Can you help me?

He’s older, late sixties, early seventies. Tall, white, slim, glasses, white/gray hair. Very well spoken/posh. I’m not 100% about whether he’s a journalist/broadcaster or an actor. Nothing obvious on Google..... a bit vague I know but if Mumsnet can find someone’s ring in Archway I am sure it can help me identify this guy!

I thought Jack Whitehalls parents lived in Putney?

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 02/01/2020 20:23

Good guess! It was the John Curtice hint - I googled him and he looked like Mr Whitehall.

Jojobythesea · 02/01/2020 20:23

I was at a local beach the other day and Helen Baxendale walked past me with her family. We looked at each other and she looked away quickly as if to say 'please don't recognise me'. Made my day. She's so little in real life.

OMG if this is a wind up, have to hand it to the OP. I have read all the names and I have nothing left.

One of my very young colleagues was very excited to have met Johnny Bairstow in a lift in House of Fraser in Leeds just before Christmas.

TitianaTitsling · 02/01/2020 20:27

@scarbados wow!! Am exceptionally jealous now!

Paddington68 · 02/01/2020 20:31

I saw Tom Allen outside Wholefoods.

BluebonicPlague · 02/01/2020 20:32
Grin A few years ago I saw Germaine Greer buying frozen fish in our local Budgens (she lived locally then, don't know about now) and was impressed by how attractive and athletic she still looked. (For the record, I am not and never have been attracted to women.) It struck me how incongruous and mundane it was, but she had friends with her so I never approached and said gibber gibber gibber thank you.
DebbieTheChicken · 02/01/2020 20:32

Did he have Winston with him OP? I imagine him pushing him round the shop in a pram.

Very surprised he was in Aldi though!

CountFosco · 02/01/2020 20:32

scarbados that is a fabulous story, lucky you.

OP, you've been very flattering, Michael Whitehall is late 70s (he was my age when Jack was born, I've already got 3DC so the idea of starting now is quite scary!).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/01/2020 20:33

I saw Nigel Havers coming out of my hairdresser last year (he was in a play at the local theatre and must have been in for a blow dry) and said to him I was a huge admirer of his. He was so charming, but much, much shorter than I expected him to be.

YoTheGinPussyOfStMawesOnThigh · 02/01/2020 20:35

I was swimming in Cornwall once and there were surfers nearby. One was Oz Clarke. Think he was doing a wine tasting thing at the nearby posh hotel.

Muddyfieldsandprimroses · 02/01/2020 20:35

Terence Stamp ? ( Far From The Madding Crowd, Priscilla Queen of the) Desert

Tana433 · 02/01/2020 20:38

Simon Williams? Nigel Havers?

SpaghettiSharon · 02/01/2020 20:38

@scarbados, I officially hate you! Grin

MrEzraGoldberg · 02/01/2020 20:41

Giles Brandreth?

MrEzraGoldberg · 02/01/2020 20:42

Gyles, not GIles.

loutypips · 02/01/2020 20:42

I was once in London with a friend from Brazil.
Just as we were getting on a train, a lady was getting off who was about my mums age. I recognised her and thought it must've been one of my mums friends, so I said hi how are you? She was really friendly and asked how I was, had a little chat and went our separate ways.
My friend asked who that was, and then it dawned on me that it wasn't my mums friend, but Linda Robson from birds of a feather. 😂

SapphireSeptember · 02/01/2020 20:43

@scarbados
Oh my goodness, you lucky thing! Shock I am rather jealous. Grin I love Alan Rickman, and he always seemed so lovely. 🖤

MrEzraGoldberg · 02/01/2020 20:45

Clearly I hadn't RTFT....he's already been identified Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/01/2020 20:49

I stopped David Haig in the street earlier this year. I'd been watching Killing Eve and I couldn't stop myself. I said what a relief it was to see that he was still alive. He did a little double take and then smiled and said what a great show it was.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 02/01/2020 20:50

I did a doi le take at Anthony Head in Waitrose in Bath which made him do a double take at me.
I also saw him watching a play his daughter was in which was v emotional. He was clearly v proud of her. Smile

BarbaraofSeville · 02/01/2020 20:53

Is Jack Whitehall's dad famous in his own right, or is he just the father of Jack Whitehall, whoever he is?

FVFrog · 02/01/2020 20:55

@scarbados what an amazing story, you lucky thing! My sister once shared a lift at an airport with Sandy Toksvig and her wife, apparently she was very nice!
