Comforting TV shows

These are uncertain times. We are all likely to be at home a lot more than usual. So I'm after comforting TV shows to watch.

So far we've watched things like The Good Place, The Crown, The Split (not comforting as such but so well written). And now rewatching Death In Paradise (which is very not cool but also very comforting!). But I'd be very grateful for your top tips too.

No horror. Limited violence. And probably not hospital dramas at this point in time please!
TIA

Jonathan Creek?

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 15/03/2020 08:54

Detectorists- the most comforting programme ever.

missmouse101 · 15/03/2020 08:54

The detectorists! It's on iplayer and is really gentle and lovely! Definitely worth a watch.

Ha! I came on to say Detectorists too!
Perfect comfort viewing. Happy place.

Sittinonthefloor · 15/03/2020 08:57

We are watching d in p too. Just started the young offenders too, very funny and silly but very warm, it does have some heart string moments (I have blubber a bit) but they are from a place of love if that makes sense. It fitted my mood last night!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/03/2020 08:58

The Mentalist. There's something very, very lovely about the chemistry that show created between the main characters.

The Durrells is immensely warm and lovely with some great little moments of comedy.

Do you really want to know what I've been rewatching in these uncertain times, though? GBBO on Netflix 😂

Inmyownlittlecorner · 15/03/2020 08:59

Parks and Recreation (season 1 was a bit ropey, but stick with it!)
Life in Pieces
The Goldbergs
Modern Family
Doc Martin
Any Rick Stein type travelogue

Sittinonthefloor · 15/03/2020 09:00

Darling buds of may! Good idea! Also Jeeves & Wooster and All Creatures Great & Small - are they anywhere? I’m remembering all the lovely Sunday evening things from when I was small now. House ofElliot!
I wonder if we will see the schedules change a bit?

Quirrelsotherface · 15/03/2020 09:01

Friends. The one I always find comforting is The Upper Hand..an oldie but a goodie!

Bluewavescrashing · 15/03/2020 09:01

Great British bake off celeb special is great.

No more dystopia for me 😱

w00dlander · 15/03/2020 09:01

Strike
Suits
Pride and Prejudice!
Buffy

BikeRunSki · 15/03/2020 09:02

I also cane on to say The Detectorists...

Sittinonthefloor · 15/03/2020 09:02

OP- great idea for a thread - thank you!

Sittinonthefloor · 15/03/2020 09:03

Poirot

homemadecommunistrussia · 15/03/2020 09:05

Dinner Ladies, not sure where you can stream it, I have the DVD. So lovely.
I also like a bit of Austen on these occasions Emma with Romala Garai and Johnny Lee Miller is the best followed by Persuasion with Rupert Penry Jones.
As well as Detectorists, DIP, Johnathan Creek as has been mentioned.

mnahmnah · 15/03/2020 09:08

Gilmore girls. Virgin river. Hart of Dixie.

grafittiartist · 15/03/2020 09:09

I like Frazier and Cheers too. No concentration needed, but lots of laughs.

Lonelykettleshed · 15/03/2020 09:09

Midsomer Murders, Agatha Raisin, Great British Sewing Bee, Great Pottery Throw down, Miss Marple. Essentially craft related or cosy murder for me.

BursarsDriedFrogPills · 15/03/2020 09:15

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross

I have also been watching GBBO on Netflix as well. I find Mel and Sue deeply comforting. Unfortunately DH's tolerance of baking shows is minimal at the best of times so I've conceded that something with an actual story line is needed.

Sittinonthefloor · 15/03/2020 09:16

Was Agatha Raisin on television? Love the radio version.

CocoandClive · 15/03/2020 09:18

I used to find Heartbeat very soothing but not sure if you'd find it anywhere now
