Help- cleaner drank my gin!

Hi all,
I’m new to mumsnet, but would really love some advice!

I’ve just signed up to a cleaning company and had my first clean, which I was thrilled about.
Then I noticed that half of my bottle of pink drink has gone!
I only got the bottle given to me as a gift last week from my sister in law.
My Dh doesn’t drink and I have my two ds in the house.
It was the cleaner definitely!
The company have been awful at getting back to me and sent me a poor email saying she said she didn’t drink it Hmm and was too early in the morning.

I feel really gutted and not sure how to move forward or get some sort of justice!!

Are you sure you haven't drunk it OP. I wouldn't worry about your cleaner coming back, if I was her I wouldn't be back to clean for you now any way. So it's win win for you isn't it?

chris8888 · 19/01/2020 11:29

Justice for half a bottle of gin lol, get a grip and look close to home.

AriadnesFilament · 19/01/2020 11:29

Why is it so logical for the kid to have thought to decant it but not the cleaner? 🤔

I have no idea who’s nicked it, but the logic being displayed here is inconsistent at best.

Skyejuly · 19/01/2020 11:29

I used to sneak whisky from home and sell it at school for a fiver at 13. Sadly my efforts at business didnt last Grin

I think it could be the cleaner too!

Itwasntme1 · 19/01/2020 11:32

Just to clarify , the bottle is still there just half it’s contents are gone?

I don’t think you will ever be able to prove this. The company is right to stand up for its staff member, they have no way of knowing who drank the gin, or if you are even telling the truth. Unless there have been other issues with this lady are probably assuming someone else drank it and it’s convenient to blame the cleaner.

Let it go. Get a new cleaning company in (this lady Hates you now).

kjhkj · 19/01/2020 11:34

Oh come on. My BF arrived home from book club a few weeks ago to find her 14 year old DS very worse for wear after consuming way too much gin. The new years eve party we were at this year had a group of 13 year old boys sneaking gin (the hosts made the fatal error of putting the alcohol out next to the soft drinks in the utility room..)

Sorry but its far more likely to have been your DS at age 13.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/01/2020 11:34

Not to be goady but what makes you so sure it isn’t the 13 year old?
It’s easy to decant some into a plastic bottle to share with friends.

Yes it could be the cleaner, but I think it’s less likely. Was the gin in a cupboard she was likely to be going in or was it on the side where it was in plain view?

IamAporcupine · 19/01/2020 11:35

This.

TheGinGenie · 19/01/2020 11:35

Why can't it have been your DH? I know he "doesn't drink" but it is still a possibility

Bluntness100 · 19/01/2020 11:35

If the cleaner was an alcoholic she'd not just have drunk the ops gin, she'd be drinking every clients booze. And unable to function properly if she's downing half a bottle of gin at the crack of dawn. Let's face it.

It wasn't the cleaner, it's someone in the house. So either the thirteen year old, or the husband.

So again why doesn't he drink?

Changeembrace · 19/01/2020 11:36

It’s your distress at the loss of half a bottle of gin that speaks volumes to me

kayde12 · 19/01/2020 11:36

She won’t be coming back.

Yes it cannot be proven but just feels crappy for me that this has happened. It’s not really about the gin, rather the principal.

Trust is broken now. You live and you learn.

@BiscuitBarrels because the cleaner would have a lot more to loose, I.e. her job, whereas a 13 yo boy would get in a bit of trouble but really it makes no difference to him. Also the cleaner can easily go buy her own gin, a 13 yo boy can’t.

AiryFairyMum · 19/01/2020 11:36

Your 13 year old has taken some in another bottle to share with mates. We did the same with sherry (bleurgh!) When we were his age. We thought we were so cool drinking it in the park. My mum never found out.

AiryFairyMum · 19/01/2020 11:37

You owe your cleaner an apology.

kayde12 · 19/01/2020 11:37

@Changeembrace

I’m not sure where you’re getting an impression of distress

* I feel really gutted and not sure how to move forward or get some sort of justice!!*

PhilSwagielka · 19/01/2020 11:39

I bet the teen did it.

tinierclanger · 19/01/2020 11:39

Ludicrous that you suspect the cleaner over the 13 year old. WAY more likely that he decanted it.

Changeembrace · 19/01/2020 11:39

“Help”

Muckycat · 19/01/2020 11:39

Biscuitbarrel it isn't impossible that she did, but she has a lot more to lose (job, income, reputation, references, clean DBS- not sure she would be charged but theft is a criminal offence) than a teenager, who as an age group are well known for this kind of thing.

She could be a serious alcoholic or compulsive thief. I don't know the percentage of adults who have these issues but I would guess it was lower than that of teenagers who help themselves to booze from home occasionally. I think that is why people feel this may be a more likely answer.

BettyAll1 · 19/01/2020 11:40

13 year old has poured some into another bottle to share with his mates. School boy error that he didn’t top the bottle up with water afterwards. The bottle might still be in his bedroom.

Sally872 · 19/01/2020 11:40

Was the bottle unopened? If not I expect you have drunk more than you thought.

Changeembrace · 19/01/2020 11:40

* just feels crappy for me that this has happened*

So actually e re ally quite evident you are “distressed”

1Wildheartsease · 19/01/2020 11:40

More likely your 13yr old taking it to friends. This is a thing at school!

(Obviously, ou would notice if he had drunk it all but not if he transported it secretly to impress at school.)

Unlikely to be the cleaner - who needs to impress you and to keep this job (also, if this adult was a thief -more likely to cover the theft ).
