Just seen a famous person in Aldi but I don’t know who

Can you help me?

He’s older, late sixties, early seventies. Tall, white, slim, glasses, white/gray hair. Very well spoken/posh. I’m not 100% about whether he’s a journalist/broadcaster or an actor. Nothing obvious on Google..... a bit vague I know but if Mumsnet can find someone’s ring in Archway I am sure it can help me identify this guy!

I saw Sheila Hancock in SOHO once when we were on a walking tour. I could not think who she was and spent most of the walking tour wracking my brains. When I said to OH she was married to Inspector Morse we worked out who she was. We also saw Maureen Lipman near Covent Garden.

Wow all these famous people everyone’s met! The only famous-ish person I’ve met ( If you watch soaps ) is Scott Maslen I once served him in a cafe, lovely bloke. I once saw Shona McGarty too and said hello thinking I knew her! 🤣

@JesusMaryAndJosepheen shocked that Twink would be seen in Aldi.
What did she buy?

@ElspethFlashman Was it Judy Parfitt or Sian Phillips perhaps? Both stunningly attractive with fabulous cheekbones.

ElspethFlashman · 02/01/2020 22:20

None of those.

This one plays the imperious mother in law type. And Dowager Duchesses most likely.

ElspethFlashman · 02/01/2020 22:22

I can even remember what her voice sounds like on the telly!

(Deep, posh)

PeakingDuck · 02/01/2020 22:22

If I saw Antony Head in the local shop I would faint Saucery.

I met him on a flight once and had a nice chat with him. He’s lovely!

ElspethFlashman · 02/01/2020 22:24

SIAN PHILLIPS!!

Oh I could kiss you! I'd never have gotten that in a million years.

Flowers

She looked beautiful. Perfect make up and great coat and just fab, sweeping through the crowds.

Hippopotas · 02/01/2020 22:24

Maggie Smith

I used to see Jarvis Cocker is Safeway’s in Sheffield all the time. It’s a Waitrose now.

NewUser5678 · 02/01/2020 22:32

@ElspethFlashman You're very welcome. I'm very jealous! I've 'only' seen her on stage. She is FAB-U-LOUS!

letsdolunch321 · 02/01/2020 22:36

I met Rod Stewart in a pub near to Gatwick Airport, he was very charming.

Bluerussian · 02/01/2020 22:36

I can think of someone who looks like John Curtice - an actor - but don't remember his name. I will investigate.

Stroller15 · 02/01/2020 22:36

I once saw Ed Milliband on a plane when his nanny was sitting behind me in economy and he came to ask her something. The cabin crew made a fuss and only then did I remember where I know this man from.

Shoeshow · 02/01/2020 22:41

Is it definitely a famous person?

I was at a garden centre recently and said to my friend that there was a famous person here but I couldn’t work out where from. I thought maybe a soap. When she see her, she said ‘that’s Brenda who used to work with us!’

It had been 8 years Blush

anothernamejeeves · 02/01/2020 22:45

Please say Larry Lamb

YesThisIsMe · 02/01/2020 22:51

I went to the theatre with DD to see something arty and highbrow and an extremely luvvyish chap swept in past us with his chums wearing cravat and hat. I clocked that it was obviously SOMEONE but couldn’t quite work it out. Slightly camp usher we’d been chatting with nearly lost his mind and stage whispered “OH MY GOD IT’S SIRIUS BLACK!!!!” which is probably not the response Mr Oldman would have hoped for at one of London’s leading subsidised theatres.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 02/01/2020 22:51

Oh my god @scarbados I am indescribably jealous.

paranoidmum2 · 02/01/2020 22:55

@OrchidJewel Grin that made me lol, especially the smug bit!

I ran into Louis Walsh at Leicester Square tube station, he looked at smug at being recognised, I can't stand him!

RuffleCrow · 02/01/2020 22:55

So male, pale and stale op? Really narrows it down Wink

PixieDustt · 02/01/2020 22:55

I was in my local Smyths when I saw Tom Hardy shopping in there. Nearly fell to the floor 🤤
