How do you like your steak?

Having steak for tea. DH is having his steak well done, but I hate mine where it's so done that it becomes tough and chewy! Envy

How do you like yours?

I'm a vegetarian so don't eat meat but when I did, I liked it well done.

I intensely dislike the snobby references re well done steak meaning you don't understand food and the plaintive cries of "whyyyy?" and "what a waste". A waste would be me eating food cooked a way I dislike it just to satisfy somebody else. Can people genuinely not understand that people have different preferences?

ThePolishWombat · 16/02/2020 14:48

Personally, I don’t care how you like your steak - it’s you eating it, not me!

But I once worked in a hotel with a very eccentric chef..:and he cared. He cared a lot Confused
We had a particularly difficult customer once who did everything humanly possible to make everyone’s job harder - the way to bf staff, the bar staff, the kitchen staff. She even complained to the gardener that the patio heater was a few feet too far away rather than just move herself closer to it Hmm
She ordered a well done fillet steak, and as soon as I walked into the kitchen with the order ticket I knew what was coming....the chef looked at it, and bellowed “WELL WHATS THE FUCKING POINT THEN?!!”, threw down his pan and stormed off for a cigarette Blush
Dramatic and unnecessary? Yes.
Hilarious? Also yes Grin

ThePolishWombat · 16/02/2020 14:48

That’s supposed to be “waiting staff” Blush

MummySharn · 16/02/2020 14:50

Medium

FET2020 · 16/02/2020 16:01

@BobLobLawLLB you’ve just made everyone on this thread want to eat more meat. I was veggie for 25 years, I’m so glad I wasn’t a dick like you 😂

The natural world is cruel I’m afraid. Millions of animals are eaten alive everyday. We are part of that world. Millions of animals are crushed to death in vegetable farming too!. There’s no such thing as a vegan diet, As there is no food that is produced were an animal has not either been killed or used in some way. Meat is healthy and good for us, you can’t stop humans eating our natural diet I’m afraid. I don’t want to live on a diet popping pills just to survive.

FuckingHateRats · 16/02/2020 16:02

Medium rare, with peppercorn sauce mmmmmmmm

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/02/2020 16:06

Medium well

bevelino · 16/02/2020 16:06

@WelcomeToTheMountaintop Grin

Bluntness100 · 16/02/2020 16:11

Medium, I can eat rare but don't prefer it. I couldn't touch blue.

The thought of people dipping their chips into the blood actually has made me feel genuinely queasy.

Mammyloveswine · 16/02/2020 16:20

Ribeye medium!

All this talk has just made me book miller and carter for date night!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 16/02/2020 16:27

Rare. Had one Friday night, home cooked with roasted veggies and a very nice glass of vino. 😋

BlingLoving · 16/02/2020 16:35

Making me crave steak.

Dh always used to have well done. We were in France at lovely restaurant and he asked for it well done. The waiter literally sucked a breath in and said, "I will ask the chef". Anyway, steak that came out was medium at best! Hilariously, dh really loved it and now always has it medium. He cant cope with any blood but a little pink is okay!!

Chanel05 · 16/02/2020 17:09

Very well done, no pink whatsoever inside and a bit burnt on the outside! I've sent back steak before that is medium cooked when I've requested very well done as described above.

RaininSummer · 16/02/2020 17:19

Grazing in a field 😜

GiantKitten · 16/02/2020 17:21

Rare, unless it’s ribeye - I’ve been convinced by several steaky restaurants that ribeye is best done medium-rare Smile

SpaceDinosaur · 16/02/2020 17:26

Depends entirely on the cut and quality of the meat/establishment.

Typically medium rare/rare

I LOVE bleu but only from trusted suppliers and restaurants.

I'm currently pregnant tho so avoiding steak because I can't stomach the idea of overcooking it 🤣

FET2020 · 16/02/2020 17:37

I’ve got a friend who eats it raw, cold 😂

snowone · 16/02/2020 17:46

Medium rare is optimum for me! Bloody lovely! 🙂

emmetgirl · 16/02/2020 17:47

Very rare

PresidentBartlett · 16/02/2020 18:10

Rare- leaning towards blue.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/02/2020 18:17

Medium rare
And the chips soaking up the watery blood Grin

I like with a peppercorn sauce (not that you asked)

Hungry now

SazCat · 16/02/2020 20:16

Rare - we cool for around 1.5 mins each side (depending on thickness ).

I find if you leave to rest for a good few mins before putting on the serving plate, then the bloody juice comes out anyway.

So you don't have to have it on your plate! I don't but my DH pours it all over his steak.

BobLobLawLLB · 17/02/2020 14:16

FET2020 shrugs.

BeyondMyWits · 17/02/2020 14:27

medium to medium rare - not fussy if it comes out a bit bloody.

My absolute favourite is a sirloin done at home in the frying pan - where you put it on meltingly hot, it goes a bit burnt, you flip it, goes a bit burnt. But pink/red in the middle. Not many restaurants get the decently charred but medium

PH30B3 · 17/02/2020 19:32

I always ask for it Blue that way it usually comes rare and im happy but if it's actually Blue even better.
