Could I do it, 55 and probably 2 stone overweight and mildly asthmatic?

KatieRobin · 04/01/2020 16:48

Awishes you could always check with your dr regarding your asthma if concerned. I didn’t think I’d be able to do it and I can. Take it at your own pace and repeat runs if necessary

Hattie78 · 04/01/2020 17:16

@Ulysses just done w1r1! Was no way near as bad as I was expecting! :)

@KatieRobin thank you

IsolaPribby · 04/01/2020 18:28

I've just bought some running gear at Lidl, so I'm all set for Monday!

PlaymobilPirate · 04/01/2020 19:08

First one DONE!! I'm not going to lie, it was harder that I thought!

KatieRobin · 04/01/2020 19:21

Good luck @awishes!

What’s the running gear from Lidl like @IsolaPribby?

IsolaPribby · 04/01/2020 19:27

@KatieRobin cheap!

Haven't tried on yet, but didn't want to spend too much, in case either I don't stick with it, or I immediately lose lots of weight Grin

KatieRobin · 04/01/2020 19:30

Thanks! Think I might check out Lidl. Good luck with it!

IsolaPribby · 04/01/2020 19:34

If you are a small or medium, you should be fine, but I had to rummage hard to find the large (16-18). Would have preferred a 14-16 option but hey-ho. I wouldn't leave it too long before you go, though.

KatieRobin · 04/01/2020 19:58

Thanks for that heads up!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/01/2020 20:01

@Ulysses @MyGhastIsFlabbered what is that app actually called? Is it in the Apple App store? I can't find it!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/01/2020 20:06

Oh nevermind, I found the link to it on BBC site but it's not available in my location (I'm not in UK)

I'll find another one. I did it years ago using the NHS podcasts. I loved it but the music is a bit odd, I like the idea of listening to my own music.

It's been a long time since I ran, it amazing how quickly your body adapts to the program and even more amazing how quickly it forgets once you stop!! I really need to get back into the swing of it. As someone up thread said, the hardest part is getting up and out the door.

cheninblanc · 04/01/2020 20:10

I've just started, I've done run 1. I did a little last year but ready to complete this year

PlaymobilPirate · 04/01/2020 20:28

I played music via amazon and the c25k app just played over the top

I have been meaning to try running since before christmas but the cold and weather has been putting me off. I have a Fitbit running program ready and waiting to start which I assume is similar to couch to 5k.

This thread is semi inspiring. I thrive on challenges and get a real buzz but it is really hard to kick start things with me. I am pudgier than I would like these days.Sad

I will try it on tuesday when kids go back to school

Ulysses · 05/01/2020 09:16

@lifeinahamsterwheel if it helps it's called One You Couch to 5K in the App Store. I've used a few apps and from what I recall the main difference is the intervals between running and walking. This one has 60 secs running then 90 secs walking throughout in week 1 which I am finding manageable.

Well done @Hattie78! Today's a rest day for me but I am itching to go out on a walk at least today and then for a run tomorrow. I really do want to be one of those people that get a buzz from running!

sovielverloren · 05/01/2020 17:05

Hello! Can I join? Saw this mentioned on another thread and although I've pretended to think about it before, this time I downloaded the app, set a time to do it and am just back and feeling soooo proud! The first 60 second run was the hardest because it seemed to last forever, but it got better. Sarah Millican kept me going - which was a good thing as I discovered as I left the house that I had incompetently managed to delete Spotify so did it mostly listening to me breathing (but even more proud I didn't take this excuse to not do it!)
Now to make sure I fit it in on Tuesday - so reporting in here to make me accountable....

GinandGingerBeer · 05/01/2020 17:42

I'm in!
I've ordered a bum bag as I'm Type1 diabetic so need to carry paraphernalia with me, as well as phone. daren't set off without it!
Couple of questions,,,
Does the app prompt you when you're half way through so you can head home?
When do you run if you work full time and it's dark when you get in?
Oh and another one!
How long are you out for, say on wk1 and 2?
Do you carry water?

Erm that's it I think!

Can you tell I've never run in my life?

sovielverloren · 05/01/2020 17:52

Gin there was a bell which must have been halfway. It also told you when there were only 2 runs left so I was reassured that I could do it! I didn't take water but had some as soon as I got home. Sarah also suggested a banana so I did that!
It's 30 minutes.

BreastOfIntentions · 05/01/2020 20:04

Hoping I can join, please! Just done Week 3, Run 1. Used to run a lot when younger, but now that I've got a full time job with a long commute I was finding it hard to fit in any exercise, particularly in the winter when it gets dark so early. I got a treadmill for my birthday and so far am really loving it - no more excuses for me not to do half an hour!

GinandGingerBeer · 05/01/2020 23:38

Thanks @sovielverloren Smile
Bought some bananas 🍌 Grin

Purplewithred · 06/01/2020 09:13

I’ve completed it twice before but lapsed once with life and second time with foot problems. Hoping my foot will hold out this time as I am just too much of a slacker to do any exercise that means leaving home.

IsolaPribby · 06/01/2020 10:14

Just completed W1R1! Grin

I found it hard but I guess that's the point. Having some music on really helped. My running style is appalling, somewhere between an awkward jog and a lurch, but I feel that I have done a real work out!

@KatieRobin my running stuff from Lidl was actually great, though I feel it comes up slightly small. The size L fitted fine. The sports bra from there was good too, but I don't have particularly large boobs.

I'm going again tomorrow after school run!

katzenellenbogen · 06/01/2020 11:02

Week 1, day 1 done. God it was hard towards the end, but some winter sunshine helped. I have even drunk a whole bottle of water - I almost never drink water! Bananas are on the shopping list for tomorrow.

Feeling positive.
