Looking for a nice spa hotel in England

I was meant to be going abroad for my birthday but flights have been cancelled.
I’m in London so good train connections to most places.
Can anyone suggest somewhere nice for me to go and spend some time with my husband?

I love The Grove near Watford, fabulous spa, much nicer than Sopwell House which is a bit tired looking.

Monkey Island Estate w/ the Floating Spa
Coworth Park
Cliveden House
Chewton Glen

Check out secretscapes? I got an email about Alexander House and Utopia spa being available, except for no Saturdays....

I really like The Pig hotels. The one near Bath has 'the potting shed' for spa treatments and is lovely. The whole place is just a lovely relaxing place to hang out for a weekend. No pool etc though... Not sure if would be 'spa-y' enough for you, OP. Worth a look though.

Oooo. I’ve had a text from Ragdale with last minute offer for two nights. About £400 each but it includes all meals and a treatment each. So it actually doesn’t seem too bad considering how amazing it looks!

Ooh that sounds good!

stophuggingme · 11/03/2020 14:52

Seaham Hall is lovely

BeginningBridge · 11/03/2020 14:55

Beaverbrook Hotel just outside Leatherhead is amazing.

Do it! Ragdale is brilliant and so worth the money. I was unimpressed with Hoar Cross Hall

Toddlerteaplease · 11/03/2020 15:25

I've beer. To the sister spa to Hoar Cross. Eden hall, and it's lovely. But it's only a day spa. But I can imagine Hoar cross is just as good. The food is better at Eden than Ragdale but the facilities at Ragdale are amazing.

FinallyHere · 11/03/2020 15:30

My absolute favourite

Not so long ago it was a family house but now completely refurb'ed and lovely.

Eve · 11/03/2020 15:58

Hoar Cross is nice but very busy and caters to a lot of people every day.

Limewood - I go once a year and it is lovely , never busy & crowded. Spa is separate from Hotel and hotel is luxurious.

Chewton Glen - spa is small, hotel is lovely and food is good

Chareys manor - was a few years ago and hotel was disappointing ( needed an update which may have been done) but SPA was lovely, food is SPA is Thai, they also have a French Bistro.

motherofawhirlwind · 11/03/2020 16:11

Going back to Hoar Cross Hall soon and have been to Eden Day Spa 8+ times too. I love it and the food is excellent. We're paying £172.50 pppn for full board.

NotBabiesForLong · 11/03/2020 18:19

Rockcliffe, Rudding Park, Coniston, ye olde Bell, are all great.

Grantley Hall is a fantastic hotel!!!!!!

peachypetite · 11/03/2020 22:25

I’ve spent the evening reading all about Ragdale and what’s included - it looks absolutely incredible and think my mind is made up.

Stapleford Park Leic is a country house hotel very posh ...spa is tiny tiny pool.

Champneys is more like a health farm...healthy bland food no alcohol

My fave was Eden Hall bur u cant stay

peachypetite · 11/03/2020 22:35

Champneys have definitely gone downhill!

OP posts:
Overseasmom100 · 12/03/2020 16:18

Champney's Leicestershire well I always thought was a posh 5 star resort. We go there and they lost our booking, sat waiting in reception for over 25 mins. One friend they didnt have a dressing gown for.
Lunch was very poor - massive dining room and very, very small area with food....bland food at that! No seasoning on the table either or on offer. In fact worst Spa I have been to

peachypetite · 12/03/2020 21:17

Ugh. I’m really in two minds due to corona. Not sure a spa break is a good idea right now :( at this rate I’ll be celebrating at home with a tin of tuna.

KenAdams · 12/03/2020 23:50

Ragdale is our local one - everyone always goes there and loves it. I prefer Eden Hall. However I wouldn't do a spa at the moment

peachypetite · 14/03/2020 18:28

Thank you all. I have decided not to book anything. Ragdale will have to wait!

HeronLanyon · 14/03/2020 18:40

Not surprised op. I’ve just cancelled a much needed stay for exactly this reason. Had long chat with all of us going and we all agreed we didn’t really think being massaged etc right now was a good idea.

peachypetite · 14/03/2020 18:47

I am feeling a bit meh. I’ve not had a day off this year. I have so much annual leave to take but can’t do anything with it!

OP posts:
Onceuponatimethen · 14/03/2020 23:35

We’re also cancelling a spa stay - sad but can’t be avoided

Gotthetshirt23 · 15/03/2020 07:35

@peachypetite
Book the leave
Have self spa days
Read books
Decorate
Try new hobbies
Write letters
Write a book
De clutter
Garden
Loft sort out

That sort of thing ?
