After 12 years of marriage. Very sad.

I’m waiting for somebody to chime in with ‘I’ve never heard of the queen’ one day. Please let that happen.

Whoops75 · 11/02/2020 00:20

Things were easier for the royals when they married for the crown.
The trend for marrying commoners hasn’t gone well for them.

BilboBercow · 11/02/2020 00:32

Meghan had never heard of Harry she didn't know who he was! Remember?
I hear that said here a lot but she didn't actually say that did she? She said something about being American, she didn't grow up with the same understanding of the royal family (and how much of a big deal they are here). When people repeat, what's basically a lie, it just shows the level of distortion there is around MM.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 01:05

It's weird how, when it comes to the Royal Family, so many people like to extol their ignorance as if it were a virtue.

No, it's a mere observation, that since I wasn't aware of their existence in the first place, why the bloody hell would a give a shit that they had split up!
Might I add, that my ignorance of extended members of the royal family, does not extend to my overall ignorance. I have more important things to concern my day with than Horse & Hound or whatever ghastly publication has ever mentioned this pair.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 01:09

Mind you, I do wonder about my ignorance at times and the extensiveness of it. For e.g. when watching that great British Show The Unmasked Singer, I usually have no idea who the people they guess the singer to be is either! Who the fuck knows the name of every singer in Little Mix?

Not sure George IV would agree with you on that...

Valanice1989 · 11/02/2020 01:20

I never understand why people post on threads just to say "Who?" or "Never heard of them". This doesn't just apply to MN, but all over the Internet. If I see a thread about someone I've never heard of, I don't open it. If I'm curious as to who they are, I Google it.

managedmis · 11/02/2020 01:23

Agreed.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 01:50

@Valanice1989 It's shorthand for 'Who are they and why should I care?'. Thought I might be missing something! Wouldn't be a first. As it is, I really don't care, have never heard of them, never seen them in the news, they are as known to me as Joe Bloggs down the road.

Andylion · 11/02/2020 01:51

It's because she's from Canada no doubt. She's form Oakville Ontario which is about 30 minute drive to downtown Toronto (where Meghan lived for 7 years filming Suits).

I thought she was from Montreal.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 01:52

What is because she's from Canada? Why they've split up?

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 01:55

They've probably split up for the usual reason i.e. that one of them was having an affair.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/02/2020 02:02

I’ve never heard of the queen

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/02/2020 02:03

There you go wombat Grin. Though incidentally, I did once work with someone who claimed to have never heard of Elvis.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 02:10

I just googled them and can safely say that I have never once seen them before.

pallisers · 11/02/2020 03:23

yeah loads of people mentioned on MN that fall into this category for me - all the dancing on ice/dancing with the stars/reality tv/presenters on UK tv. I don't live in the UK so don't encounter them.

I don't bother commenting on the threads about them though. I kind of feel it is of no interest to anyone that I don't know who they are talking about.

lasttimeIplaythetartforUJerry · 11/02/2020 05:44

Ok nothingwrong there's no need to keep banging us over the fucking head with it.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 05:52

The reason I clicked on the thread, was A Someone felt it newsworthy enough to post it, so I figured it might be something I should know about and B I saw Philip and thought it was something to do with Phillip Schofield or something. I came, saw, observed and felt it necessary to declare that I had no clue who these people are, so that people wouldn't post uninteresting articles in the future! Of course, if it's interesting to some of you fair enough!

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 06:01

It's like when I ring my father at home.

Dad: I'm just on my way to a funeral
Me: Oh - who died?
Dad: Paddy Joe from the Hill. You'd remember him.
Me: No, can't say that I do. How do you know him?
Dad: Well I was good friends with his brother there for years
Me: Oh so you've never met the man
Dad: Ye, so any craic with you?

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 06:04

This is a bit like that. Random gossip about someone you've never heard of. Ever notice that gossip is never good?

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 06:07

The gossip I hear from other people is always about someone down on their luck. You never hear 'oh, Billybob got a massive new contract'. You'll hear that 'oh Billybob went bankrupt and the banks are closing in on him' however.

Lol.

Whatever keeps you amused I guess.

lasttimeIplaythetartforUJerry · 11/02/2020 06:11

Nope, still banging on. And this, seriously? "felt it necessary to declare that I had no clue who these people are, so that people wouldn't post uninteresting articles in the future! Of course, if it's interesting to some of you fair enough!"

TheNavigator · 11/02/2020 06:25

This is comedy gold Grin

HelgaHere1 · 11/02/2020 06:36

I think part of the problem is HMQ living so long.

If she had gone the new Royals (not PC as he is too out of date and out of touch) could have given the RF a good shake down and reduced duties, reduced tax payer paid income so they are more dependent on their own wealth. Perhaps the being head of the Church of England could be tweaked. And they could have a 'normal' life for much of the time instead of constant attention. The lack of respect now and cruel media treatment is not worth the supposedly privileged life. Personally, opening hospitals, giving out medals is soul destroying as a career.
Probably once she's gone Aus and Canada will decide not to have her next in line as their Head of State. Seems likely.

Peter doesn't seem to have had a 'normal' life as it looks like his position has given him plum roles, but perhaps that is an advantage for Formula One when raising sponsorship, having a royal, who knows.

NothingWrong · 11/02/2020 06:37

Why thank you. Always thought of myself as a bit of a comedian...
