Made the mistake of looking ahead Confused it sure I'm going to be ready for weeks 7-9 by end of week 6

Howow · 13/03/2020 19:17

@Jfw82 I'm at the same position as you. Did W6R1 two days ago.

A lot of posts on the internet say it is tougher than WEEK5R3 surprisingly and it really was tougher. Odd because you get walk breaks in W6R1 whereas W5R3 is a continuous 20 minutes.

It might be because I get more complacent and run harder and faster on W6R1 due to being able to finish the 20 minute run. Also, it was super windy with the wind against me for my last run so that could have impacted it. Did you feel the same? Weirdly I also did 3.7k!

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/03/2020 10:47

@Jfw82 and @Howow I’m just ahead and am on W7R2 today. All of week 7 same as w6R3. I found w7r1 tough despite being the same as the previous run, my legs just didn’t feel the love.... or maybe didn’t recover so well? Anyway trying again today so shall report back later!!!

@MrsHerculePoirot Cool stuff. Did you notice W6R1 being tougher than W5R3 too?

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/03/2020 14:18

Yes a little bit funnily enough - I think it’s because my legs haven’t fully recovered in between maybe? I’m hoping they will get better over time! W7R2 was better than w7r1 but still harder than w6r3. I can really feel it in my legs!

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/03/2020 16:01

Just checked my strava and I went faster than usual though by quite a long way so maybe I wasn’t running that slow after all and maybe that’s why I can feel it more in my legs 🤣🤣🤣

forrasee · 14/03/2020 20:05

I've just done W6R1. Not sure I found it harder than W5R3 but definitely harder than I thought I would. I think I set out fasts and confident thinking it would be easy after week 5! Did improve my pace a bit so hoping for onwards and upwards!

Ulysses · 15/03/2020 14:49

That's me finished C25K. Think I went out with a bang rather than a whimper though! It was into the wind and up and down hills and at one point the path was far too waterlogged and I returned home with muddy shoes and leggings. It was probably the slowest run for me as well for a while and it turns out I paused the app so I didn't even have Sanjiv to will me on or congratulate me at the end.

Still, I did it! Thinks it's taken me 11 weeks rather than 9 but got there in the end.

Wishing the rest of you the best as well.

frustratedashell · 15/03/2020 15:59

Well I've not run for a week, felt poorly (not the virus) ran yesterday and managed 20 mins. Just been to gym again, ive just run my 1st ever 5k !! I'm ecstatic!
Very slow but I did it. 50 minutes. Wasnt expecting to run that far. And I went out for dinner last night. At least I've worked off the rhubarb crumble lol

Jfw82 · 15/03/2020 17:11

Well done @Ulysses ! I did W6R2 today which was ok..... am not feeling that ready for 25 mins run for this weeks run 3 but then I felt same for W5R3 and managed it so fingers crossed- not able to get out til Weds so 2 rest days before attempting it!

What (if anything) is anyone doing in their on between run days? I am loving getting out and the fresh air but everything I've read says not to run everyday as rest days are important so trying to work out what's best to do in between

bettytaghetti · 15/03/2020 18:29

Well done Ulysses & Frustrated! Fantastic achievements!

Jfw82 I tried not to think about 25 minutes and just concentrated on the 20 minutes I had done in W5 and then to see if I could finish the rest, iyswim? You know you can do the 20 so anything else is a bonus!

Did W8R3 this morning and felt better than the previous 2 runs this week. Maybe my body is eventually getting used to these longer runs!

IsolaPribby · 16/03/2020 06:50

So I have had a break of a good few weeks. Was away, weather was crap, lost the mojo. Want to get back on it today, but not sure where to pitch it. The last run I did was W5R2. So do I go for W4 or W3?

I am a bit disappointed with myself for stopping for so long, but coming back to the thread and seeing how well everyone is doing is inspiring me!

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/03/2020 18:53

Maybe try a week 3 and if ok go on to week 4 next one? You’ll be back on it in no time!

I just completed week 7 😵💪🎉 cannot believe it. Have struggled a bit but today was fine - maybe the stamina is kicking in now after four ‘long’ runs in a row? Feeling ok about moving to week 8.

IsolaPribby · 16/03/2020 23:22

So I did actually try Week 4. It was hard! But will keep at it now.

Howow · 17/03/2020 12:05

Hey all, just did Week 6 Run 2 and found it OK. Worried as all future runs will now be very lengthy.. no brisk walking intervals in any of them :/

bettytaghetti · 17/03/2020 13:24

Well done Howow, Isola & MrsHP!

Did W9R1 today and wasn't sure I'd make it thanks to my knees today. 🥴 Didn't think I'd make it to 10 mins but then when I did I thought I'll just get to 15 and pause for a drink of water, but then got to 15 and thought just another 5 mins, then another 5 mins and then somehow got to the end!
When I first started I was counting in blocks of 10 seconds so it feels like a major improvement to have stepped up to 5 minute blocks!! (That's the big drawback with running on the treadmill; can always see the time! Tried covering it with a towel but that kept slipping.)
Still nowhere near 5k within the 30 minutes though. ☹️

Got a call from DS1 and his housemate is showing symptoms of CV and so he's now going to stay there to self-isolate. I'm fighting every mum instinct to drive up there and bring him home. 😢

Jfw82 · 18/03/2020 08:43

W6R3 done and surprised I didn't find it too bad! So moving onto week 7 on Friday and so glad I started this and am enjoying it as think it will help keep me sane over the coming weeks (assuming exercise continues to be allowed that is)

myfuckingfreezer · 18/03/2020 18:12

I did W6R2 today and not bad. Definitely still that mental 'I want to give up moment' which is irritating as I know I can do it.

It's amazing how your perspective changes though. A few weeks ago I wanted to know when I was half way through a 3 minute run. Now I run for 5 minutes and am surprised to get the halfway message, or run for 20minutes and realize I could (just about!) keep going.

crapette · 18/03/2020 18:20

W6R2 for me tomorrow.

We are in lockdown but I am still allowed out for a run with my signed bit of paper (for now).

Felt like W6R1 was a bit of a cop out after the 20 mins last week so am expecting it to get a bit more serious tomorrow.

Howow · 18/03/2020 21:54

Just completed W6R3 and found it ok. Lungs felt fine surprisingly today but calf muscles were aching all the way from minute 5 to minute 25 but I'm glad I completed it. Total of 5.9km (but this including 25 minute running plus 5 minutes walking at the start plus 4-5 minutes buying something at a shop). Should start timing and tracking distance it when I start running instead...!

Howow · 18/03/2020 21:55

Are you not in the UK @crapette?

crapette · 19/03/2020 09:31

@Howow I'm in France.

At the moment, exercise is allowed as long as you don't go too far from home and are on your own.

I took my signed form with me, but we are very, very rural so the likelihood of being stopped and checked is pretty low.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/03/2020 09:48

Wow @crapette I’m south London - don’t think we’re that far away from lockdown. I teach though so at moment we’re still possibly going in but nobody really knows!

I just did W8R1 🎉💪 I did 4.21km inc the two walks at start and finish. Also did a new route with less running in circles which was much better!!!

Howow · 19/03/2020 10:31

@crapette Ah wow didn't know they had such tight rules in France (media always focuses on Italy and China) so presumed France was at the stage that the UK is at.

I'm feeling better now I've finished week 6. As all of weeks 7, 8 and 9 are slight incremental additions to Week6R3.

crapette · 19/03/2020 11:23

Our lockdown was announced at 8pm on Monday and came into force at midday on Tuesday so not a lot of time to prepare.

Quite an interesting thread if you want a taste of life in lockdown:
