How do you like your steak?

Having steak for tea. DH is having his steak well done, but I hate mine where it's so done that it becomes tough and chewy! Envy

How do you like yours?

I normally order it medium rare these days; when I was a child, I always ordered it blue. I was a strange child. We're supposed to be having pizza tonight but now I really want steak. I have to say, I don't understand a well done steak. If you want well done meat, there are so many other choices of cuts.

eyemask · 14/02/2020 19:37

Medium

firsttimemomx · 14/02/2020 19:39

Rare

Raera · 14/02/2020 19:41

Sirloin or rump, rare.
Fillet blue, also like fillet tartare.
Don't eat meat on Fridays, so salmon tonight!

Oblomov20 · 14/02/2020 19:41

Rare, or the rare dude of medium rare.

Eminybob · 14/02/2020 19:43

I used to like a rare steak but just recently I’ve found it really off putting. So I go for medium now.
Having steak tonight actually, with black garlic butter, dauphinois potatoes and griddled asparagus.

Eminybob · 14/02/2020 19:47

People who order steak well done don't understand food

I find this such a snobby attitude. Surely it’s just personal preference.
How rare you have your steak is not an indicator of superiority

CrowleysBentley · 14/02/2020 19:48

Medium-rare or rare depending on the cut.

Foxd0g · 14/02/2020 19:49

Rare, but pregnant so having tonight's, cooked by DP, well done. I don't mind TOO much...

ineedaholidaynow · 14/02/2020 19:51

Me - medium rare
DH - rare or blue depending on the cut. He grew up with a parent who always cooked beef very well done, he now has it at the opposite end of the spectrum

Mummyme87 · 14/02/2020 19:51

Mooing

TheWordmeister · 14/02/2020 19:52

I don't much like red meat but if I eat steak it's medium-rare.

My dh is a real foodie and thinks it should be eaten very rare.

twelveminutespast · 14/02/2020 19:55

Just had my steak and it was perfect.

Have to admit I haven't eaten it rare but I can't imagine doing so

DarkDarkNight · 14/02/2020 19:55

Medium-rare, and always a bit disappointed if it’s more medium and there’s no Red in it.

OneFootintheRave · 14/02/2020 19:56

On the rare side. But well rested!

Purpleartichoke · 14/02/2020 19:57

Medium rare. Nice pink throughout, but not runny.

JuniperSling · 14/02/2020 19:58

As long as it's not too bloody or too overdone, I'm not fussed really!

WelcomeToTheMountaintop · 14/02/2020 20:01

Rare enough that a good vet could have it back on its feet

twelveminutespast · 14/02/2020 20:01

What does rare actually taste like? I can't imagine it! Is it tough? Is it soft? Does it taste bloody?

OP posts:
formerbabe · 14/02/2020 20:04

What does rare actually taste like?

Soft, buttery, melts in your mouth with a slight iron tang to the taste.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/02/2020 20:07

Much more likely to be tough if well done rather than rare

craftycrochet · 14/02/2020 20:07

Rare here. DH started off at well done but after nearly 20 years together he happily eats it rare.
Love it with a baked potato so it can mop up all the juices.

Now all I want is steak to eat.

85notout · 14/02/2020 20:07

Cooked until the chef thinks it's ruined AKA very well done.

twelveminutespast · 14/02/2020 20:09

@formerbabe Sounds good, except the iron bit!

@loutypips You reminded me of my DS when he was young. We served up Ostrich steaks with chips for dinner. We cooked them rare. He asked if the red stuff on the plate was blood or Ostrich juice. Naturally we told him it was Ostrich juice. He was delighted to dip his chips in it! [Grin] He's 23 now and would never dream of ordering his steak anything other than rare!
