Which Star Trek ship would you like to serve on?

I love Star Trek and am looking forward to the new series Star Trek Picard on Amazon next week.

I’ve been thinking about which ship I would like to serve on. Tbh it is easy, Voyager!

I’m sure I’m not the only Trek fan (I’m not a Trekkie) here. Let’s see which is the most popular vessel.

Any bloody Cardassians out there can bugger off now.

Oh that sounds lovely. Will have to see if it's on Youtube.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/01/2020 12:53

Does anyone know when/how access to Picard will be available if you haven't got amazon prime? We've used our free trial subscriptions already (mine was for Good Omens)

motherofmenaces · 23/01/2020 12:56

This thread has made me very happy

Enterprise D for me, under Picard. I have a pet named "Q" most people think it's relating to James Bond. Anyone who says "ah Star Trek" I know immediately is a keeper ha!

I do love Voyager, could watch it for days Blush

How did they lose such a high proportion of the crew in Star Trek Enterprise???

Did I miss an episode featuring a massacre???

I suppose that Voyager figure includes the crew killed in the first episode?

Becca19962014 · 23/01/2020 18:20

Because Enterprise was set before the prime directive or any directives for that matter were in place and they, frankly, "stupidly went where no man and gone before and probably would be able to go again" killing off many crew as they figured that out. They also didn't have an half decent weapons because as a ship of exploration they could see no need; nor did they see the need for a captains chair that was comfortable.

I mean seriously. Even cave men knew better than to wander in to unknown territory without a decent stick to defend themselves from predators. But not Enterprise. And yes I know it launched early, no excuse for no decent defensive weapons.

However, they did have a very cute dog. I know he wasn't popular amongst everyone but he was with me Grin

Becca19962014 · 23/01/2020 18:21

Probably wouldnt be able to go again!!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 23/01/2020 18:28

But NX Enterprise didnt have a big crew. After all those deaths it would have been a ghost ship and Archer sacked for being a shit Captain.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 23/01/2020 18:45

Katherine oh how lovely!

Becca19962014 · 23/01/2020 19:30

They grew new crew obviously! Grin

SanFranBear · 23/01/2020 21:54

Whilst I wait until midnight on the off chance Picard launches then Grin, I am going to start watching Voyager as I never got into it before but got a couple of hours to kill and this many MN'ers can't be wrong!

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 23/01/2020 22:53

I think the main problem with voyager is that it reverted to being very episodic, which a lot of fans felt was a step back in comparison to the brilliantly planned out full story arc of DS9.

Awrite · 24/01/2020 07:13

I've just checked Amazon - just one episode of Picard. However, it's only a 12 certificate which means my whole family can watch. A Friday night treat.

SanFranBear · 24/01/2020 07:56

I watched last night at midnight and I was utterly blown away! Truly everything I wanted and a bit more. Sir Patrick is just wonderful and the story seems, at this point so so strong.

I would urge you all to watch if you can - its like putting on a favourite pair of pjs!

KatherineJaneway · 24/01/2020 09:08

I watched it this morning, simply brilliant. Can't wait for the next episode!

TheFaerieQueene · 24/01/2020 09:29

I watched Picard at 1:30 this morning - thanks insomnia- it is brilliant.

I wonder if my love for Voyager is going to be tested by Star Trek Picard.

Certainly did deviate from some of the ideas I had from the trailer

banivani · 24/01/2020 09:43

So jealous of you all!

Was so pleased that Whoopi was invited to join the show - I really liked Guinan's character (I mean, parts were a bit naff but then it's ST, parts of all of it are naff so). I think Whoopi is a good actress too, she brought something to the show. STNG got lucky with Patrick Stewart because there are a fair few mediocre actors on there and IMO he elevated them and helped them be better. Whoopi was one of the better ones on the programme.

TheFaerieQueene · 24/01/2020 09:44

I can’t wait to see how the other original characters are worked into the plot. I’m so glad it appears to be so good. A tiny piece of me was worried that it might disappoint. As long as William Shatner is left on his weird time stream, then all is going to be good.

It will be interesting to see if the next series is a continuation or if they will go with a new scenario.

TheFaerieQueene · 24/01/2020 09:45

Whoopi was tearful when he made the offer on TV to her.

I’m still voting to be on Voyager though!

@ErrolTheDragon - You can get 6 months of Prime free if you are with EE. I used mine for Good Omens too, though - and now it's on terrestrial, as I still like to call Freeview! Grrr. I wonder if Picard will pop up on Freeview like Discovery has?

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2020 11:01

Oh, I didn't know that re EE, it's what we're on - I'll get DH to look into that. Thanks!

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 11:20

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost totally - the serialisation of DS9 was considered a huge risk, but that’s what made it so great.
