Just read this on their instagram page.
They plan on becoming private citizens

Anyone noticed Cressida Bonas is getting a proper acting career going?! She's in White House Farm, on the telly now. Hadn't realised it was her!

Is she?!

Well she's traded on her royal connections well. Maybe she can provide H&M with advice Grin

I bet she's blessing her stars she didn't marry in!

Guineapig456 · 09/01/2020 01:25

Their updated website under “Funding” details how they will retain their titles, keep funded the current levels of security, keep their “Official Residence” but earn an income at the same time due to this new “independence” they’re seeking. I’m not sure how any of this will work out in practice. It’s such a shame for the Queen who still works so hard at a ripe old age. She deserves better.

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/01/2020 01:54

It's sounding more and more like they are giving up what they no
Longer want to do but keeping the bits they don't mind.
Celebrities manage their own security, do we have to continue funding their six police officers?

They are keeping their status and money, but are no longer having to interact with commoners like you and me. They will keep the money they already have but associate only with Hollywood stars and only then out of the spotlight. Having a picture taken of them may damage their mental health so they can no longer attend royal charity events....

MrsAmaro · 09/01/2020 02:30

That website is an embarrassment. I am normally ambivalent about the Royal family and quite like all the pomp and tradition but this has really pissed me off for some reason. Probably because I’ve had an awful few years at work in a stressful public sector frontline role but have had no real option but to plod on as I have no partner, family or money to fall back on to take some space and and consider what I want to do and recover from the impact on my mental health. And I am lucky compared to many in this country right now. Now this pair who have no clue what most people face every day come out with this absolute rubbish 😡

BeTheRabbit · 09/01/2020 06:22

Meghan will be the complete ruination of Harry, if she has not already been.

Totally disrespectful to the Queen.

Cerseirys · 09/01/2020 06:31

Or here's a thought, maybe a 35yo man is capable of making his own decisions?

Anyway I lost respect for Queenie when she let her disgusting son sit gurning next to her in the Rolls when he should've been down the cop shop being questioned about his dodgy mates.

obviouslymarvellous · 09/01/2020 06:36

But Queenie isn't overly happy is she... sounds like she is saying yes you may want to do this but actually we may not let you. Like others have said sounds like they want to do the bits they like and they sound like a couple of teens with holiday blues!

obviouslymarvellous · 09/01/2020 06:37

Harry and Meghan 'disappoint' Queen by stepping back from the Royal Family news.sky.com/story/harry-and-meghan-to-step-back-as-senior-royals-11904052

MLMsuperfan · 09/01/2020 06:40

I expect there'll be an election for his replacement.

Notmyrealname855 · 09/01/2020 06:41

Their website is a bit insane .... actually truly didn’t expect that of them. Disappointed tbh and a bit bemused - are they trying to basically set up an alternative royal family? They must have the support of someone to do this surely - otherwise who are their allies? This is a very boring version of Game of Thrones!

DarkOceanWater · 09/01/2020 06:51

I think this is a pre-emptive strike on their part. They realise the absolute bulk of their income is dependent on Prince Charles. Once he is King and William holds the purse strings to the Duchy of Cornwall that money stops.

At the moment they can't earn an income. They can't accept freebies. Meghan knows how to monetise Instagram and social media. She knows what a fortune can be made from their name and status.

If the Queen plays ball they know have a couple of years to earn a shit load of cash and build a profile - that will seem them through to when Charles becomes king.

Would not surprise me if Meghan's long term goal is to enter US politics. The royal connections will help but she will need to be independent and free of the restrictions.

They need to retain the titles though or they will become irrelevant.

Iamthewombat · 09/01/2020 07:03

Or here's a thought, maybe a 35yo man is capable of making his own decisions?

Great. Let him make his own decisions without any financial support from the British taxpayer. I’m on board with that.

DateLoaf · 09/01/2020 07:04

MrsAmaro Sorry that things have been shit. on behalf of your service users, thank you for hanging in there. Flowers

I feel sad the way that this all is playing out, it’s not good for anyone. I wonder if Harry and Meghan are naive and have had terrible advice, or are just fundamentally out of touch.

Expo · 09/01/2020 07:06

@Notmyrealname855 agree. Their website is insane. There is no way the queen knew about what is written there. She knows the Royal Family plays a delicate balance. That website runs roughshod over that.

Dozer · 09/01/2020 07:12

The financials are interesting. Taking taxpayers’ money for security wouldn’t be “financial independence“.

MissEliza · 09/01/2020 07:23

@GrimDamnFanjo that's what it looks like. Also, as pp have said, I think they may be looking to establish their own 'alternative' royal family followed by all those who think MM no wrong unencumbered what those senior to Harry in the family think.

Utterlybutterly8 · 09/01/2020 07:23

Once he is King and William holds the purse strings to the Duchy of Cornwall that money stops.

@DarkOceanWater a number of posters have said this, but how do we actually know? Perhaps William would continue funding them through the Duchy of Cornwall just as Charles does now?

dayswithaY · 09/01/2020 07:28

I think DarkOceanWater is spot on. It's all about making money and building a brand, she wants to be the new Oprah and the USA will welcome them with open arms. In the UK they will always be second fiddle to the William, Kate and their children who are the stars of the future. In America they can be centre stage and clean up financially. The Queen must be eye rolling so hard right now.

Waggyboy · 09/01/2020 07:28

The Queen probably wishes that Harry had simply run off to join the Moonies. It would then be clear that the family needed to stage an intervention.

But this is just a weird situation. I can't decide if Meghan, who I would guess is the prime mover in this, is naive or Machiavellian.

Cerseirys · 09/01/2020 07:38

Thought: do they now become like Andrew's daughters? So show up for big royal functions, have their own charities and get jobs? If that's what they're doing then I suppose fair enough. They should give up the security too though, keeping that is a step too far.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 09/01/2020 07:42

I would have had a lot more respect for them if they gave up their titles and extras benefits. They still would have been richer than most.

Dozer · 09/01/2020 07:45

The financials of public funding for the royals seem complicated!

WineOrGinOrBoth · 09/01/2020 07:48

Oh dear. Poor HM. She must be fuming.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/01/2020 07:49

Can't work out if this was the plan all along for them.

The Queen doesn't seem best pleased if we are to believe the tabloids.

I predict a lot of tv shows, interviews magazine articles and maybe a fashion line or two.
