Are you also 12?! Just whack some full marks in, give it a good comb through with plenty of conditioner and if you really haven’t noticed that your 12 year old is crawling with head lice then that’s kind of on you as a parent

MrsAmaretto · 20/02/2020 22:37

How could you not have noticed before???!!! Get yourself to a chemist and get some not combs and some chemical treatment and bloody well follow the instructions!

How in the name of holy hell did that many come out in the wash? The poor kid!!! I'm going to have to denit myself now. Sooo gross.

LoseLooseLucy · 20/02/2020 22:40

Sweet Jesus the infestation must be bad if they're coming out like that!

Crinkle77 · 20/02/2020 22:41

Jesus Christ TheGirl thats a bit harsh. How would you know a 12 year old had nits unless they said their head was itchy? It's not like with younger kids where you might be washing and brushing their hair for them.

Lindy2 · 20/02/2020 22:42

To not have noticed an infestation that bad is really poor. Leaving a child with a headlice infestation is actually classed as neglect. She must be so uncomfortable.

With that many lice I expect everyone in your house probably has them in their hair as well.

Stop ewwwing and go and buy some headlice treatment and nitty gritty combs.

Full Marks treatment has worked well for us in the past but there are many different types. Treat everyone in your house and repeat correctly in line with the instructions of whatever you use or you'll still have them.

Molly2017 · 20/02/2020 22:43

Noooooo! Poor her and poor you. We’ve had them once and it was awful. Myself and my 6mth old son also got them. Had to treat us all. The combing and tears.
My advice, use the stuff from the pharmacy that kills eggs and lice (make sure it says kills), comb through conditioner every day with a nut comb for 14 days straight and then every other day for a further 14 days and you’ll be clear. But treat everyone on the same day or you’ll still be transferring.
Wash all hats and pillows. I also boil washed all towels and bedding but not strictly necessary according to nhs website.
With that many though I would...

Molly2017 · 20/02/2020 22:45

Kills not ‘removes’ very important distinction

OhTheRoses · 20/02/2020 22:46

When did you last nit comb the poor wee lass? A

RedSoloCup · 20/02/2020 22:47

Calm down OP we've had it hundreds of times sadly, get a nifty gritty and full marks together is my recommendation and check hair regularly

SirVixofVixHall · 20/02/2020 22:47

Nitty Gritty comb, and loads of conditioner.
I am astonished that she has that many lice though! When my dd got them she only had a small number of newly hatched lice and her neck was bright red and itchy.

gospelsinger · 20/02/2020 22:47

You are making quite a drama out of this. Nits happen. get a decent nit comb, some conditioner and loads of toilet paper and crack on. It's annoying but that's life. Have you never checked her hair before?

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 20/02/2020 22:47

Wash all the linens and all the clothes with temps over 130f or 55c, and put the pillows in the freezer for a few days. The buggers are everywhere and hard to see so vacuum vacuum vacuum then take the vacuum bags straight out to the binand scrub with vinegar to melt the nit connections and alcohol to kill the crawlies.
Repeat in 7 days to end the life cycle.
You are tougher than they are.

Gooseysgirl · 20/02/2020 22:47

Jesus I can't stop itching my own head now!!

SlightlyJaded · 20/02/2020 22:49

Shock I've never seen them come out like that and we've had nits plenty of times in this house. Bloody hell! Do what @Molly2017 said and get a Nitty Gritty comb - they are 100 times better than an ordinary one.

Gooseysgirl · 20/02/2020 22:49

I think we used Hedrin. I wash DD's hair in the green tea tree vosene shampoo now and she hasn't had them since... but that might be a coincidence 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheChosenTwo · 20/02/2020 22:54

If I’m being honest, for that amount to be left in the bottom of the shower tray after the water has washed away without any special effort to have been made to de-nit herself, she’ll be absolutely riddled with them and there will some on her pillow and probably on the top of her pyjamas etc.
Poor thing, that will have been quite itchy and uncomfortable for quite some time Shock

dementedpixie · 20/02/2020 22:55

Are they actually moving? Lice doesnt just fall out of hair. They cling on for dear life

MazDazzle · 20/02/2020 22:55

Hedrin Once. It suffocates all life lice and also live eggs. One treatment was enough - but we used loads and left it a good while as per instructions. Then slather on conditioner to wet hair. Divide into tiny sections. Take each section at a time, combing through from the scalp, repeatedly in different directions for each section trying to scrape off every egg. Wipe clean with each stroke on a tissue.

dementedpixie · 20/02/2020 22:56

Are you sure it's not rubber crumb?

JustForTheTasteOfIt · 20/02/2020 22:56

Oh my god! Has she said now that it's been itching terribly? I can't imagine how many there will have been for that to be in the shower tray, poor thing must have been crawling!

TheGirlWhoLived · 20/02/2020 22:57

@Crinkle77 I’m not sure I said anything particularly harsh? I asked if she was also 12 because her next two comments were “ewwwwww, nits, that’s so grossssssss”, In the manner of an all American teenager.

Regarding saying that it’s on her as a parent; Op said that she’s had a chat about cleaning and hygiene but I think that a 12 year old is still in the stage where you should spend enough one on one time with them to know that they have an infestation this bad, that’s not the odd nit! She would have been CRAWLING, and if your first port of call is to blame the 12 year old for not washing properly (not important to head lice, they prefer clean hair) instead of looking at your own misdemeanours as a parent for letting it get to that stage then I reckon that is pretty poor going.

Happy to stand corrected though if you thought I was particularly harsh

RedRed9 · 20/02/2020 22:58

I feel so sorry for her. She must be so uncomfortable.

AlCalavicci · 20/02/2020 22:58

God I am itchy all over now ( not helpful )
