What are you going to do about your hair?

Not go to the hairdresser obviously. I mean how are you going to deal with your hair at home in the long term? It could be months before hairdressers can open again.

Mine is cut and coloured fairly regularly and it's quite a 'style' that can't be dealt with by a trim at home by DH or something. Roots starting to come through, have never home dyed so no idea where to start!

It's not the end of the world obviously but I'm NHS and going to work everyday so I need some sort of plan. I was very ill last year and couldn't leave the house for nearly 3 months and my hair was rancid which just amplified my general feeling of misery so I'm keen not to feel like that again if I can help it!

Oh and my DH has a buzz cut and does his own anyway with clippers.

ironicname · 22/03/2020 09:23

@MrsMoastyToasty I've been doing the same and I'm so glad that I don't have to worry about my hair through all of this.

Greendin · 22/03/2020 09:23

As I'm not going out anywhere or seeing anybody I guess I'll just go grey until this is over. I'm more worried about my son's hair, don't know what to do when it starts going in his eyes, last time I tried a home haircut it was awful, it looked like I'd stuck a pudding bowl on his head!

I don't have a fringe and I was trying to grow out an short cut. Also don't dye it so the white comes in on its own! So I will just be lazy. Probably have to find some hairpins or something in a few weeks. DH is going to look like a mushroom cloud though.

rainbow1982 · 22/03/2020 09:24

Mine is a full head of highlights and already has roots and also needs a cut! 😫🙄 I'm 29 weeks pregnant too so I'm just going to rock being a chubby, rooty rapunzel-like creature in pyjamas 😂🤣

SnakePlant · 22/03/2020 09:26

I had an appointment for this Monday. Hairdressers are currently still open. When I phoned to cancel they said they were still busy.

I have the slowest growing, thinnest, finest hair possible. It’s like baby hair. I wanted to get it into a blunt bob which means growing the layers down. I will be doing this as well as growing out my fringe. It’s going to look dreadful. I live alone and am in the vulnerable category so won’t be scaring anyone in the process at least.

Toomanycats99 · 22/03/2020 09:26

Someone on my local fb page said that she understood nail bars closing but hairdressers were an essential service and why wouldn't they be open....!

OhNoNoNoNotThatOne · 22/03/2020 09:29

I'm in the process of growing mine back. I lost loads about 4 months after giving birth, so went rogue and had my hairdresser shave it off... Its now about 3 inches long, so and just going to leave it alone.

woodhill · 22/03/2020 09:30

Probably just pin back fringe.

I have got some colouring products at the ready but usually have it professionally done but then thought it could be a time to see what my natural hair colour looked like as I won't be going out for a while.

Stick a hat, scarf or hairband to disguise roots

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/03/2020 09:33

I'm more concerned about my ds hair. He has autism and we have only recently found a barber that understands him and who he will sit still for. It's bad enough trying to get him to even wash it in the bath. You would think that we were murdering him!

augustusglupe · 22/03/2020 09:34

I had my colour and good cut a week ago and I usually go every 8 weeks. My next appointment is booked for May.
My hairdresser closed yesterday. If they’ve reopened by my next appointment and if it’s deemed safe by then, I’ll go, but chances are it’ll be June at least before I get my hair done again.
I’ll probably just put up with it til then. Colour wise I’ll have grey roots but I’m looking on it as giving my hair a rest from the chemicals and I’ll appreciate it all the more when I do eventually get it done.

CrotchetyQuaver · 22/03/2020 09:34

I suppose this is the time to be thankful I took the plunge a while back and it's grey not coloured anymore.

Hopefully one of my DD can trim the bottom as and when. It's medium short and layered at the moment, I've been wondering about growing it longer to a bob, there's a good chance that's where it's heading for now...

feelingverylazytoday · 22/03/2020 09:34

Carry on cutting and dying it myself, like I have done for years.
There are loads of videos on youtube, some of them are stunning.

ShowerOfShite · 22/03/2020 09:37

I'm thinking about shaving mine off and letting the grey grow through.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/03/2020 09:37

I cut my own anyways and only really boxdye it once every 6m or so. So I'm hopeful that I'll still look relatively like me when this is over.

Ds and dh on the other hand are going to look like cavemen. They have a haircut every 4 weeks.

sparklefarts · 22/03/2020 09:39

If you don't usually box dye, I recommend the John Frieda mousse one. Honestly it is so easy and there is so much of it it's impossible to miss any bits. I don't rate the colour choice as much as others, but is definitely the most fool proof one out there.

The garnier nutriesse are my actual favourite, in terms of colour and how soft my hair is afterwards (honestly it's lovely) but I have snubbed these recently for the ease of the John Frieda ones.

Radarred · 22/03/2020 09:39

I started growing my colour out a year ago. Only have some coloured ends left which will be cut out next time. My hair will get too thick and I probably won't do a great job of cutting my fringe. Not looking forward to cutting ds' hair.

LolaSmiles · 22/03/2020 10:09

sparklefarts
Thank you. Smile
Do the John Freida ones come out multi tonal?
The last time I did a box dye all over it looked flat, but this was years ago because I've had foils and balayage done ever since.

dottiedodah · 22/03/2020 10:14

Well I havent been near a hairdresser for years.Hope I look presentable, My niece asked me which hairdressers I went to so that was a compliment anyway. There are hair tutorials online ATM ,and I use a well known hair colour as well .Top tips really sharp scissors ,Guarded with your life and hidden in a secret place (to not be "borrowed" under any circumstances"!)

RedElephants · 22/03/2020 10:35

CrotchetyQuaver
I took the plunge this time last year to go back to my natural hair colour,
I went from very blonde to a medium brown in a couple of appointments.
I was due to see my Hairdresser next week for a trim, I have layers..
but hey ho.
I do cut my own fringe, it grows so quickly.
I have used clippers on Dh on a no3, for years now easy when you get used to it.
I'll have to look on YouTube I guess, for my 18 & 21 yr old boysGrin

pitlochrypat · 22/03/2020 10:38

So if it needs an emergency cut and you're able to get out

Dear god get a life, there is no such thing as an emergency cut Biscuit

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/03/2020 10:41

I'll be leaving mine. It's very fine so it doesn't grow very quickly. The colour will fade but it doesn't matter.

I'll probably end up shaving DS's off! Grin

preponderings · 22/03/2020 10:45

DH and I cut DS's.
I cut DH's.
DD is still growing hers out from when she last cut it. I could trim hers.
DH is going to have to return the favour and cut mine!

WrongKindOfFace · 22/03/2020 10:51

I was actually googling how to cut your own hair yesterday. It already looks shit so I’ll just have to tie it back for a few months.

The best box dye I’ve found for colouring grey is L’Oréal Excellence but I have to leave the roots on for at least 10 mins more than it says.

I’ve also ordered some root cover powder to try and stretch out the colouring.

Goldilookingchains · 22/03/2020 10:52

I stocked up on box dyes about a month ago as my colour were going for 10p a box in superdrug, I'm more concerned about my nails one broke on friday and it's just sitting there looking at me all broken and depressed Grin
