How do you like your steak?

Having steak for tea. DH is having his steak well done, but I hate mine where it's so done that it becomes tough and chewy! Envy

How do you like yours?

Blue. Steak - pan. Pan - steak. Air kisses both sides and that's it done for me and DCs. Grin

MIL likes hers well done. Why????

assilem92 · 15/02/2020 17:15

Medium rare, more on the rare side when I'm cooking it myself

Fallstar · 15/02/2020 17:15

Rare. Occasionally medium rare.

Morgan12 · 15/02/2020 17:17

Mooing

adaline · 15/02/2020 17:22

As rare as possible.

Blue if it's somewhere decent but most places around here won't cook it like that.

ReginaGeorgeous · 15/02/2020 17:31

Medium. Not bloody, but not tough.

Bittercup · 15/02/2020 17:49

I also like mine to moo. I used to be a vegetarian Blush

amusedbush · 15/02/2020 17:55

MIL likes hers well done. Why????

At our office Christmas night out my colleague paid extra for the steak and then asked for it well done. You could have re-soled your shoes with it. What a waste 😭

TellySavalashairbrush · 15/02/2020 17:57

Well done and I don’t care if I’m judged as a philistine! Can’t think of anything worse than blood on my plate mingling with chips or vegetables 🤮

TonTonMacoute · 15/02/2020 18:44

Rare, or saignant when in France. One patronne of a French restaurant told us we were the only English people she had ever served who had asked for steak done this way!

Proseccoagain · 15/02/2020 21:15

Medium rare. Three minutes on one side on a high heat, then turn it and cook till specks of blood appear on the top side. Perfect medium rare steak.

Getoffmylilo · 15/02/2020 21:22

Medium rare for hanger steak, medium for everything else.

loutypips · 15/02/2020 22:24

The 'juice' isn't actually blood.

FET2020 exactly, the NATURAL world.
Your meat was fed by force,
was impregnated by force,
had their babies taken by force,
was confined by force,
had their beaks, genitalia, tails, toes, ears and teeth removed by force,
was transported by force,
And had their life taken by force.
Not comparable to a lion chasing its next meal.

Blue but so hard to get it like that in a restaurant in the UK, I cook it that way at home though. I don't understand people who like it well done, or even medium really. I know we all like different things, but I can't see what there is to like.

BlueHarry · 15/02/2020 23:15

Rare, or saignant when in France. One patronne of a French restaurant told us we were the only English people she had ever served who had asked for steak done this way!

In France when the waiter came to our table and I said "steak", he started to say "medium" and I said " non, bleu", in my best french accent. And he looked at me strangely, so I repeated myself about twenty times. It was a very embarrassing moment because I got so animated but I had been excited at the thought that I might actually get a steak cooked just the way I liked it and the thought of getting a medium one horrified me. It came back more like a rare steak, but it was good still. I don't think they believed that I wanted what I wanted.

BarbedBloom · 15/02/2020 23:20

Medium

Obviouspretzel · 16/02/2020 07:55

This thread has everything I knew it would. Loads of people thinking they are superior for eating their steak almost raw. Loads of unfunny jokes trying to play oneupmanship on how raw they like their meat. A sanctimonious vegan. Someone very clever explaining how the blood isn't blood.

Medium rare for me. But will happily eat tartare or well done meat that isn't cooked until it's like shoe leather (which I do believe is possible depending on cut. It's nowhere near as nice but still...).

SuperMeerkat · 16/02/2020 08:30

My mouth is watering. Medium for me please. Nice and pink in the middle please.

BobLobLawLLB · 16/02/2020 10:08

Yup. Sanctimonious, I'll take that. They can't fight for their lives, so i will.

OverthinkingThis · 16/02/2020 10:11

Medium rare. I always accidentally overcook steak at home so tend to save it for meals out these days.

Millettmum · 16/02/2020 10:14

Blue!

Sandsnake · 16/02/2020 10:32

Rare, verging on blue if it’s the right cut. I had my first post-baby steak last night - hadn’t bothered in pregnancy as don’t see the point if I have to have it overcooked. The steak was part of an online food shop and the one that had been picked was thin and wide, rather than thick as I would have chosen. That, plus trying to feed a newborn, meant that my long awaited rare steak was more like medium - medium / well. Gutted! Will have to try again soon with a hand selected cut.

lampygirl · 16/02/2020 10:48

I like ribeye and tend to go the medium end of medium rare. I like it hot all the way through and the fat cooked, but still very much pink in the middle. DP likes fillet and has that rare or medium rare. My DM has hers as well done as possible and it did put me off steak as a kid because it was so chewy.

pointythings · 16/02/2020 11:49

Rare, blue if fillet.

And a message for the sanctimonious vegan: a lot more people will take your message on board if you deliver it less smugly. My DD1 is vegetarian. As a result we all eat a lot less meat. Because she doesn't judge, she just puts her point of view across respectfully.

You will achieve nothing with your ranting except to make people eat more meat.
