I'm disappointed beyond belief, was a huge fan but no more.
Why do we find out after their death.
He was also a paedo, I hope they stop playing his music now.
Who has disappointed you?

OP posts:
BrokenWing · 22/01/2020 13:24

link on the Bowie "news"?

Samcro · 22/01/2020 13:25

Bowie hasn't disappointed me. his music was brilliant.

Aquilla · 22/01/2020 13:27

What?

Drabarni · 22/01/2020 13:27

It's not news, Sad
Playboy Magazine, MTV, and even Rock against Racism.
Eric Clapton also, but I wasn't a fan of his.

Google will show you articles.

Ant Middleton from SAS tv show- he was jailed for assaulting male and female police officers.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2020 13:31

Google will show you articles.

Or you could explain.

Drabarni · 22/01/2020 13:32

samcro

Then you openly support a racist, known for nazi salutes and fan of Hitler.
I'll never play his music again.
I have vinyl all going in the bin, from 1960's to last album.

I am not interested in googling. If you are stating this as fact where is YOUR evidence?

ColaFreezePop · 22/01/2020 13:33

Famous people are people. Like lots of people they have views which they can change.

I doubt David Bowie had the same views in 1979 as he did in 1992 when he married Iman.

BrokenWing · 22/01/2020 13:35

Alleged nazi salute. It was always denied as a photo caught mid wave.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2020 13:35

Then you openly support a racist, known for nazi salutes and fan of Hitler.

You might want to google that yourself.

He later retracted and apologised for his statements, blaming them on a combination of an obsession with occultism and Friedrich Nietzsche, as well as his excessive drug use at the time. He said: "I have made my two or three glib, theatrical observations on English society and the only thing I can now counter with is to state that I am NOT a fascist."

Plus he always claimed the so called "nazi salut " was just how the photographer caught him mid wave.

None of this is new.

Samcro · 22/01/2020 13:35

bollocks, i like his music. If we stopped playing music just because of something the singer did, we would end up with nothing.
there are a lot of singers that have done things they most likely regret,
but music is still music and to be enjoyed.
if you want to throw away some brilliant music .....your choice.

AlaskaElfForGin · 22/01/2020 13:37

Why all of a sudden are you posting this, then telling people to Google? Of you were a fan of his, presumably you knew a bit about him so it's fair to assume that you have new information. Which you don't seem to want to share, which is odd.

AlaskaElfForGin · 22/01/2020 13:37

Oh and Google is hardly full of completely accurate information.

Enb76 · 22/01/2020 13:40

Everyone disappoints if looked at too closely, there is no such thing as a perfect human being. Pretty sure Bowie wasn't a racist. This is an interesting discussion on the Wikipedia entry.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2020 13:40

Here are two photos. One is the so called "nazi salute" and one is where he is waving with the other hand. They are just waves caught at different moments - still photos are dreadful for that kind of thing.

I have vinyl all going in the bin, from 1960's to last album.

I'll have it if you don't want it.

ioioitsoff · 22/01/2020 13:41

OP, are you perfect ?

BentNeckLady · 22/01/2020 13:45

Hmm u you ours not actually being serious are you @Drabarni?

SquatBetty · 22/01/2020 13:47

What SoupDragon said, plus he was living in Berlin at the time which may have contributed to his views (but suspect mostly it was the massive drug use).

feelingverylazytoday · 22/01/2020 13:51

Nile Rodgers said that David Bowie was the least racist person he'd ever met. I think I'll take his word over yours, you numbskull.
Why don't you check out his interview on MTV, where he advocates for black artists. Or the fact that he worked with numerous black musicians for most of his career. Why don't you ask Tina Turner if he was racist, or his wife of 24 years, his mixed race daughter, his Asian American daughter in law.

potter5 · 22/01/2020 13:53

First photo a wave, second one definitely looks like a Nazi salute.

feelingverylazytoday · 22/01/2020 13:54

potter5 the photographer said it wasn't a salute.

karencantobe · 22/01/2020 13:55

What about Morissey? Burst onto the music scene as a flower waving vegan then revealed himself to be a massive racist.

BrokenWing · 22/01/2020 13:56

While we are waiting for @Drabarni to come up with some actual evidence...

My favorite Bowie is Life on Mars, but also Ashes to Ashes up there, cant help signing along with the line "We know Major Tom's a junkie", whole song is brilliant. And relevant to this thread, where he is admitting/addressing his own problems with drug use and becoming a different person.
