After 12 years of marriage. Very sad.

My grandmother loved all of us equally. She is/would have been the same age as the Queen but she died 5 years ago..
She would never criticise any of us. Apparently, in her day, she was well able to give a skelp (according to my Dad).
I don't think she would be particularly perturbed about any of our broken relationships. She did pray for us all (me particularly lol). When I think of it, I was the only unmarried single mother among her grandchildren.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 08:40

Only three of us were girls. And about 15 boys. So there was me and my sister and my cousin who is lesbian but they never told my grandmother that. My sister was quite young when I became a single parent. We were quite close and she adored my dd. Loved to see us come visiting. I really miss her.

Squigean · 11/02/2020 08:40

"Yes, she converted from Catholicism to C of E to preserve Peter’s place in the succession.

Doesn’t quite chime with ‘egalitarian Anne rejects titles for her kids’, does it? That place in the succession comes in quite handy when you are punting for directorships of race courses (Zara) or pretend jobs designing F1 sponsorship programmes for banks (Peter)."

Ah, I see. I couldn't figure out at the time why she needed to change seeing he was so far down the line. Struck me as very 'you must change yourself to be with me, I'm giving up nothing though' (mind you at the time much was made of her not being a practicing catholic and it being no big deal.

Dont recallg her being Canadian at the time they got married, but that adds to the fact she also had agree that she'd always live away from her home country. Lots of adjustment from her!! She won't be able to move back with her children without an agreement.

That aside, they've both very good looking

AndaLuciAnn · 11/02/2020 08:45

My mind immediately went to the South Park movie song when I saw this thread
‘Blame Canada’.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/02/2020 08:48

"When Canada is gone/there'll be no more Céline Dion"!!

AudacityOfHope · 11/02/2020 08:51

I find it so weird that a couple are divorcing and people go 'aw, how terrible for the Gran' Confused

lowlandLucky · 11/02/2020 09:04

Such a shame

Iamthewombat · 11/02/2020 09:08

Autumn leaves!

They were some sort of pop stars or something, weren't they?

I can’t let either of these contributions go unacknowledged. Hat doffed!

Allergictoironing · 11/02/2020 09:10

Yestermost that may be an age thing, I'm assuming you're 30's or under? As Princess Anne (recognised as the hardest working Royal) was in the news regularly in the 70's and 80's. Olympic competitor, multiple European medallist, infamous for telling reporters to "naff off" when they were pestering her when she was getting ready at an event.

There was also a kidnap attempt, which was front page news for a while.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 09:16

Anne was very Princess like in her interview about her attempted kidnapping. She was recounting the story about her guard getting shot as if it was a fly who had been quashed. A very strange woman.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 09:19

Pop a potato in your mouth and repeat after me

Well, of course, he was shot. And he was shot again.

Remove said potato from your mouth. Was she being a brave princess or was she acting like a bit of a princess?

Squigean · 11/02/2020 09:31

A baking potato or a new one?

lyralalala · 11/02/2020 09:33

I know you lose your place in the succession if you become a Catholic (as have some of the Kents) but I thought they scrapped the "can't marry a Catholic and keep your place" thing? Or perhaps that was only after Peter and Autumn married.

The change of not losing your place if you marry a catholic only happened in 2013

halcyondays · 11/02/2020 09:37

If anyone has a spare £15-20k to spend, a medal awarded to one of the people who intervened in the kidnapping attempt is to be auctioned next month. I hadn’t realised there’d been so many who had tried to stop the kidnapper.

lynsey91 · 11/02/2020 09:38

It's sad that yet another marriage with children has broken down. Whether divorce is common or not it's still sad when children are involved.

So much divorce in the Royal Family. Three out of four of The Queen's children divorced.

I knew who they are and could name all the Queen's children, their spouses (ex or current), their children too. I could also name a large number of current actors, singers, reality starts etc. I am obviously a complete airhead!

Bluerussian · 11/02/2020 10:02

I just read a bit about them on MSN. Apparently Peter is devastated, he didn't see it coming. Autumn has not been happy for a while, I suppose he just didn't notice (not uncommon), thought he had the perfect family.

Oh well, marriage break ups are not such a big deal these days, as long as they both care for their children which I'm sure they will. They always struck me as a nice couple, now they can be nice singles.

Yeah, there were several people passing by. One was an amateur boxer ! Mark Phillips just sat in the car like a jelly. Ann was the one dealing with the situation.

The staff and people who tried to help got a medal. The Queen said to one of the medal recipients, 'this is for assisting Princess Ann and also a thank you from her Mother.'

Annasgirl · 11/02/2020 10:15

I wonder did she post on here for advice and we all told her to LTB?????

ToEarlyForDecorations · 11/02/2020 10:15

Former heavyweight Ronnie Russell, 72, punched Ian Ball in the head as he tried to abduct the princess at gunpoint in London in 1974.

Noodlenosefraggle · 11/02/2020 13:15

I wonder if she's been homesick.for a while and he has said we can't move because of my family and I'm 17th in line to the throne. Then she saw Harry put his wife and child before his family and thought bugger putting up with this bunch of weirdos. Otherwise it would be a bit b silly to end v your marriage because you're homesick without even along of your b husband fancies moving. It's hardly as if v they wouldn't be able to afford flights home!

Clangus00 · 11/02/2020 13:24

Apparently they told the Queen and their families last year and already is divorce proceedings...so definitely nothing to do with Harry & Meghan.

HelgaHere1 · 11/02/2020 17:29

They are remaining in Gloucestershire to share upbringing of children.

ssd · 11/02/2020 17:43

Sad news

Iamthewombat · 11/02/2020 19:26

Marry someone clever next time, Autumn!

ForalltheSaints · 11/02/2020 19:41

Sad but at least they are not fighting over their children it seems.
