Tesco have left me with no money and no food.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 15:31

Had an order due for delivery yesterday. £80 worth of food.

By 11.30 I had nothing and my online account said it had been delivered.

I called Tesco and they said the driver had attempted delivery at 10.05am

This isn't true because my front door is in my living room and I have 3 dogs that go ballistic if anyone even opens the gate. If he would have unloaded the crates and brought them to the door before knocking, like he does every week, then I would have heard!

So Tesco says they will try to get him to come back.

They didn't have his number. Then they couldn't get through to him.

So they then said they would try and redeliver by 11pm.

I would hear by 4pm if they could.

No one rang me back.

At half 4 I ring back.

Am told someone will ring me back by 6.30.

7pm. No ones rang.

I ring them back. They say my shopping will arrive by 2pm TODAY.

2.30PM
No shopping.

I ring tesco.

They said the store has no idea about any redelivery and they won't do it.

I have to get a refund processed, which can take upto 7 days to go back on my card.

Then I have to do a full new shop with the normal procedure.

I'm sat here with nothing in the fridge.
I can get a few meals out of what I have but the kids break up today so I've no lunches, snacks over the holidays. Nothing.

I don't have 80 quid to do another shop before the refund comes through.

I've asked them to reconsider and iif they can pick it I can borrow taxi money to click and collect instead.

AIBU to stick to my guns and refuse a refund?

I just want my shopping! :(

I do sympathise but in all honesty do you normally run food supplies down so you have no food and yet have children and 3 dogs to feed?

This is very normal for a lot of people. They have no choice. Hence the panic for her. She had prepared as best she could with what she could afford. Its Tesco's fault shes in this situation. I think she had prepared well.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 16:21

The driver said he knocked on but didn't.

So just left.

How can I sign for something when no one even came to the door?

They took £80 for the shopping the morning of delivery.

So my bank is £80 down. That is my shopping money gone. I can't go to the supermarket.

If they refund it will take a week.

I'm a single mum. I don't have another 80 quid. I don't see what is hard to understand.

You must be very fortunate if you don't ever run out of food before you do a weekly shop.

Err no. She orders more shopping.

I have to laugh at these threads when people think that twitter is just some magical wand... Tesco dont even do their own social media marketing.. guess where the tweets end up: at the customer service team. OP is doing more by having a phone conversation with them than just tweeting.

It works for celebs but Danielle with 0 followers means nothing I'm afraid.

Highlandyak · 14/02/2020 16:29

I don't know who suggested emailing Dave Lewis! I cannot see Drastic Dave personally answering your email and it will take his PA a long time to get back to you on a Friday pm. He could be anywhere in the world- Tesco is a global company.
Everytime I have had a major issue with a company I've emailed the CEO and it's got escalated to a higher customer relations person very quickly, not a silly suggestion at all.

Tartyflette · 14/02/2020 16:29

A year or so ago we had a light smattering of snow, barely settled on the pavement or fields, let alone the road, but when i phoned Tesco in the afternoon to ask what had happened with my 1 pm delivery, i was blithely Informed it had been cancelled due to the terrible weather.

There was no explanation as to why i hadn't been told it was cancelled and when i asked if anyone would have informed me had i not actually phoned them to chase it -- tumbleweed.
I live outside the town where the store was located and not only were our roads clear, i could see traffic moving freely on the main road into the town. No weather warnings on the radio, nothing, it was really just a light flurry of snow.
But what really pissed me off was that they didn't take any responsibility for not telling me they had cancelled the order out of hand.
I haven't ordered from them since.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 14/02/2020 16:29

JinglingHellsBells what a pompous load of judgemental, pretentious irrelevance that was.

OP has paid for shopping that she didn't receive. It doesn't matter whether she has money more than that in the bank or not - she paid and is now in detriment. End of.

ComeOnTesco, I hope you'll get a response to that tweet as PP suggests you have. Fingers crossed for you.

Mydogmylife · 14/02/2020 16:30

@JinglingHellsBells

I don't see what's so hard to understand. Not everyone has a credit card for a start. Op has used her money to do a shop which has not arrived. She is not in a position to pay for her shopping twice while awaiting her refund. She did not 'allow' herself to run out of food, she was expecting her delivery which through no fault of her own did not arrive. Lucky you that you have enough cash on hand to pay for your weekly shop twice, not everyone is in that position.
Hope you get sorted soon op

TeaForTara · 14/02/2020 16:35

OP I've reported your post where you link the tweet as it shows your real name (presumably.) You might want to report it yourself.

bingbangbing · 14/02/2020 16:35

Twatting companies does actually work. I've done it a few times.

Hope they sort it soon

Igmum · 14/02/2020 16:36

Emailing ceos does work. Don't know about Tesco's but I've done it a couple of times when the standard complaints route doesn't solve a problem (Google provides the email address). Of course you don't get the ceo, but, in a fair few places you get a crack team of experienced problem solvers who will generally sort it for you. Good luck OP, it sounds grim 💐

ReflectiveGingernut · 14/02/2020 16:36

Seriously jingle? Are you that oblivious to how things are for other people? Not everyone can afford for £80 worth of food to go AWOL and just get something else at the drop of a hat.

It's nice that you're in a comfortable position where you can't understand that, but don't berate the OP. Nobody expects something like this from a large company that they've used before with no issues.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 16:37

Twatting companies 😂

crystal1717 · 14/02/2020 16:39

Harsh posts on here.
This is one of the reasons why I shop in person.

Hope you get it sorted OP. Can you get new food on a credit card? Not ideal but could be temporary solution.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 16:39

I've used tesco for years. One shop a week online.
This is the first issue I've had to be fair (apart from a few rotten items they've refunded immediately)
So I did actually expect them to get the shopping out to me asap

OP posts:
ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 16:40

I don't have a credit card.

I also don't drive. Hence the online shopping.
Plus health issues.

OP posts:
MissingMySleep · 14/02/2020 16:40

try twitter? often that gets a response

StrongTea · 14/02/2020 16:40

What a nightmare. Hope you get it sorted out.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 14/02/2020 16:40

I think the issue is that they're saying they tried to deliver so there is no reason for a goodwill gesture etc. (Not saying it is correct).

Hopefully they won't already have processed the refund

Inextremis · 14/02/2020 16:41

Tweeting companies does work, and emailing the CEO of Tesco does work - I had an issue with them a couple of years ago, and I asked for advice here on Mumsnet (under a different username) - took the advice to contact CEO and tweet, and lo and behold, the CEO's office was in touch, very apologetic, reversed a previous 'computer says no' decision, and ended up being extremely generous to me as a result. Go for it, OP, and best of luck!

QueenOfOversharing · 14/02/2020 16:43

I've just RTd your tweet. Hope they sort it. FWIW with arses saying tweeting doesn't work - categorically wrong. 🤞🏼

Mlou32 · 14/02/2020 16:43

OP phone tesco and ask them to cancel the refund and send you £80 worth of 'gesture of goodwill' tokens. Use these vouchers to cover the cost of your shopping. You can then place the order for delivery or collection at a time of our convenience.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 16:44

I understand that they said they tried to deliver but I'm certain they didn't.

I was sat here waiting. With my dogs. Who bark if the gate opens, never mind knock on the door.
It's impossible for anyone to walk passed the window without canine detection.

I'd be interested to find out of they have tracking or CCTV on their vans

I have gotten positive results with Facebook. PM Tesco there or see if you can post on their page.
