Just read this on their instagram page.
They plan on becoming private citizens

OP posts:
Figgygal · 09/01/2020 08:34

I really don’t understand who they think they are or how this is Going to work. They going to make their money by playing on their names names given to them by the very institution they’ve put two fingers up to

I veer between fair play they want to live their own lives and he’s a narcissist who has disrespected his family and his country

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 09/01/2020 08:35

I think the queen should strip them of their titles.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 09/01/2020 08:36

Or, if they really want to be independent then they ought to give up their own irked themselves.

The titles are frippery and royal asset so agree they should relinquish them.

Snog · 09/01/2020 08:38

I think they need to ditch the titles and security

OxfordCat · 09/01/2020 08:39

I don't usually post about Royal stuff but this is sounding increasingly rotten. I understand and would support them wanting to live a quiet private life- Meghan has been the victim of appalling racist reporting by the disgusting tabloids, and on SM, and the Royal family ought to have spoken out more. I don't blame them at all for wanting out. However, this 'move' is nothing to do with wanting to live a quiet life. They seem to want to have their cake and eat it. Relinquishing their duties but remaining in the celebrity limelight and using their HRH titles to gain publicity and even earn money, whilst still sponging freebies off their celeb friends as they have done for the last couple of years. And releasing that statement without talking to his grandmother shows an impetuous lack of judgement and unprofessionalism on Harry's part.

I'm a republican by ideology, but as we've got Royals they should pull their weight and do their duty, or go away and become private citizens without the titles and perks.

PerspicaciaTick · 09/01/2020 08:41

They can choose to leave and I hope they will carve out happy and rewarding lives for themselves
However, the RF has a track record for holding grudges and closing ranks. If things aren't as fab as H&M hope they will be, they may find it impossible to return to the fold.

HepzibahGreen · 09/01/2020 08:44

Wow I never look at royal threads but if this thread is an example of just how much Meghan is hated..and I mean HATED then I'm not surprised they are moving away. I had expected they would live in America anyway, it would be a lot easier to live in LA, surrounded by other super famous people than in the UK.
Why do people think she wants to be the next Oprah? What does she have in common with Oprah? The lifestyle blog?
If I were them I would have just said "we're going to live abroad but will still support our charities and do whatever duties are asked of us" I'm not sure mentioning money at all was a great idea.
Still though, the absolute vitriol directed at her. Quite shocking.

I'm a bit sad about the fab four too, and the rift between the brothers. Hopefully they can make it up. Not sure why Meghan gets the blame for 2 brothers falling out? Did she cause the stuff in Iran too? Probably. Fucking witch. Crown Grin

Strawberrycreamsundae · 09/01/2020 08:51

I'm not in the slightest bit surprised that they're showing their true colours, money grabbing and totally self-absorbed. From the beginning I have felt that they weren't going to be 'conventional' royals and that there would be trouble (and said as much on a Royal wedding thread, getting shot down by all their acolytes)
Selfish, greedy and utterly disdainful of the institution of the Crown and the general public.
I just hope they get stripped of titles and funding and told to bugger off by Charles.

diddl · 09/01/2020 09:00

I'm sure that what they wanted to do they could have done as part of the RF-except earn their own money!

Eastie77 · 09/01/2020 09:01

Poor Lizzie. Harry is apparently one of her favourites so am sure this has all gone down like a led balloon. It must seem like Edward and Wallis writ small. Ah well. Who's going to replace them on official engagements etc? Will Sophie and Edward's kids have to step up? Slim pickings. Maybe launch a PR exercise to rehabilitate Andy so his two can do moreGrin

alreadytaken · 09/01/2020 09:05

man decides he doesnt want to work in family business but make his own way - his choice. I dont read trash so have little idea what is said about them but good luck to them.

So much jealousy on this thread.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 09/01/2020 09:07

One thing I’m grateful though, the light relief of Royal Gossip during this time where all other news are dreadful.,

mrscampbellblackagain · 09/01/2020 09:10

Man who leaves family business though normally doesn't expect to keep receiving funding/house/security etc.

I think it is fine for them to leave but they need to properly leave and pay for everything themselves.

Pedallleur · 09/01/2020 09:16

uncle Andrew's old job(s) are going spare and I'm sure Harry could do those. Plenty of work in the US for organisations like UNICEF, UN etc or he could get a role in a bank. George Clooney works in these sort of roles so it can be done. Princess Margaret never had any issues living well and having all the perks. William has trust fund money and will inherit from his father (Duchy of Cornwall) I presume although Highgrove would prob pass to William/Prince George. Good luck to Harry/Meghan

diddl · 09/01/2020 09:19

"I think it is fine for them to leave but they need to properly leave and pay for everything themselves."

Yes.

We intend to step back but carry on supporting the Queen?

How does that work then?

Hopefully she tells them that no, it's OK, she'll manage without their support & they can in turn manage without hers!

BeTheRabbit · 09/01/2020 09:20

Man leaves family business but uses cachet of family business to make more money than family business ever had, all the while lecturing those who helped support family business on ethical living.

alreadytaken · 09/01/2020 09:25

man leaves family business but granny continues to allow him to live in her home at her expense - man's choice, granny's choice. We are not paying for either so not our business. Security costs are not discussed, we dont know who pays them but if he is still doing some royal duties he should have paid security for them.

All about jealousy and a side dose of racism.

BubblesBuddy · 09/01/2020 09:27

He cannot just leave his family - that’s impossible. He’s very disrespectful to the Queen. She’s nearly 94 and deserves support. He’s a HRH and a senior Royal with a role. He’s coming across as very entitled.

They should stop reading trashy newspapers - like the rest of us!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/01/2020 09:28

Jealously? Fuck that, I don't know anyone who would want the life of any Royal.
No thank you.

GlitchStitch · 09/01/2020 09:28

This has got nothing to do with wanting to escape the limelight. As pp said, they are actively courting it. This is about wanting to make money and not be restricted on what they can say/ do. Then great, good for them. I've said for a while they should go and become private citizens. But they can't have it this way surely, keeping the titles, cashing in on the titles, keeping the homes, a big chunk of the funding and disrespecting the Queen in this way. Hopefully they'll be cut loose.

olivertwistwantsmore · 09/01/2020 09:29

It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

They met in July 2016. 3.5 years ago. So they can't possibly have been thinking about this for years. Do they think people can't read? or count?

And who is 'you' here? The general public??

BubblesBuddy · 09/01/2020 09:29

We do pay for the Queen. She has a grant. She and her family also have enormous privilege. She didn’t pay tax until around 10 years ago.

GlitchStitch · 09/01/2020 09:30

man leaves family business but granny continues to allow him to live in her home at her expense - man's choice, granny's choice

Not sure what choice granny has been given, apparently she's furious.

MarshaBradyo · 09/01/2020 09:32

I don’t get the encouragement part have people been messaging they should split, keep titles and cash in.
