Just seen a famous person in Aldi but I don’t know who

Can you help me?

He’s older, late sixties, early seventies. Tall, white, slim, glasses, white/gray hair. Very well spoken/posh. I’m not 100% about whether he’s a journalist/broadcaster or an actor. Nothing obvious on Google..... a bit vague I know but if Mumsnet can find someone’s ring in Archway I am sure it can help me identify this guy!

Jon Craven

Henlie · 02/01/2020 19:59

Richard Madeley?!

JazzTheDog · 02/01/2020 20:00

I once thought I saw someone famous in my town. Unfortunately for me I only recognised him because he looked like Gru from the Despicable Me films.

I'm gonna guess Chris Evans, he's white haired these days (but not particularly posh?)

Henlie · 02/01/2020 20:00

Giles Brandreth....

kulaexchange · 02/01/2020 20:01

Micheal Portillo

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 02/01/2020 20:01

Jack Whitehall's dad?

Henlie · 02/01/2020 20:01

Which Aldi were you in Op?!

SymbollocksInteractionism · 02/01/2020 20:02

Jeremy Vine?

PaperbackBlighter · 02/01/2020 20:04

There is no way that Andrew Head shops in Aldi.

NoEffort · 02/01/2020 20:04

This is probably a stupid question but how do you know he's famous if you don't know who he is?

FastAway · 02/01/2020 20:05

OMG @AllYouGoodGoodPeople you’ve got it!!! It was Jack Whitehall’s dad!!!!!!

Thanks so much xxx I’m thrilled (although he’s not as famous as I thought he was)

Sizeofalentil · 02/01/2020 20:06

Crosspost

sqirrelfriends · 02/01/2020 20:07

Ooh, isn't Jack Whitehall's dad a pit posh to be shopping in ALDI?

homemadecommunistrussia · 02/01/2020 20:07

I suppose it was one of those 'that's thingie from thingie' type situations.
I have no clue.

Saucery · 02/01/2020 20:07

I don’t know where any of them shop, PaperbackBlighter Grin

Mystery solved, OP!

TitianaTitsling · 02/01/2020 20:08

@MairzyDoats so jealous! Ever since saw Alan Rickman in the Texas video 'in demand' have loved him!

countdowntonap · 02/01/2020 20:10

Yes! Came on to say Jack Whitehall’s dad. Glad I guessed correctly

FastAway · 02/01/2020 20:12

I can reveal exclusively that Jack Whitehall’s mum was a bit cross with him (only gently) because she was standing with her arms full of bed sheets waiting to pay whilst he gaffes around looking at the flowers.

Mr Whitehall

Just seen a famous person in Aldi but I don’t know who
scarbados · 02/01/2020 20:20

@TitianaTitsling - I was in the bar at Leeds Playhouse one afternoon with a friend. We were talking about the novel she was working on and the series of short stories I'd had published. Alan Rickman walked past our table, heard our conversation and came back to our table and asked if he could join us. (Would anyone ever refuse???)

He said he admired anyone who could write anything more coherent than a shopping list because he'd have no career without writers. The three of us then went on to get scandalously drunk on gin and he paid for our taxi home.

Fabulous man - gorgeous and good company!

DontCallMeShitley · 02/01/2020 20:22

Gyles Brandreth isn't all that tall...
