now I know I might be coming across as thick but what’s all that about? I looked up the details of the plane itself and it’s a passenger plane of approx 100 capacity.

Why would a maximum of 100 people be going from Aberdeen to Gran Canaria on a Wednesday slap bang in the middle of a global pandemic and when Spain is issuing the hardest and most restrictive social distancing measures?

Asking for a friend Grin

notimagain · 23/04/2020 07:44

Seeing the aircraft's entire itinerary might give a clue.

Wideroe are a Norwegian outfit, Norway+Aberdeen often means an oil connection..but Gran Canaria?

Repatriation flight staging via Aberdeen?

Dunno TBH.

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/04/2020 07:51

There’s actually quite a lot of oil rig business which takes place from the Canary Islands so as the plane was leaving from Aberdeen I’d say it was oil rig stuff. Either flying workers, or parts out.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 23/04/2020 08:05

It’s an indication of how completely void of excitement my life is right now that I need to know.

The oil connection is v v plausible BUT I was thinking “omg what if there’s some secret holiday club who are away to GC and having a whale of a time laughing at us mugs stuck and bored in lockdown”?

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 23/04/2020 08:05

Ps your username is outstanding @JacobReesMogadishu

Ah, everyday is a school day - many thanks...

Hi all, haven't been on this thread for months as I've not been onFR24 much due to lack of planes in the air! However I dipped in yesterday and loved that the lack of airplanes mean you can see so many more helicopters (you probably could before but they just seem easier to spot now)
One quick question - I hadn't noticed before but some of my planes are blue rather than yellow. Can anyone tell me why?

A thread for plane spotters and Flightradar24 fans!
YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/04/2020 09:10

I think the blue ones are tracked by satellite.

AmIAStone · 23/04/2020 09:15

I think I need to join you as my new hobby! No planes in the sky here and we run out when we here the military planes flying over like something out of 28days later.

What’s the free radar app so I make sure I get the right one?

Thunderpunt · 23/04/2020 09:55

@AmIAStone best one for free imo is Flightradar24 app or you can view it in a browser I think.
