Tesco have left me with no money and no food.

Had an order due for delivery yesterday. £80 worth of food.

By 11.30 I had nothing and my online account said it had been delivered.

I called Tesco and they said the driver had attempted delivery at 10.05am

This isn't true because my front door is in my living room and I have 3 dogs that go ballistic if anyone even opens the gate. If he would have unloaded the crates and brought them to the door before knocking, like he does every week, then I would have heard!

So Tesco says they will try to get him to come back.

They didn't have his number. Then they couldn't get through to him.

So they then said they would try and redeliver by 11pm.

I would hear by 4pm if they could.

No one rang me back.

At half 4 I ring back.

Am told someone will ring me back by 6.30.

7pm. No ones rang.

I ring them back. They say my shopping will arrive by 2pm TODAY.

2.30PM
No shopping.

I ring tesco.

They said the store has no idea about any redelivery and they won't do it.

I have to get a refund processed, which can take upto 7 days to go back on my card.

Then I have to do a full new shop with the normal procedure.

I'm sat here with nothing in the fridge.
I can get a few meals out of what I have but the kids break up today so I've no lunches, snacks over the holidays. Nothing.

I don't have 80 quid to do another shop before the refund comes through.

I've asked them to reconsider and iif they can pick it I can borrow taxi money to click and collect instead.

AIBU to stick to my guns and refuse a refund?

I just want my shopping! :(

They are awful if they do not offer you some form of compensation for everything they have put you through. So much for trying to maintain customer loyalty.

Rowgtfc72 · 15/02/2020 08:49

I had a delivery once and the driver broke the eggs on the floor. He insisted on cleaning it up himself, couldn't apologise enough and I was sent 30 pounds of vouchers as well.
Definitely take it further.
I was a student for four years and can appreciate living hand to mouth. It has nothing to do with budgeting, if the money isn't there you cant buy food.
Good luck @ComeOnTesco Flowers

Blurpblorp · 15/02/2020 09:02

Definitely make the time to complain now while it's still fresh in your mind! How are you feeling this morning OP? Flowers

So relieved this is finally sorted OP, and fingers crossed for your delivery.

Once you have it I would definitely complain, send a list of all the failings:
Failure to deliver, with evidence of dogs not barking, no note, no call
Told it had been delivered
Failure to call you back as promised
Not being able to contact driver
Re-picking your shopping but not sending it out
2 days without fresh food/ fresh fruit veg.

Sorry you have had all this stress and worry.

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/02/2020 09:22

Glad you got it sorted OP. They should give you something as compensation though.

And bully for all the sanctimonious twats on this thread who’ve clearly never had struggle or worry about money for food.

Orchidflower1 · 15/02/2020 10:46

@ComeOnTesco
I totally get the budget thing op but regardless of whether you’re on 6 figures and ordering caviar you still had sh!t service.

RedRedBluee · 15/02/2020 12:29

Tesco isn’t shit tbh I worked there as a student and when I left they underpaid me by £500.
From speaking to other people I’m not the only person who had the same issue.

RedRedBluee · 15/02/2020 12:29

Is shit 🤦🏼‍♀️

ComeOnTesco · 15/02/2020 18:03

I'm going to make a complaint once my shopping arrives and also send them a link to this thread.

I will update you all.

Thanks again

That is so weird. Tesco have never been anything other than helpful when we have had delivery problems. Any time the driver has been late we have been given a £10 goodwill voucher without asking.

We've never had the situation you describe. I'd tweet or go higher up on phone.

Iflyaway · 15/02/2020 19:53

As a single working mother, I always make sure I have food in the house." Jeez... there are some sanctimonious people on this forum.^

FFS, what is sanctimonious about having been a lone parent from birth but making sure you and your kid are fed...(housed, clothed etc).

I guess the PP calling me sanctimonious has never been in that situation. It's called survival.

namechangin · 15/02/2020 20:27

@iflyaway because sometimes it doesn't matter how long you're a single mum if the money just isn't there and you're living week to week/month to month or whatever. I'm not saying you haven't struggled because I don't know you personally and there are always struggles with being a single parent. However the OP was trying to make sure there was food in, she clearly had at least an extra days food because she could wait until the next day to do the shop it was just the weeks food she didn't have especially considering it's half term and children always eat extra during holidays (if there's the food to do so). Your comment about always having food in didnt help the op either, it wasn't constructive it just came across as boasting that you're more organised/have more money.

MrsGrindah · 15/02/2020 20:41

We had this with ASDA and they just did not give a fuck. Never shopped there again

Orchidflower1 · 15/02/2020 20:45

@ComeOnTesco have you got shopping?

Elderflower14 · 17/02/2020 05:44

Bump... OP where are you???

Plumpplums · 17/02/2020 08:53

Bloody hell some people on here are nasty. It's not about being disorganised it's about having no spare money

ComeOnTesco · 17/02/2020 09:32

Yes I got my shopping with the voucher refund.

I haven't managed to write to anyone yet, not really sure what to say.
Might try and pen something later.

One word
DISGUSTED!

No wonder we shop at Aldi. We live near a huge megastore. It’s far too big for its boots, lots of shelves are half empty..or stuff is artistically places so it looks a bit more full.
They need to give you some meaningful compensation for the awful time they put you through and as for wanting to charge you twice in some other posters comments..that is just so wrong.
If they value you as a customer they will refund the cost of your shopping without question.
Get writing and direct them to this thread.

SW16 · 17/02/2020 10:00

I haven't managed to write to anyone yet, not really sure what to say.

See my post earlier!

Dear Customer Services,

I am writing to complain about a failure by Tesco to deliver as arranged which left me and my children without fresh food and essentials from (original delivery) to (eventual delivery). Because I had spent my money on the original shop I was unable to make other provision

This is a timeline and a list of the Tesco failures which occurred since I first complained:
(Full timeline and circumstances as in my previous post; present it as a list, use your posts on this thread to refresh your memory)

I appreciate the efforts that Customer Services made you resolve the situation by crediting me with vouchers , but in the meantime I was caused stress, had no fresh food for my children and spent significant time in the phone.

Having been a Tesco customer for X years, and wanting to continue with the delivery service I would like to know how you can re-assure me that this will not happen again and to consider a gesture in respect if the inconvenience and worry I have been caused.

I look forward to hearing from you.

rainbowstardrops · 17/02/2020 10:11

Glad you finally got your shopping! Bloody awful treatment and service though

ComeOnTesco · 17/02/2020 10:18

Thankyou SW. Appreciate that.

ComeOnTesco · 17/02/2020 15:01

I contacted customer services and this was the response.

I think I'm going to cancel my delivery saver and try elsewhere.
They're saying it like the £80 was compensation when it was simply MY money they were holding without getting my food to me.

Tesco have left me with no money and no food.

ffswhatnext · 17/02/2020 15:27

Oh wow she's clearly missed the whole point. I would message her back,

The Vouchers were in lieu of a refund for the missing delivery. Of course, I was happy, as it meant I was eventually able to get my shopping. Rather than putting customers into financial situations and failing to deliver goods, you should be looking at quicker options like e-voucher refunds as standard.

And had your colleagues refunded on Thursday as they should have, or even returned calls when they claimed to, we wouldn't have had to wait until the Saturday to get anything sorted. And how can a random member of MN be aware of this possibility but staff members totally unaware?

onyabikeivy · 17/02/2020 15:35

I've found Tesco useless when I've complained. Nothing like as bad as the situation you've been in op. But when my daughter had chicken pox I did click and collect, I'd ordered their stir fry deal (veg, sauce, noodles) when i collected it the veg part wasn't available and they didn't substitute, they told me I'd ticked the box to say no subs Confused I certainly hadn't so contacted head office explained the whole reason I'd done click and collect and they didn't seem to understand my point and dismissed my complaint.

OldEvilOwl · 17/02/2020 15:51

Shocking! I had similar with Asda but it was a bank holiday weekend so I had to wait even longer for my refund. They promised me a £10 or £20 voucher as compensation. I never got it
