My daughter has just washed her hair and the bottom of the shower is covered- do lice actually come out like this? Grossed out and scratches scalp.

It doesn’t look like headlice to me - it looks like dirt of some kind.
If it was headlice you’d know - they have legs/antennae!

Bunnyfuller · 20/02/2020 21:53

Give hair a really REALLY good comb, leaning over the bath. The little fuckers will show themselves.

Nits are the eggs that are firmly stuck to strands of hair.

The lice themselves can be all kinds of sizes.

My head it itching typing this!

Ronnie27 · 20/02/2020 21:56

That definitely doesn’t look like lice to me, what has she been doing today?

Another saying check the actual hair.

My son was itching like a mad man for days. I checked his hair for days. Found nothing. Day 4 I found the usain bolt of nits running around his head. I removed it. Itch gone.

The only nit he's ever had in his life!

So I guess some people could be ingested without itching?

nellyburt · 20/02/2020 21:57

Has she been on an outdoor: indoor pitch. It looks like the black plastic from a 3G

pointythings · 20/02/2020 22:02

That doesn't look at all like nits - too big, too dark, the wrong shape.

gamerchick · 20/02/2020 22:03

Check her head.

People don't believe it but lice are pretty intelligent, there is literally only so many can inhabit a head at one time. The rest have to depart. I watched a documentary once to test the intelligence where they put an even number of lice on a man's chest and got 2 other dudes to sit head to head with him. They follow the heat line up the body and a perfectly equal amount chose each head. It debunked the head to head only contact thing.

If so many are on the head, a chunk of them drop off and find another heat line to follow if they live that long. Most people don't allow an infestation to reach that point though where they self select/sacrifice.

Check and if you don't find any then there's another cause of what you've found on the shower.

EnidButton · 20/02/2020 22:03

Limes scale or black mould from inside the shower head or tap? Go and run either on full to see if any bits come out.

milkysmum · 20/02/2020 22:08

Impossible to tell from that photo!

adaline · 20/02/2020 22:09

It looks like the black bits that you can get in body scrubs.

Iggly · 20/02/2020 22:10

Sock fluff?

Troels · 20/02/2020 22:13

those weird bits in fancy body wash? Thats gritty.

TheNoiseHurts · 20/02/2020 22:13

Nah, I don't believe you took a photo of the bath but never bothered checking her actual head.

Cherrysoup · 20/02/2020 22:15

Has she been wearing new socks/a fluffy hat? You need to have a close look at what that actually.

Fred578 · 20/02/2020 22:15

She’s have been itching like mad if they were that bad

marashino · 20/02/2020 22:19

I'd be surprised if they were lice. Has she been out climbing trees?

NormaLouiseBates · 20/02/2020 22:22

What @TheNoiseHurts said. You've gone to the trouble of taking and uploading a photo onto here to ask if a bunch of strangers can tell you if your child's got nits but you haven't actually looked at her head? WTF?

LemonTT · 20/02/2020 22:23

Looks like dislodged limescale from the plug hole. Same colour etc.

separatebeds · 20/02/2020 22:27

Poor girl. That's alot of lice. You need to up your game mum!

Teaandcrisps · 20/02/2020 22:28

Oh fuck its lice loads of little bits in her hair.

Chat about cleanliness and actually washing hair rather than pretending.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww I've got nits
Heeeeeeeeeeelp!

Tistheseason17 · 20/02/2020 22:30

Fingers crossed it's not nits, they're bloody hard to get rid off!

Throwaway2468 · 20/02/2020 22:32

Having nits is nothing to do with how clean or dirty the hair is.
The poor girl

NemophilistRebel · 20/02/2020 22:33

I don’t think not washing her hair would have made any difference

AngelaScandal · 20/02/2020 22:33

Condolences. Grim
