It's nastiness and jealousy of a very attractive, successful woman. Pure ugly jealousy. Women really can be the worst.
The woman is dead now. Let her rest in peace.

There was nothing to be jealous of. She was obviously very troubled and unhappy.

AuntieCedent · 16/02/2020 11:04

I think the fact the other thread was deleted shows how female partner abuse is normalised in society and Mumsnet have done the same here.

Like a lot of abusers (which we have more than enough evidence to say that she was), she was scared to be accountable for her actions so she escaped them. What is sad is that her friends and family didn't push her for the help she needed years ago when she was dating young boys. Even now, each boyfriend is at least ten years younger than her and lets face it, that is more like 20 when you're dealing with men and young boys in their teens and twenties.

ShatnersWig · 16/02/2020 11:04

Um, you do know some of the people on here are men. Not really jealous of an attractive successful woman actually.

PortiaCastis · 16/02/2020 11:05

Awful awful thing to happen, my thoughts are with the family and friends, nothing more to be said really as the grief is theirs and I don't want to pick the bones of the dead.

@PortiaCastis

I'm guessing you never speak about Jimmy Saville then.

pinksoda35 · 16/02/2020 11:10

I just feel so sad..Sure I didn't know her but it is just a sad depressing situation all round

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/02/2020 11:18

The double standards on MN are amazing. Alleged abuser kills themselves when due to stand trial. Suicide is always sad but there would not be this minimising of DV if the alleged abuser was Male.

TruffleShuffles · 16/02/2020 11:20

It’s sad that people are seeing this purely in black and white. People can be sad that Caroline is dead but not condone her choices and the way she lived her personal life.

There is no need to question people who have sympathy for her death as she may have been found guilty of DV. You also don’t need to be so callous about it as she may have been found to have committed a crime. She hadn’t gone to trial yet, nothing has even been proved.

Mysterian · 16/02/2020 11:23

Innocent until proven guilty. Just like nobody is speculating about Michael Barrymore.

AuntieCedent · 16/02/2020 11:24

I think the facts as stated say quite enough.

Vegansarefriends · 16/02/2020 11:25

This won’t change anything, only this morning I have watched two posters opine about being kind on here and then carry on bullying strangers on the internet on another sub.

Nothing will change sadly.

Justanotherlurker · 16/02/2020 11:28

Innocent until proven guilty.

On MN it is usually no smoke without fire if the roles are reversed.

MN is yet again showing it's hypocrisy

SpokeTooSoon · 16/02/2020 11:29

I think this is undoubtedly true

Raindrops17 · 16/02/2020 11:33

How judgmental! You have no bloody idea what her friends and family have and haven't done. And would you be saying this about a man dating younger women? Do they all need to go and get help? Posters are right there is double standards and 9.9 times out of 10 it's the women that are always vilified.

SpokeTooSoon I agree, people seem to live out their whole life on social media.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 16/02/2020 11:56

AuntieCedent and EmmaGrundy I agree with you.

I've read threads before where women are advised to ignore male abusers threatening suicide as it's just another form of abuse.

I don't want to speak ill of the dead but I cannot understand all of the supportive comments being posted about her.

I think there's little doubt that she abused partners and just her relationship with a 17 year old when she was in her 30s makes me feel very uncomfortable.

I will save my sympathy for her family and also her ex boyfriend who I hope gets support to recover from this.

FrippEnos · 16/02/2020 12:00

@TruffleShuffles

*She hadn’t gone to trial yet, nothing has even been proved.

It is worth remembering that many on here for male abusers even if found not guilty, it is said that it doesn't mean that they didn't do it.

TheFairyCaravan · 16/02/2020 12:01

How many high profile male celebrities have much younger female partners? Penny Lancaster is old enough to be Rod Stewart's daughter but that's fine isn't it? Double standards yet again.

Truth is Caroline hadn’t been mentioned in the press for weeks

Absolute rot. The truth is the press never let her be. I posted up thread about the article The Scum published this week about the disgusting Valentine's Card with Caroline's face on it. You won't find it now though because while Dan Wootton has been trying to do damage limitation on Twitter they've got Sun journos deleting all their shitty articles about her. That's the truth.

Sunshineand · 16/02/2020 12:14

Did anyone see Ella Whelan commenting about her death on Sky News tonight? She kept banging on about how Caroline was a “woman of a certain age”, “Not afraid to wear little dresses even though she was edging towards 40”, “a good time girl who dated younger men”, “I’m 28 and she was considerably older than me” etc? I was watching with my mouth hanging open at just how insensitive and bitchy it was and how she seemed to be implying that once you hit 40 it’s all over. She also said that Caroline knew the risks when she put herself in the public role and seemed to be implying that she brought all the negativity on herself.

Yeah I saw that and couldn't believe it!

WatcherintheRye · 16/02/2020 12:15

It's so true that things aren't ever black and white, no matter how much people want them to be.

In a hypothetical scenario, what if both those involved have been drinking/taking drugs and they're having an argument? Maybe one didn't like the other flirting with someone at a party. They are verbally abusive, nasty and goady to each other. Maybe exchanging hateful insults and threatening to leave, then one of them, in the heat of the moment, grabs the nearest object and takes a swing. Or they're both doing that and one makes contact. Is that different? Does it matter which sex either party is?

You can speculate and pigeonhole till you're blue in the face. Who knows what the dynamic was? No-one.

sendhelpppppp · 16/02/2020 12:20

All that matters is that she assaulted him.

There is no excuse for it.
