This is tragic, even though she maybe got some things wrong. It's not just a matter of people believing the media- it was going to court, so there was some evidence.

Noodlenosefraggle · 15/02/2020 19:42

Oh no how awful. Poor woman, and her poor friends and family. Rip

todayisnottuesday · 15/02/2020 19:42

Dan Wootton is getting absolutely slated on Twitter for trashing her in the paper then tweeting sympathies.

Good. People should be calling them out for such despicable hypocrisy. It was the same with Diana, Jade Goody and Amy Winehouse to name just a few, yet still they carry on regardless. Things need to change.

coconuttelegraph · 15/02/2020 19:45

yes i forgot about how all trials are fair -oj the inocent simpson

That's a stupid comparison, the UK and US legal systems are completely different, how is that relevant?

ItchyScratch · 15/02/2020 19:46

This has effected me more than it probably should.
I am so heartbroken for her.
It is so unbelievably tragic.
Absolutely devastated for her family.

AngusDuck · 15/02/2020 19:47

I hope Piers Morgan gets slated too. He might not have hounded Caroline Flack, but his constant bullying and vile treatment of other people (Meghan Markle in particular) is horrendous and should be stopped.

MrsMozartMkII · 15/02/2020 19:47

May she rest in peace.

JenMumsnet · 15/02/2020 19:49

Thanks to everyone who has been reporting these threads.
Just to remind you all to keep in mind that this is a very difficult time for all those who knew her, so please post with kindness and refrain from speculation.

Livelovebehappy · 15/02/2020 19:49

BirdieFriendBadge but why the end of Love Island? I don’t watch the program, but they absolutely had nothing to do with her taking her own life. The only link being that she stepped down from presenting the program whilst she stood trial for assault. She wouldn’t have been able to travel abroad to do the program whilst she was awaiting trial, so I fail to see why you feel the program should be held accountable for her ending her life?

For all the posters blaming the press - how do you know what was written? It's because you clicked on it or bought the print copy.

You are the audience that the gutter press is (successfully) targeting and therefore part of the reason that these stories are reported in the way that they are.

Think about it.

MissEliza · 15/02/2020 19:55

@JenMumsnet well said

NotNowMrTumnus · 15/02/2020 19:57

ITV should look at itself very carefully.

Because I work in social media. I see headlines/quotes despite not clicking/buying copy. That’s how social media works.

NemophilistRebel · 15/02/2020 19:59

I feel so sad and sorry for her and her family

I don’t know what she must have been going through but I hope she is at peace

CallofDoodee · 15/02/2020 19:59

I really hope someone is looking after her boyfriend right now Sad

ilovesprouts · 15/02/2020 20:00

Be kind to each other. Stop the trolling. Stop the online abuse, the hate, the death threats. Just...stop. Life's short enough as it is. Don't contribute to someone else's life being even shorter. R.I.P Caroline Flack.

nacher · 15/02/2020 20:00

I feel very old and very sad at this news. Such a waste.

There were a few threads on here about her being quite vicious. I remember thinking how awful for someone to be discussed in such a way by people who have never met her. So sad!

NemophilistRebel · 15/02/2020 20:05

Glad I don’t read these awful newspapers Going by what’s been said here

Cremebrule · 15/02/2020 20:06

Ultimately it is a sad thing when someone dies before their time. Suicide is devastating for those left behind and whatever she did or didn’t do, her ex and family will be going through a difficult time.

She always seemed like a troubled lady and when my husband said she had died, my first instinct was to ask if it was an OD. A lot of celebs seem to win big but also lose big as well.

Noodlenosefraggle · 15/02/2020 20:09

Just because she fucked up at times doesn't make less of a tragic waste of a young life.
Yes this. She was only 40. If she had been convicted of assault she could have been helped with her anger issues or of she had any addiction issues. Now she can't be. I didn't watch her in anything apart from Strictly but it's still sad when a young person dies.

Babybel90 · 15/02/2020 20:12

This is the third suicide by someone who has appeared in Love Island, surely they’ll have to axe it now?

She may not have been a contestant but I bet it wasn’t her choice to “step down” and any other job you’d be on gardening leave until after the court case, not dropped and replaced with an identikit model.

Shinycat · 15/02/2020 20:13

I am so shocked to hear what has happened. I know Caroline was no angel, and she seemed like a troubled soul, but what's happened is AWFUL! I have to admit I was never a fan of hers.. but she was OK. (I didn't like her, I didn't hate her.....)

But this has knocked me for six, and as a pp @ItchyScratch said, it has affected me more than I thought it would. I cannot process it at all. Her life turned sour in a very short space of time. (And I know she was part of why it did,) but she must have been in such a state mentally and emotionally to have taken her own life.

R.I.P. Caroline.

Oh and as for the posters saying 'you didn't know her, so why do you care???' Buzz off. Go on shoo shoo shoo... Hmm
