Gosh the hypocrisy is astounding. How many posts about how wrong it is for the press hounding her and all the social media abuse she got...how many of you were here bashing the likes of Meghan for days on end. She might not of killed herself but seriously people need to check themselves.

On one hand trolling a person a online the next going round saying how it was horrible she was hounded.
Bloody hell.

Maybe ymthose of you who direct so much shit towards these celebrities should stop, cos your just a contributor

GabsAlot · 16/02/2020 18:10

havent seen anyone blame the press on here and if they did mayb e theyre not the ones who have had a go at meghan

Have you actually read the thread?

That is not just in the case of Caroline Flack, two other ex love islanders have committed suicide with one being very open about their struggles with trolling

At their inquests, both of these people were found to have cocaine in their systems. www.drugfreeworld.org/drugfacts/cocaine/effects-of-cocaine.html

Drug users are 16 times more likely to commit suicide.

LuxDesignWish · 16/02/2020 18:24

My point (gut feeling comments aside - don't be distracted by that), is that police can assess situations incorrectly. My point is that we can speculate all we want but none of us here know anything - we know nothing about the situation. We don't have access to the full picture yet people here are building their cases based on what they have read in the news. I am a VERY factual and data/information driven person by nature and profession but a gut feeling on a situation is not to be sniffed it.

Why do people stay on Instagram, Twitter et al if they struggle with trolling? Look after your mental health and get off them.

Sofacat · 16/02/2020 18:33

This exactly.

I think it’s a bit like some AIBU threads where everyone says YABU except one poster and the Op latches onto that. People stay on sm in the hope that they read one nice thing about themselves amongst all the other horrible stuff.

Horsemad · 16/02/2020 18:35

They're sucked into it by being a celebrity I suppose, and it becomes addictive.
Plenty of teens who aren't celebs are hooked on it too sadly.

LoveNote · 16/02/2020 18:35

police may well assess situations wrongly ,...i'm ex police myself

but they would have a tough time convincing the cps to proceed without some very compelling evidence

none of that evidence we have knowledge of by the way....none

64sNewName · 16/02/2020 18:36

Why do people stay on Instagram, Twitter et al if they struggle with trolling?

Because they’re addicted, surely. We all know it’s addictive stuff.

Sure, maybe some of us find it relatively easy to step back, but I am sure it’s not as easy to detach if you’ve been encouraged for years to engage with it as part of your career.

Sofacat · 16/02/2020 18:41

It’s really sad and quite worrying that a large amount of people these days seem to need validation from complete strangers . We are losing the ability to ‘know’ ourselves, to be happy in ourselves without constantly seeking ‘likes’ from people that neither really know anything about us nor actually care.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 16/02/2020 18:42

I came off Facebook because it was having an issue with my mental health. I am still on twitter and had a few issues. Someone having a go at my very dry hair. (It is in bad condition due to some medication I am taking) I took it on the chin and challenged the person who did back down. Some people are just spoiling for a fight. I think if I was in the public eye I would not have a insta or twitter or I would pay someone to sort it for me. Honestly life is too short. Caroline would have been better tucking herself away in the priory or on a retreat or something, turning off her phone, reading a few novels and having counselling.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 16/02/2020 18:43

As this case never got to trial we don't know if she was innocent or guilty. I accept that. I believe her ex bf and I don't think the CPS would proceed without strong evidence.

I just think that statements expressing sympathy at her death should be more measured and a bit more restrained given that she was awaiting trial.

Horsemad · 16/02/2020 18:44

So true @Sofacat.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 16/02/2020 18:46

Why do people stay on Instagram, Twitter et al if they struggle with trolling?

Because for a lot of these "celebrities" that is quite literally all they do or are famous for. Self publicity is their job. It's terrifying really.

ShatnersWig · 16/02/2020 18:50

But most 'serious' celebs don't even do their own tweets or Instagram posts. Their management teams do them.

GabsAlot · 16/02/2020 18:54

tomselleck why out your pciture on? im on twitter but have a pic of my cat as my profile therefore noone telling me how i look is crap etc

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 16/02/2020 18:58

One of them is tubs from the league of gentleman the other you can’t really see me that well!! I’ve got to say I get some amusing comments for tubs like you old ugly woman etc.

TruffleShuffles · 16/02/2020 19:04

I’m getting uncomfortable with the amount of posts saying if you don’t like people abusing you on social media don’t use it. That isn’t the way to deal with the issue, you should be able to put what you like on your pages without being aggressively attacked for no real reason. People who troll people in the public eye say the most awful and hurtful things with no basis or justification. Why should people have to let them win by stopping posting things instead of the trolls being dealt with. The amount of suicides being put down to online bullying is unacceptable.

WatcherintheRye · 16/02/2020 19:05

Caroline’s crimes should not be airbrushed

Which crimes??

The accusations of DV, for which she was due to go on trial for.

So accusations = crimes, and she was guilty before the trial even took place? Also, what about self-defence? How do you know she wasn't defending herself? Was anyone on here actually there at the time?

unique1986 · 16/02/2020 19:07

I've also read many times CF and Harry was just bearding.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 16/02/2020 19:10

Ok. Her alleged crimes.

5he fact is, she had been charged and was awaiting trial.

Isn't it hard to plead self defence when the victim is asleep?

I'm pretty sure the police would have been able to differentiate between wounds inflicted on a person laying down and a person standing or even sitting up and attacking the other person.

ShatnersWig · 16/02/2020 19:10

Truffle of course people shouldn't need to leave social media sites, the trolls should. But at the same time, we also have to take responsibility for our own mental health. We frequently tell people that if family or friends behaviour regularly upsets you, to go low contact or no contact. I see social media as the same. In an ideal world the trolls would be permanently removed but until that time, if it's so bad it makes me feel like shit, I'd prefer to leave and look after myself.
