Can you help me?

He’s older, late sixties, early seventies. Tall, white, slim, glasses, white/gray hair. Very well spoken/posh. I’m not 100% about whether he’s a journalist/broadcaster or an actor. Nothing obvious on Google..... a bit vague I know but if Mumsnet can find someone’s ring in Archway I am sure it can help me identify this guy!

We used to get a flight into SW France and there was always a man with a very familiar face on the flights, in fact several. They were English and Welsh rugby players... so DH told me later.

MairzyDoats · 03/01/2020 18:16

@10Georgeandthemadcatsmummy yes, I'm still in mourning

@FelicisNox he made Robin Hood !! Did you ever watch Truly Madly Deeply? I sobbed big snotty tears.

Growingboys · 03/01/2020 18:17

I find Mr Whitehall Sr rather annoying. Like, he's taking us all for a fool.

And the mother bugs me too.

Sorry if this is unsayable on MN but there you go.

Stressybetty · 03/01/2020 18:20

@12Oblahdeeoblahdoe
Ooh I've met Tony Robinson too back in Shrewsbury in 1991! I served him and his female friend a pot of tea for 2. She ordered it while he was in the loo so I didn't realise it was him until I plunked it down on the table and he looked up and thanked me. Was struck dumb and scuttled away and my shift ended about 15 mins later so lost the chance to speak to him.

pinksoda35 · 03/01/2020 18:20

I loved Robin Hood and went to see it three times at the Cinema with my friend and then bought the video/book/song. even to this day me and my friend will usually find a quote from the film to shoehorn into our conversations!

WatcherintheRye · 03/01/2020 18:27

I once saw Ed Milliband on a plane when his nanny was sitting behind me in economy and he came to ask her something

Aw, bless, I always thought Ed Milliband had the air of someone who needed looking after! Grin

Oh, and was it Anthony Head/Jon Snow/Jason Watkins, op?

Ilovecandlez · 03/01/2020 18:30

Michael parkinson

Ilovecandlez · 03/01/2020 18:30

Elderflower14 · 03/01/2020 18:34

paranoidmum2 · 03/01/2020 18:36

Mermaidtissues · 03/01/2020 18:39

Cancel the cheque

EvilRingahBitch · 03/01/2020 18:45

So jealous PutsFootInIt. Was he as beautiful in person as he looks on TV? What was he buying? and what did he smell like?

Probably just as well it was you not me actually. I’d have gone into full obsessed stalker mode.

lilgreen · 03/01/2020 18:46

So here are mine:
Sheila Hancock on the Isle of Wight ferry
Nick Robinson on the tube
Gok Wan in M&S food by Tower Bridge
Wayne sleep in Bournemouth

WhoAteMyBiscuit · 03/01/2020 18:59

@Merryweather80 I must live nearby! Almost everyone where I live has a Toyah Wilcox story Smile My mum scanned Toyah Wilcox's NT membership card on Monday too!

Willow2017 · 03/01/2020 19:03

Rupert Giles is a god amongst men, but ASH’s crowning achievement is his performance as Gently Benevolent in Bleak Expectations
And yes RG is😍

Toomuchtrouble4me · 03/01/2020 19:13

BarbaraofSeville

Is Jack Whitehall's dad famous in his own right, or is he just the father of Jack Whitehall, whoever he is?

So pleased I’m not the only one to think this Barbara!!!

Daffodil55 · 03/01/2020 19:22

Tony flippin Robinson.

He has a double and I saw him (the absolute double) in Ibiza around 6 years ago. I stared and told my friend and she said "Fekkin hell no way! It IS him" but it wasn't!

As for other famous faces in ordinary places, I have seen so many I lost count. Not that I ever counted in the first place.

Felicity Kendall in Lloyds Bank
Jane Asher in M & S
Brian May
and so many more I can't be bothered to write.
I am not star struck or impressed. They are all just humans with familiar faces.

ListeningQuietly · 03/01/2020 19:23

Ultra jealous of the Alan Rickman story

my best was seeing a chap with his wife and family looking progressively more stressed in the aisles of a VERY chavvy supermarket.
After about 5 passes I realised it was Shane Warne newly arrived from Australia
I finally took pity and stopped and gave him directions to the Waitrose a few miles away
I saw him up there a few times looking much more chilled

Dixiegirl77 · 03/01/2020 19:25

Ahhh I served someone 1 day, knew I knew him from a film, couldn't place it for days.....he was in star wars film!!

lilgreen · 03/01/2020 19:26

@ListeningQuietly what a snobby thing to do!

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 03/01/2020 19:29

Kingston isn't that far from Putney, especially on the train if I recall correctly.

Still makes no sense to go to Kingston Aldi when Putney has all the shops he needs five minutes walk from his house (I've been there, swank)

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 03/01/2020 19:31

@paranoidmum2

😂🤣😂🤣😂

shortytrekker · 03/01/2020 19:33

That's brilliant!

ListeningQuietly · 03/01/2020 19:35

lilgreen
I am entirely happy with the choice I made
I still shop in the chavvy shop (as well as Waitrose)
and he's moved away.
I made his stay with our cricket county team give better results Grin
