Looking for a nice spa hotel in England

I was meant to be going abroad for my birthday but flights have been cancelled.
I’m in London so good train connections to most places.
Can anyone suggest somewhere nice for me to go and spend some time with my husband?

Coworth Park?

Pinkstars2501 · 10/03/2020 06:36

Boringdon Hall in Devon

Don’t do Dormy in cotswolds. The spa is tiny - over 60 guests at full occupancy plus potentially day guests and only about 6 loungers and another 6 upright seats. No other places to chill. Most guests looked quite put out when I went there with my SIL!

I went to sopwell last year and it was nice but far too many guests crammed in.

Another vote for Rockliffe Hall. It has an amazing spa

I didn't like the Titanic in Huddersfield but that's probably because hot bubbly water is a big part of spas for me and they only had one small hot tub when I went and you couldn't get near it because a group parked themselves in it.

Also the restaurant, which is open to non spa guests is bang in the middle of the spa so you had damp people in dressing gowns wafting around between tables of people eating dinner which was a bit weird.

The Center Parcs spas are very nice and also big so probably have space OP. The Yorkshire one has spa hotel type accommodation, and I expect the newest one in the south also does.

Rudding Park truly is amazing but it was full of look at me instagram types broadcasting to the world when I went there, which was annoying.

Otherwise there's either the Woodland Spa near Burnley which is great. Not sure of the logistics of a train from London or you could go to Liverpool for the museums, waterfront, restaurants, shopping and stay at the Titanic Hotel which has a nice spa and not connected to the Huddersfield titanic, but named after the shop, as per the exhibition in the maritime museum.

Thanks @barbara - just read some reviews of titanic huddersfield and they are not great.
Have found availability at Hoar cross hall and Cowley manor.

Lime Wood? Less ritzy more funky than Chewton Glen. Love both.
Pennyhill has a great spa but I wasn't mad about the hotel.
Is The Scarlet fully booked? It's a great hotel.

Bumpinthenight · 10/03/2020 07:09

Hoar Cross Hall is lovely. I have only ever been as a day guest though.

Cwenthryth · 10/03/2020 07:14

My first response was the Gainsborough in Bath as well. The pool/spa area there is absolutely gorgeous and fed by proper mineral spa water. I think some of the rooms you have spa water in the bathrooms as well.

It’s right opposite Thermae - we went there for massages etc on a weekday so it wasn’t too busy, had the hotel spa pool morning & evening and Bath itself has tonnes of lovely places to eat, drink, museums etc.

The Captain's Club in Christchurch is AMAZING, and it's in a really beautiful area with lots to see and do

CurlyWurlyTwos · 10/03/2020 07:15

He Gilpin in the Lake District is fantastic, they also have 2 lovely restaurants. Spa is strictly for guests, they will pick you up from the train station too! You'll definitely have a lovely weekend.

Following the thread with interest!

CurlyWurlyTwos · 10/03/2020 07:16

Argh The Gilpin!

oopsdaisy · 10/03/2020 07:16

Rudding Park doesn't really ooze luxury. The Corinthia in London is good. And although I've not used the spa The Grove in Watford was lovely when I went for afternoon tea - it's where the england football team stay, where David Cameron and Obama played golf and where they had a recent NATO conference.

Could always book a soho house somewhere? Think they always have a cowshed spa which is nice.

Enjoy whatever you do.

BobbyBlueCat · 10/03/2020 07:17

Ragdale Hall is the best I've ever found.

Wistfulthinking · 10/03/2020 07:18

I've been to the Grove and Alexander House and would recommend both. They are in easy reach of London. Enjoy your trip!

redmimi · 10/03/2020 07:21

Hoar Cross Hall is my favourite place, definitely worth a visit.

Neednameinspiration · 10/03/2020 07:28

Cowley Manor is beautiful and there is a great Cotswold pub (the Green Dragon) in walking distance for Sunday lunch if you fancied that.

I'd also recommend Carden Park outside Chester and I believe they've just done a big renovation to their spa area.

SinkGirl · 10/03/2020 07:30

Glad someone has mentioned Lime Wood. Absolutely beautiful and amazing food. Went for DH’s 40th, and then went back again for a cooking class with Angela Hartnett. Would move in if I could :D

Brockenhurst is an easy train from London, then a cab.

boredboredboredboredbored · 10/03/2020 07:51

Host cross hall isn't great. I recently got married at Cowley Manor in the Cotswolds. They have a lovely Spa there, amazing hotel too 👍🏻

funkylittleboatrace · 10/03/2020 07:56

Penny hill park is lovely Celtic manor also has a great spa, don't go to life house I use to be a spa therapist there it's not great.

LouQoo · 10/03/2020 07:57

Langdale in Cumbria but might be a bit far.

Beautiful and well worth a visit though.

MrsMaryBOOface · 10/03/2020 08:04

Swinton Park Estate in Yorkshire- not sure how easy it would be by train though.

Have you thought about a day spa and then separate accommodation if most places are booked on your dates?

peachypetite · 10/03/2020 08:51

Thank you all so much, I really appreciate these suggestions. Quite tempted by Cowley manor which does have availability.
