What are you going to do about your hair?

Not go to the hairdresser obviously. I mean how are you going to deal with your hair at home in the long term? It could be months before hairdressers can open again.

Mine is cut and coloured fairly regularly and it's quite a 'style' that can't be dealt with by a trim at home by DH or something. Roots starting to come through, have never home dyed so no idea where to start!

It's not the end of the world obviously but I'm NHS and going to work everyday so I need some sort of plan. I was very ill last year and couldn't leave the house for nearly 3 months and my hair was rancid which just amplified my general feeling of misery so I'm keen not to feel like that again if I can help it!

I’m going to attempt a fringe trim every now and again. It’s only really dh seeing me so it doesn’t matter too much. His hair is going to look much worse!

iwanttoshakesomeppl · 22/03/2020 07:43

Could you put it up or pin it back until the hairdressers will be back to normal? Box hair dye is really easy to do just follow the instructions. My roots are really bad at the moment and I used to dye my hair years ago so I'll be back to being a bottle blond lol.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 22/03/2020 07:43

I dont know- and I must be very shallow because this is a concern of mine!

Thankfully I had mine coloured 2 weeks back so the colour will at a push last another 10 weeks, and as I won’t be going anywhere it doesn’t really matter anyway!

I’m trying to grow it a bit anyway at the moment so that won’t be too much of an issue for me

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 22/03/2020 07:46

I've bought box hair dye for the first time in years ! My grey roots are no good for my morale . I will have to tie it up a lot because my ends will start getting frizzy ....I might learn to plait it properly for once !

monkeytennis97 · 22/03/2020 07:47

Have always dyed my hair with a box dye. Not had hairdressers appointment for two years or so anyway so... nothing changed on that front

Sirzy · 22/03/2020 07:48

Do you have a relationship with your hairdresser where you could message them to ask what the best to do to keep on top of it will be?

elQuintoConyo · 22/03/2020 07:50

Hats. Plenty of hats. Box dye, tying it up, hats.

Everyone will be in the same boat Flowers

Jessicabrassica · 22/03/2020 07:50

With my children not in school they might not bring me nits so frequently so I may not have to comb so frequently so my hair may not fall out so much. I'm hoping when this is over to have enough hair to be worth doing something with!

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/03/2020 07:52

I had already started to grow out the highlights and go naturally grey. So I'm just going to continue.

universalengine · 22/03/2020 07:54

I'll def message my hairdresser and ask her advice. My hair is pretty short and very layered / thinned / styled so it will take a fair while before any section is long enough to pin up etc. It's not the end of the world, I'll be fine I suppose. Maybe I'll get DH to do some online learning and get the kitchen scissors out!

I'm leaving mine strictly alone, spent the last year growing it anyway so it's been cut to allow for neglect, hopefully. Have hidden the hair scissors and clippers, too, because the teenager has already cut herself a fringe three days in and her father's head might explode if she has another go.

pitlochrypat · 22/03/2020 07:55

Same as usual, wash it and let it grow. Hair dressing appointments are now an unnecessary luxury.

EL8888 · 22/03/2020 07:55

I bought a box dye and fiancé is going to do it. It’s not a dramatic colour change to what my hairdresser does but l need to cover up the grey

FrenchFancie · 22/03/2020 07:55

God knows. Look dreadful probably.

DH is going to suffer more though - he has massive big hair and will look like a mad scientist on acid in a few months time. This will not be helped by any attempt on my part to cut his hair

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/03/2020 07:58

My fringe 😱. What about my fringe?

Could be interesting.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 22/03/2020 08:00

My next appointment is booked for May, and I will have to trim my fringe in the meantime. No idea what things will be like in May, but I'm keeping it on the calendar for now. I like the routine of going to see my hairdresser, but obviously best for everyone to limit contact.

wowfudge · 22/03/2020 08:00

I had mine cut last weekend. I've offered to cut DP's for him. He's not enamoured of the idea though I have cut hair before when Zi lived abroad as a student and my mates were too chicken to go the hairdresser's. Bizarrely having their hair cut by a novice was a better bet than a trained hairdresser they were worried they might not be able to communicate with effectively!

Tennistime · 22/03/2020 08:02

My hair is professionally coloured and has highlights (naturally grey).

I’m giving box dye a go, and cutting my fringe.

Mner2000 · 22/03/2020 08:03

I will tie mine up I guess, which happens quite a lot anyway as we are outside a lot and I hate how knotty it gets in the wind.

I am more worried about DS’s hair. It gets very thick after a few weeks... and he gets anxious if it’s not all perfectly in line (he was pulling it out!). Might have to invest in some clippers...

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 22/03/2020 08:04

Mine is long so not too worried but my boys I’m concerned will look hilarious!

DeadBod · 22/03/2020 08:04

Thank God I have a one length Bob with no fringe. I'm going to resist the straighteners in order to prevent my usual dry ends and just tie it back for work.

Nospringchickendipper · 22/03/2020 08:05

I really tempted to buzz cut my with DH hair razors or ask him to do it.
If I'm isolating for a few weeks by the time it grow I might be able to go to the hairdresser. It's short anyway and I stopping dying it a year ago.
Do you think I would regret it Smile

dementedma · 22/03/2020 08:05

None of the box dye i use in the supermarket and no VEET either. FFS. Are people hoarding this stuff now?

icebearforpresident · 22/03/2020 08:05

No idea but regretting my A-symmetric short bob with undercut right now. My husband can do the undercut for me but when the rest of it gets too long it’s awful and I could do with a trim already. My hairdresser is closing at the end of the week and prioritising her vulnerable clients until then. Technically I’m vulnerable due to my type 1 diabetes but feel like others will benefit more.
