So very sad. My heart goes out to her family.

EchoLimaYankee · 15/02/2020 18:21

This is another example of press misogyny. Yes, she did something wrong but she was hounded by the press and kicked out of her job. Yet, Ant McPartlin drives around drunk, caused a three car crash and yet gets sympathetic press coverage and fucking presenter of the year Hmm

userxx · 15/02/2020 18:22

As an ex met officer myself there must be do much more to what she did than we know ☹️

Not necessarily, the cps charged someone I know with something fucking ridiculous, even the police involved were like WTF. I'm thinking her being a celebrity worked against her on this.

GreyGardens88 · 15/02/2020 18:22

Every single poster in mumsnet was slagging her off a few weeks ago, it's not just the media Hmm

username2020 · 15/02/2020 18:23

ok first of all, I've attempted suicide twice in case anyone thinks I'm unsympathetic...

Its very sad and she should have gotten support and I feel bad for her family.

But it doesn't lessen or excuse what she did. And the media (from what I could see) only reported the facts and she didn't need to look at social media

LoveNote · 15/02/2020 18:23

I believe the nature of her crime and fact police continued to prosecute after boyfriend withdrew his complaint. Well. I think she may have been looking at a custodial sentence

Not the press fault. Not social media’s either.

SoupDragon · 15/02/2020 18:24

Yet, Ant McPartlin drives around drunk...

If he had assaulted his wife it would have been different.
If she had driven around drunk it would have been different.

Bluntness100 · 15/02/2020 18:24

I really think it's out of line for people to blame the media like this. Clearly she had a lot more going on, a lot that the public didn't know.

Folks should have some respect for her family, her (ex) partner, and everyone else that knew her, or was aware of what was happening in her private life.

Walkthedinosauuuuur · 15/02/2020 18:24

@lovenote exactly - lots of people quick to defend her but wouldn't be defending a bloke. Of course it's sad she's dead but change the gender and these comments would have a very different tone.

LoveNote · 15/02/2020 18:25

Yes her poor boyfriend

He must be in bits. None of this is his fault but I bet he feels so torn

PattiPrice · 15/02/2020 18:25

Had this been a man, I think may people would be quietly applauding

Really? I doubt anyone would applaud someone taking their own life.

The poor woman must have been at rock bottom to kill herself. So young too. It is very sad.

TryingToBeBold · 15/02/2020 18:25

Her bf called 999 and said "she tried to kill me".
He was found with a head wound and blood was all over their flat.
But apparently she did nothing wrong. And he continued to defend her.

Previous bf has also indicated that she was like this in a previous relationship.

Suicide is awful. Mental health is fragile sometimes. I feel sorry for her family but she was no martyr.

JacquesHammer · 15/02/2020 18:26

I find it curious that so many pp are expressing sympathy. She allegedly beat up her boyfriend (and the one before). Had this been a man, I think may people would be quietly applauding. Why is it different because she’s a woman? Bit unfair

I am sympathetic at the grossly misogynistic press attacks she has come under.

I would never applaud someone’s death - male or female - whatever they had done Confused

Regardless of what was alleged about her, she had parents, a family and friends who dearly loved her, they must be absolutely devastated and deserve the dignity of being able to mourn her now in peace without everyone putting their opinions forward, dreadfully sad, I will remember her in Strictly for her marvellous dancing and beautiful smiling face, bloody tragic RIP

Dm5678 · 15/02/2020 18:28

They need to axe love island. So many needless deaths all connected to it. It's psychological warfare. Poor girl rest in peace.

JacquesHammer · 15/02/2020 18:29

Every single poster in mumsnet was slagging her off a few weeks ago, it's not just the media

Really....? “Every single poster”?

EasyLifer · 15/02/2020 18:29

I've never watched any of her shows, I only know who she is from news headlines, and obviously I don't know the ins and outs of her recent personal life.

However it's always sad to hear that a life has been cut short, for whatever reason, and I feel for her family.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 15/02/2020 18:29

I thought she seemed quite troubled for a little while, she was hounded by the media and if she did take her own life she obviously didn't have the support to deal with it, it's the same for all the reality TV 'stars' that suddenly hit the headlines and don't know how to deal with the darker side of fame.

She was a beautiful dancer in Strictly and seemed to be quite a down to earth woman who has now gone. My thoughts are with her family and friends who have to grieve for her whilst in the spotlight.

tobee · 15/02/2020 18:30

I don't know much about the recent stories except knew there was a pile on. I saw her do a few things a few years ago on tv. But all of us on this house are incredibly shocked. Hard not to jump to conclusions, which we shouldn't.

ilovesprouts · 15/02/2020 18:31

Such awful news 😓

Isbutteracarb · 15/02/2020 18:32

Awful Shock

Nat6999 · 15/02/2020 18:34

Her family have confirmed she took her own life. Someone who to most of us looked like she had everything, so sad & shocking.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/02/2020 18:35

@DeRigueurMortis I think there would have been calls of "Good riddance" if it were a man about to appear in court over beating the crap out of his female partner.

It's sad that anyone gets to this stage. I don't agree that it's "death by press" though. As a pp mentioned, Johnny Depp was torn apart, and didn't it turn out to be a load of rubbish?
