My daughter has just washed her hair and the bottom of the shower is covered- do lice actually come out like this? Grossed out and scratches scalp.

It could be their feaces, what goes in must come out.

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 21/02/2020 09:01

OP how can you have kids and not know about head lice?

2/10

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 21/02/2020 09:02

You're repeated use of "Ewwwwwwwwwww" makes it very hard to believe that you are old enough to have a 15 year old. You're being ridiculous. Get rid of the headlice (although I'm not convinced there are any) and pull yourself together.

They would look like this. Different sizes because they're at different stages of the life cycle. All the same size, not moving and falling off the head in great numbers without treatment - they're not nits. You most know this or you wouldn't have gotten into bed bedside her.

BusterGonad · 21/02/2020 10:08

My sons 11 yo. I'm always playing with his hair, supervising his showers etc. I'm not sure how you wouldn't notice your daughter with such terrible nits but we've never had them so what do i know?

HasaDigaEebowai · 21/02/2020 10:10

At 12 I havent been able to make sure child is clean - personal space

WTF. She's 12 and there's a limit to personal space. Its your duty as a parent to ensure she is clean and hygienic. Plus surely you hug her and touch her multiple times throughout the course of the day? Confused

LIZS · 21/02/2020 10:12

Could be lice poo. Is she itchy and yes you need to wetcomb with conditioner today and again on Sunday to look for live ones.

JustForTheTasteOfIt · 21/02/2020 10:12

OP if you think it is nits why on earth are you snuggled up with her instead of dealing with it?

You're basically guaranteeing she passes them on to you and then you'll have even more work to do to get rid of them.

If it is nits (still not convinced but can't think of alternative) I feel so bad for her.

And banging on about hygiene to her (between eeeeews) is only going to make her feel shit and it isn't true, getting nits is nothing to do with cleanliness of hair.

Regardless, If you thought she wasn't taking enough care over her personal hygiene then at 12yo you should have been supervising and ensuring she was washing to a suitable level. You dropped the ball.

PureAlchemy · 21/02/2020 10:17

Are there actually any live head lice?

You need to check that. If there’s an infestation big enough for dead lice to fall out of her hair, then there ought to be plenty of live lice crawling around in there.

If you can’t see any live lice after a thorough check - and they’re not going to stay still and play dead while someone looks through hair - then it might just be bits of dirt.
We’ve had dirt like that come out of hair before when DC have been doing stuff like playing outside and rolling around on the ground.

coconuttelegraph · 21/02/2020 10:17

Are we meant tio be supervising an 11 year old the shower? A secondary school age child? That's not necessary is it?

Every day on MN I find out what a rubbish parent I am Smile

PureAlchemy · 21/02/2020 10:19

And also, my 6 yr old got head lice from school despite me washing his hair every night.

Regular washing and general cleanliness doesn’t protect you from catching them.

worryingAbout · 21/02/2020 10:23

Use conditioner and nit comb first as we didn’t and dd had an infestation and they crawleddown her face as we applied the hedrin

EvaHarknessRose · 21/02/2020 10:24

Put one under a magnifier. It's weird you haven't seen any movement and they just fell out

But if it is nuts, settle in for the long haul. First five days comb through with conditioner in every night (make it a nice ritual in front of the TV). Then keep doing that every other day for another week, or until you are all clear. Then continue once or twice a week. For ages (this way you catch the eggs before they hatch and interrupt the life cycle). Use products by all means but not instead of combing, as well as. And do all of you.

EvaHarknessRose · 21/02/2020 10:25

*nits

DevilsAdv0caat · 21/02/2020 10:29

Say eww one more time.

Moonshine160 · 21/02/2020 10:37

I’ve just read all of this very strange thread, I’m not actually sure if OP is being serious or just taking the piss.

OP, if you are being serious then your selfish attitude is quite concerning with all your eeeeeeews and saying you can’t check your child’s hair because of ‘personal space’. Your DD is 12, still very much a child, and you’re ignoring everyone who’s telling you that getting nits isn’t down to poor hygiene. You keep saying your husband has seen ‘lots of bits’ that aren’t crawling. How about you go get a comb, have a good look and a good brush through her hair to check yourself like any other parent would do? Jesus Christ.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 21/02/2020 10:40

You can easily tell if they're headline because they will crawl, if she's infested enough for them all to jump off lemming style in the shower you'd notice them moving if you part her hair at the nape from ear to ear. All the eeewing is ridiculous, I'd love to see how you would cope with an infestation of threadwormsGrin

HasaDigaEebowai · 21/02/2020 10:41

Are we meant tio be supervising an 11 year old the shower? A secondary school age child? That's not necessary is it?

Well my 12 year old DS2 has form for going into the bathroom, locking the door, turning on the shower, playing on his phone or reading for ten minutes, whipping his head under the shower so that its barely wet and then turning the shower off.

He now has to be sniff tested Grin Blush. I can tell if he's used shampoo and soap.

recordbox · 21/02/2020 11:02

Well it is if the child isn't washing properly. Which has been the case here.

BarbarAnna · 21/02/2020 11:15

This is clearly nonsense.
