Help- cleaner drank my gin!

Hi all,
I’m new to mumsnet, but would really love some advice!

I’ve just signed up to a cleaning company and had my first clean, which I was thrilled about.
Then I noticed that half of my bottle of pink drink has gone!
I only got the bottle given to me as a gift last week from my sister in law.
My Dh doesn’t drink and I have my two ds in the house.
It was the cleaner definitely!
The company have been awful at getting back to me and sent me a poor email saying she said she didn’t drink it Hmm and was too early in the morning.

I feel really gutted and not sure how to move forward or get some sort of justice!!

Had you drunk any of it? Any chance you wildly underestimated how much you’d had?

Much more likely to be the 13 yo though tbh.

anon2000000000 · 19/01/2020 11:03

I'm more surprised that no one thought to fill it up with water to make it look full again.

But then 13 year olds don't think like that the first time they nick booze.

Apolloanddaphne · 19/01/2020 11:03

I would be chatting to the 13yo. I used to steal spirits out my parents drinks stash around that age. I was clever enough just to take a little out each bottle and mixed it all together. It tasted rank but still me and my mates drank it!

AJPTaylor · 19/01/2020 11:04

Blimey.
I am struggling to picture a cleaner necking half a bottle of gin.
Not struggling to picture a 13 year old, who should at least have been bright enough to top it up with water.

JustHereWithPopcorn · 19/01/2020 11:04

At 13 I used to sneak my parents alcohol and fill it back up with water Grin

Greysparkles · 19/01/2020 11:05

Pisses me off how cleaners get blamed for literally everything.

Misplaced money.... It must have been the cleaner
Kid drunk your gin....it must have been the cleaner
Smashed vase.... Must have been the cleaner
Missing Jo malone candle.... Must be the cleaner

plunkplunkfizz · 19/01/2020 11:05

I’m surprised you immediately though it had been stolen by the cleaner. Not ideal by any means but perhaps she was having a sniff or cleaning around it and spilled a few big glugs. Or you poured yourself a few doubles instead of singles. Or your 13 year old sneaked some.

Thestrangestthing · 19/01/2020 11:05

It was the 13 year old

84claire84 · 19/01/2020 11:06

This is most definitely your son or one of his friends. Why would you not even consider it?

Itsallgonewoowoo · 19/01/2020 11:06

I wouldn't assume the cleaner either with a 13 yr old in the house

DoloresTheDonkey · 19/01/2020 11:06

It took me a while to realise I should be topping the bottles back up with water. When my father realised he was drinking 75% proof water I knew I'd been busted Grin

finnmcool · 19/01/2020 11:07

Me and my mates used to nick my dad's poitin at that age.

puds11 · 19/01/2020 11:07

I love that you think it was more likely the cleaner than the 13 yo! Surely the cleaner would have had the smarts to fill it back up with water Wink

YappityYapYap · 19/01/2020 11:08

OP, do you really believe that your cleaner drank half a bottle of straight gin while doing a morning clean at your house then drove her car to another house or home while drunk? Or do you think it's more feasible that your 13 year old son poured it into a plastic bottle and took it out for him and his friends to have a few swigs?

BaolFan · 19/01/2020 11:08

Far more likely to be the 13 y/o.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 19/01/2020 11:09

Unlikely to be the 13 year old - much more likely to be a pretty hardened alcoholic who would be able to function perfectly well on half a bottle of gin. However, extremely remiss of them not to cover their tracks by filling the bottle up with water.

I'm not condoning this AT ALL but afraid it's not an unusual event in the life of an alcoholic faced with temptation that they maybe were not expecting. However, without hidden cameras you have zero proof so you'll have to write off the gin, I'm afraid.

Cohle · 19/01/2020 11:09

I'm struggling to imagine a 13 year old drinking half a bottle of gin and not being very unwell/ obviously drunk.

BaolFan · 19/01/2020 11:10

Cohle more likely he decanted some into a bottle and took it to share with mates.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2020 11:10

I'm struggling to imagine a 13 year old drinking half a bottle of gin and not being very unwell/ obviously drunk.

How about a 13 year old sneaking some out to share with their mates?

I'll admit that the 13 year old is unlikely (mine wouldn't have done it) but it isn't beyond the realms of possibility as I know some who would have done it.

EnidBlyton · 19/01/2020 11:12

will you get a different cleaner now?
and lock your spirits away

OhMeows · 19/01/2020 11:13

Schoolboy error.

You go for the clear spirits that you can top up with water.

SarahTancredi · 19/01/2020 11:13

I'm pretty sure half a bottle of gin would be enough to leave a 13 year old brain damaged or even dead. It takes surprisingly little to do severe damage to a childs body.

Unless hes been drinking for months and you haven't noticed your vodka going down or your ds puking up then the cleaner would very least he a suspect

EnidBlyton · 19/01/2020 11:14

agree he possibly decanted it to share

MellowMelly · 19/01/2020 11:14

Sorry but I remember my 13 year old and my ex partners daughter had a good old slurp (over half a mini keg) of my ex partners scrumpy jack and refilled what they had drunk back up with water.
They did this after we had gone to bed. I never would of known had my daughter not confessed about two weeks later when ex partner poured himself a glass and it tasted awful Smile

Also I was encouraged to nick some alcohol from my parents when I was about 14 and take it to the local park where my friends were hanging out. I went for the gin.
