Tesco have left me with no money and no food.

Had an order due for delivery yesterday. £80 worth of food.

By 11.30 I had nothing and my online account said it had been delivered.

I called Tesco and they said the driver had attempted delivery at 10.05am

This isn't true because my front door is in my living room and I have 3 dogs that go ballistic if anyone even opens the gate. If he would have unloaded the crates and brought them to the door before knocking, like he does every week, then I would have heard!

So Tesco says they will try to get him to come back.

They didn't have his number. Then they couldn't get through to him.

So they then said they would try and redeliver by 11pm.

I would hear by 4pm if they could.

No one rang me back.

At half 4 I ring back.

Am told someone will ring me back by 6.30.

7pm. No ones rang.

I ring them back. They say my shopping will arrive by 2pm TODAY.

2.30PM
No shopping.

I ring tesco.

They said the store has no idea about any redelivery and they won't do it.

I have to get a refund processed, which can take upto 7 days to go back on my card.

Then I have to do a full new shop with the normal procedure.

I'm sat here with nothing in the fridge.
I can get a few meals out of what I have but the kids break up today so I've no lunches, snacks over the holidays. Nothing.

I don't have 80 quid to do another shop before the refund comes through.

I've asked them to reconsider and iif they can pick it I can borrow taxi money to click and collect instead.

AIBU to stick to my guns and refuse a refund?

I just want my shopping! :(

This is terrible. They should and could do the shop, deliver it and by pass the computer. All they have to do is print out your order instead if bringing it up on the shop and scan computer and shop from it without scanning it. It'll all balance at the end of the day.

They should have added at least £20 compensation without being asked.

I would pursue the matter and ask for compensation. Their treatment of you has been pathetic.

Shinycat · 14/02/2020 19:16

@ComeOnTesco It's sorted! They emailed me £80 of vouchers.

Sooooo, does that mean you won't get your refund then?

Feckinlego · 14/02/2020 19:17

Glad you got sorted op, but I would still be furious with them.

Arthritica · 14/02/2020 19:19

OP, do the additional shop then ask how they are going to recompense you for a wasted day of fighting to have THEIR ERROR resolved (still a day late and a dollar short)

In a much less vexatious situation I've had £15 from Waitrose and £20 from Sainsbury's

Kirksutherland · 14/02/2020 19:20

God op I hope your delivery for tomorrow turns up, what if it happens again, I'd have no faith in them after that. Hope it arrives tomorrow and agree they should have given you extra as an apology

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 14/02/2020 19:23

I'm really pleased they've come up with a solution for you OP.

Unfortunately now that I've read the thread I really want beans & cheese on toast.

CoffeeRunner · 14/02/2020 19:24

I’m happy for you that your problem has been resolved OP.

I had a similar thing with Asda a few years ago. From e-mailing the CEO I received my refund within 48 hours plus a £100 “goodwill” payment.

Anyone saying that tweeting or e-mailing CEO’s doesn’t work is a complete idiot. Yes of course the CEO isn’t personally dealing with you - but the matter will get dealt with.

Iflyaway · 14/02/2020 19:26

I do sympathise but in all honesty do you normally run food supplies down so you have no food and yet have children and 3 dogs to feed?

I agree.

As a single working mother, I always make sure I have food in the house.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 19:27

The £80 vouchers IS my refund.

But in voucher form instead of to my bank so it's available immediately.

I have my shop rebooked for 7pm tomorrow night 🤞🤞🤞

Jeez... there are some sanctimonious people on this forum.

Poptasmagorical · 14/02/2020 19:31

Well bully for you, @Iflyaway
Op wouldn't have been without food if the delivery had turned up as planned - as it does every other time it's expected - but if you're happy to make it seem like a non-driver with health issues is at fault for someone else being a prick, go for it. You do you. Apparently you do it perfectly.

CatkinToadflax · 14/02/2020 19:34

Massive well done OP. Flowers

Back in the days of Tesco Direct I ordered a TV for home delivery. The day of the delivery came and went and no sign of it. When I phoned to ask what had happened, firstly they said the guy had knocked and I wasn’t in (I was in, and my house was of the size where I could hear a knock or the doorbell from anywhere); and then they decided that in fact they had delivered it and indeed I’d signed for it. They refused to believe that I didn’t have it. I told them they were very welcome to come round for a cup of tea and see for themselves the corner of my living room where the TV wasn’t. They then decided that actually, because I wasn’t in, they’d delivered it to a neighbour who’d signed for it. Which neighbour, I asked, because I hadn’t had a card through the door. Number 43, I was told. Which was intriguing, because I lived at number 6, so not only did number 43 seem a desperately random choice, but there were only 16 houses in the road. At this point they decided that perhaps it hadn’t been number 43, it could have been “number 4 or number 3”. Sorry, I said, this is a brand new new-build estate and number 4 and number 3 are both currently empty. At this point they gave up. It still took another week for the replacement tv to arrive though.

Legoandloldolls · 14/02/2020 19:34

I have had Tesco not deliver three times in row so I gave up on them for two years. The last time they gave me £20 vouchers as a apology as well as a refund. I found that if I delivered after 10pm I had no chance of ever getting my shopping. Who knows why? I suspect they just ran out of time and went back to the store but I never got a proper explanation

quietlyspoken08 · 14/02/2020 19:34

Glad you are sorted. I would be in the exact same situation if it happened to me not all of us are lucky enough to have cash flow at all times to sort out these problems which were caused by no error of your own!

Cohle · 14/02/2020 19:35

God almighty some people are unkind. The OP has enough for "a few meals" and had ordered a shop that she had every reason to believe would arrive on time.

No everyone can afford to keep a pantry full of quinoa at all times Hmm

VirtualHamster · 14/02/2020 19:36

Fingers crossed they deliver. I'm not sure I would have trusted to place the order and wait in for the delivery again, especially given the weather warnings.

dognamedspot · 14/02/2020 19:41

Yep, repeated delivery problems is why I stopped using their delivery service. And as there isn't a Tesco very close, I stopped using them pretty much at all.

Saranvenya · 14/02/2020 19:45

'As a single working mother, I always make sure I have food in the house.'
FFS talk about smug!
The OP was making sure she had food or are you unable to read? So to summerise for you ... she ordered food and through no fault of her own it wasn't delivered HTH .

Gonetoget · 14/02/2020 19:46

Can't believe some of the posters on here. Some people live pay check to pay check, are you that far removed from reality that you can't comprehend that not everyone has friends and family, a flexible friend, or a savings accounts to fall back on when you're skint.
That your cupboards might be empty whilst you wait on a payment and you might restock them when you have money.
Unbelievable the bubble some people must live in. Perhaps the op could have taken a spa day and asked the cleaner to sort it out whilst she was at it.

ComeOnTesco · 14/02/2020 19:53

I'm glad some posters have no idea what it's like to live this way. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

If they have never experienced something like this then all I can do is be happy for them!

Fantastic! I'm so pleased that you've got a solution. Hopefully that delivery will turn up...
