My daughter has just washed her hair and the bottom of the shower is covered- do lice actually come out like this? Grossed out and scratches scalp.

Are you sure it's head lice? They don't really look like 'loads of little bits in her hair'. Are they moving?

TheSmallAssassin · 20/02/2020 23:35

Haven't you got a nit comb? I'm a bit Hmm that your daughter has got to 12 without you knowing that getting nits is nothing to do with how well she washes her hair. Please don't make her think this is her fault, if you don't know how to deal with them, how's she supposed to?

Teaandcrisps · 20/02/2020 23:40

So yes very thick hair.

At 12 I havent been able to make sure child is clean - personal space etc.

So I'm hoping that for a few months (eeeeeeeewwwwwwww) of critters maybe it might sink in this time for my DD about personal hygeine. I think that baths/showers might have been run without child having got into it!

Like I said, it means so much to know.what to do next. MN wisdom is appreciated.

But if I may end with Ewwwwwwwwwwww.
And a Wtaf
Puke vomit ewwwwwwwww

What a bizarre attitude towards your child's wellbeing.

aWeaponCalledtheWord · 20/02/2020 23:47

my DD at 11 had incredibly thick hair. by the time we realised she had headlice it was party central at the nape of her neck.

it took weeks and weeks of combing to sort it out, i suspect a child in her class was not being treated and was re-infecting. we went through bottles of conditioner and the sinking feeling of doing the first comb and seeing how many were on the bit of kitchen roll was undiminished each time.

it took probably 6 months to completely eradicate them. i don’t miss the school years at all.

Allcrimps · 20/02/2020 23:48

I don't think personal hygiene is a factor with nits. You catch the bastard from someone, no amount of shampooing will sort that out. You've got to treat, either with not treatment or conditioner and nit combing. They don't give a fuck if you're clean or dirty! I'm amazed she's got to age 12 without catching them though!

Teaandcrisps · 20/02/2020 23:52

3 kids, 15, 12 and 10 and 1st time so absolutely have no fuck star about what to do...

Not a bunny - do I have to wash every bit of soft furnishing too?

Doubletrouble99 · 20/02/2020 23:54

God you sound like a 12 year old yourself! Get a grip. Washing hair and keeping clean has nothing to do with it nits are not attracted to dirty hair. Get your DD to wash her hair cover it with lashings of conditioner, then you comb through with a nit comb to remove all the nits and eggs. Do this every few days until there are none left.
You really can't just leave nits as they spread like wild fire, the whole family will have them as well as all her class mates. Make sure each person in the family uses their own towels, hair brushes and combs and keep them washed. Also wash the bedding to ensure they don't just transfer back into her hair after treatment.

Sagradafamiliar · 20/02/2020 23:55

You don't have to go mad cleaning everything and washing furnishing. They're not fleas.
I have to say, your posting is very weird.

gnushoes · 20/02/2020 23:56

Washing or not washing her own hair properly wouldn't make a blind bit of difference with nits. Amazed you didn't spot this - her hair would have had a silvery sheen and look like awful dandruff with all those eggs. I've only recently stopped staring at my kids' hairlines and they're all young adults now...

Redorangesblue · 20/02/2020 23:56

Wtf 🙄.

That looks like months of infestation, for them to drop out like that in the shower. Where have you been the whole time she’s had them? Her hair must be matted with eggs and nits. How can a parent miss something that’s got this bad?

Washing them won’t get rid of them!

Sometimes I’m shocked at how thick people are when it comes to headlice. But thanks for reminding me, I’m meeting someone a bit like you tomorrow whose kids are always crawling in them. I’ll have to remind my kids to keep their heads away.

Sick.

‘So I'm hoping that for a few months (eeeeeeeewwwwwwww) of critters maybe it might sink in this time for my DD about personal hygeine. I think that baths/showers might have been run without child having got into it’

Are you suggesting you are going to leave her with her head crawling with critters so she learns a lesson in person hygiene?

Justaboy · 21/02/2020 00:00
  1. Go to shop get a good nit comb.
  1. Comb DD's thatched head.
  1. Tell school so school nurse is aware.
  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until nits have soddeded off to the great nit yard inthe sky:)

There sorted that was quite easy wasn't it

eewwwwwwgh!!

MetallicPaints · 21/02/2020 00:03

Erm... how strange this thread isHmm

Redorangesblue · 21/02/2020 00:03

OP doesn’t want the trouble of helping her dd get rid off them. She’s too much into her “eeewwwwww”-ing to give a shit.

Kids who have infestations of nits as bad as this are neglected children. I see it as abuse tbh. Get over yourself and be a fucking parent.

AnyFucker · 21/02/2020 00:04

Op, you sound very immature

Hypergear · 21/02/2020 00:05

@NoddyMcPintsAlot
I read that as OP is implying that the nits have been there a few months as a result of poor personal hygiene, and this will be her lesson to not let it happened again? Confused

Hotchocolate321 · 21/02/2020 00:05

Please stop with the hygiene and about your child not being clean, like its her fault, it's not!!! Nits will go on the cleanest of hair it has nothing to do with how clean you are!!! As for checking hair my mum used to be a school nurse, she was still checking my hair well into high school. It was sheer luck my sister and I and brother for that matter avoided getting them, nothing to do with hair washing or indeed my mum's ocd about checking for them regularly. She never allowed my sister and I to have our hair down at school or parties though, this is something I now stick to my my own children.

It might not be something you think they'll get by high school but you should still keep an eye out in everyone's hair, particularly if you still have little people in the house too.

There are some very good tips on here (which I've made a mental note of just in case!), just chill with the blaming though.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/02/2020 00:05

anyone else itching now?

Teaandcrisps · 21/02/2020 00:13

Well thanks to all who had constructive advice much appreciated and the reason why this site is so fantastic.

I'm going to bed now, itching...with DD next to me because comfort is needed.....you got to laugh at this parenting lark. Enjoy your bug free homes people 🤣

Spartonian · 21/02/2020 00:14

@Teaandcrisps you still haven't answered if you have found any actual headlice.

If she has not washed her hair for a while that could just be dirt.

I wouldn't be going to bed with her! I wouldn't want to catch nits! 🤣.
Do an over night solution in her hair the little pests will fall right out and put a towel on her pillow preferably white!
We've all been a nitty Nora at some stage in our life.
