Tesco have left me with no money and no food.

Had an order due for delivery yesterday. £80 worth of food.

By 11.30 I had nothing and my online account said it had been delivered.

I called Tesco and they said the driver had attempted delivery at 10.05am

This isn't true because my front door is in my living room and I have 3 dogs that go ballistic if anyone even opens the gate. If he would have unloaded the crates and brought them to the door before knocking, like he does every week, then I would have heard!

So Tesco says they will try to get him to come back.

They didn't have his number. Then they couldn't get through to him.

So they then said they would try and redeliver by 11pm.

I would hear by 4pm if they could.

No one rang me back.

At half 4 I ring back.

Am told someone will ring me back by 6.30.

7pm. No ones rang.

I ring them back. They say my shopping will arrive by 2pm TODAY.

2.30PM
No shopping.

I ring tesco.

They said the store has no idea about any redelivery and they won't do it.

I have to get a refund processed, which can take upto 7 days to go back on my card.

Then I have to do a full new shop with the normal procedure.

I'm sat here with nothing in the fridge.
I can get a few meals out of what I have but the kids break up today so I've no lunches, snacks over the holidays. Nothing.

I don't have 80 quid to do another shop before the refund comes through.

I've asked them to reconsider and iif they can pick it I can borrow taxi money to click and collect instead.

AIBU to stick to my guns and refuse a refund?

I just want my shopping! :(

Glad you are able to get your shopping tomorrow it's awful, I did an Asda shop last year it didn't turn up and then had to wait for a refund I was lucky enough that I could get a few bits from Iceland as I had £25 left but it I hadn't of had that I don't know what I would of done x

Orchidflower1 · 14/02/2020 20:03

@ComeOnTesco so glad you’re able to get shopping. Are they still giving you back the £80 you originally spent?

It’s shoddy service. I was thinking of giving Tesco a try as I’m hacked off with Sainsburys no carrier bag policy ( another story! ) but I’d rather try Asda instead. My neighbour has Asda every Friday at 8-9pm slot and it always rocks up.

GabsAlot · 14/02/2020 20:06

Glad it's sorted OP but after this poor treatment I'd start using another supermarket.

Rosieposy4 · 14/02/2020 20:08

Pleased they have at least sorted someway for you to get some food.
Tbh their customer service has always been shit, Quite a few years ago the tesco delivery woman drove into my gatepost and knocked it down ( oh I thought it was just a bush 🧐) despite her admitting liability immediately i had to email
/phone/ write to Tesco’s more than 30 times before they agreed to a repair, meanwhile I was living on a country road ( ie 60 mph speed limit) with 4 under 8s and a dog and no way of shutting the gate.

HitItAsHardAsYouCan · 14/02/2020 20:12

Tesco appears to be going down the drain; short dates on fresh items, low stock and poor variety. I’ve stopped shopping there.

You’ve been very gracious under horrible pressure Op. I hope your delivery is sorted tomorrow Flowers

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 20:13

Tesco doesn't have any bags either!
Which is really difficult.

No I won't get my refund still.

The vouchers were instead of the refund.

ffswhatnext · 14/02/2020 20:13

Glad you got it sorted.
Chances are they will email you an extra something. They’ve done it a few time’s for me and it’s not been mentioned on the phone.

And how fabulous it must be to have such perfect lives. Sometimes things happen out of our control. I remember one year, work had fucked up the wages, already spent money I had left for a delivery. Had no money and little food. Not a lot to be done really, and as the only adult in the house it was a miracle their was cash left at the end of the month.

Splenny · 14/02/2020 20:15

It’s happened to us before and it’s shit not having enough money to replace a whole shop.

I emailed the ceo and a lady sorted it out the next day. I got £50 on a gift card as an apology as the staff told me an awful lie about the delivery driver having an accident and how bad I should feel for moaning about my shopping not being delivered. The lady from the CEO’s office was so cross and told me it was a lie and nothing like that had happened.

CodenameVillanelle · 14/02/2020 20:16

I think you will get the refund too - they must have already processed it when they failed to deliver your shopping and I don't think they can recall a refund. Check your account.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 20:29

They said the refund had not been processed and won't be if I accept the vouchers.

Which is fair enough. No reason I should get the shop for free.

OP posts:
cstaff · 14/02/2020 20:34

There is every reason for you to get this shop for free after the way they have treated you today. It is the least they should do and whilst 80 quid is a lot to you it is fuck all to them.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 20:42

That's not how you make a fortune though!

I might email after delivery tomorrow

OP posts:
Mixingitall · 14/02/2020 20:43

I think you should get the shop for free.

They have caused unnecessary worry and stress, and inconvenienced you. It’s 24 hours late and you’ve been trying to resolve this.

Your time is valuable.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/02/2020 20:46

They will probably send you a complimentary voucher when they’ve had chance to process your complaint.

1forsorrow · 14/02/2020 20:48

I've got a good pension, money in the bank and I frequently end up with nothing in the cupboard and go shopping. I hate waste so don't buy more than I need, I shop a few times a week. Don't know why anyone would bother to comment on how much the OP has in her food cupboard, we all do things the way that suits us. When I was a young mum with no money to spare I was even more likely to have nothing in the cupboard. Anyway my philosophy is the more I buy the more DH eats and he's over weight as it is.

1forsorrow · 14/02/2020 20:50

OP glad you've got the money to do a shop but definitely push the complaint. I had a problem with Tesco once and I got a load of points, I was happy with that as you could get 4 times the value for things and I got a rail pass and some pizza express vouchers. Don't know what you get now as I don't live near a Tesco so shop elsewhere.

namechangin · 14/02/2020 21:01

Glad it's sorted! I don't use Tesco anymore because of the rude delivery driver, their ridiculous substitutions (cocktail sausages instead of a bag of frozen normal sausages!), and the food goes off within a couple of days. I hope there's somewhere else you can use that delivers, if you want to change supermarkets.
And I'm in a relationship with a baby, usually always have enough money to do a big shop and pick up extras in between but the last couple of weeks just haven't worked out and so we've been eating whatever weird concoctions we could find in the cupboards and freezer until today (luckily baby had enough food as I buy the Heinz tubs as back up but it's so much harder with older ones!). Don't listen to the posters who are clearly so perfect, you were organised and did a food shop, with extras to last over the holidays, and Tesco messed up so you were almost left short. Not your fault at all.

Heckythump1 · 14/02/2020 21:09

They cancelled my delivery due to a lack of staff once..... didn't even bother to tell me it wasn't coming and it was on a Sunday afternoon so had food until the next day!
Luckily they refunded straight away though.

justasking111 · 14/02/2020 21:11

Glad it is sorted now OP what a worry.

SmithfamilyRobinson · 14/02/2020 21:27

I am quite surprised at the inconsistency of Tesco's response: memorably our Christmas shop wasn't delivered a few years ago due to the weather - they definitely offered vouchers gratis to apologise (and they organised a click and collect). Yesterday only half the shopping arrived but I only realised when unpacking in the kitchen, I told the delivery driver I wouldn't have accepted the delivery thinking I'd need to ring and go through the whole order. He waived the cost of all the shopping I received, although DH said I did use my best Margot Leadbetter voice (memorable episode from The Good Life).

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 14/02/2020 21:29

1.6 million food bank parcels were given out during 2018-2019 according to the Trussell Trust website.
SO many people don’t have spare food or money. Have some sympathy please!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 14/02/2020 22:16

Well done, ComeOnTesco, you got a result in the vouchers for now, I hope that takes the pressure off until they can resolve this completely for you. Shocking lack of attention and concern from Tesco.

Orchidflower1 · 15/02/2020 06:46

@ComeOnTesco I can see why they gave the vouchers instead of the refund. But they still cocked up in a big way. You deserve something to compensate.

BodenGate · 15/02/2020 07:15

I hope you’re going to switch to another supermarket now!

Please try and complain if you can. You should be compensated for the distress and inconvenience caused.
