This time yesterday I had completed my first ever 5k!!! I ran with my best friend... who ran her first half marathon last week 😳 I was elated all day, actually over achieved and did 5-56k in 37mins 😊 over celebrated last night and hungover this morning 🤣

That’s an amazing time, well done you @imposib

bettytaghetti · 01/03/2020 11:17

@CormoranStrike that is such a wonderful story! Well done you! I'm sure a very proud grandfather was looking down on you all.

@Imposib fantastic run too! And good luck on your W9 run @sovielverloren!

Just finished W6R3 and feeling a little bit emotional that I've managed to run for a full 25 mins! Grin
God really must hate women to have given us the menopause!🤣

bettytaghetti · 01/03/2020 11:31

Can I also leave a little tip for anyone using Strava? In the settings I think you can choose =>Privacy Controls =>Privacy Zones and set a radius around your starting/finishing point so that people can't see exactly where your home is (for example) when you post your map results. This a particularly useful feature if using it for cycling as people tend to show off post pictures of their very expensive bikes and some scum have used the map data to locate their homes and steal the bikes. Angry
As women running possibly solo, probably a good idea to not let them know where we'll be returning to absolutely knackered and unable to put up a fight!

ComicePears · 01/03/2020 12:12

Hello all, I've just read this thread from.start to finish and wish I'd found it sooner! You're all super impressive.

I started c25k in December but got off to a slow start and repeated a lot of weeks. I'm now on w7 and am finding it really hard going and dispiriting...hopefully this thread will encourage me to keep going! I'm not overweight but am in my 40s with asthma and haven't run since school (and even then, "running" was a fairly loose description! I hated PE!)

So my aim is to finish the w7 run without stopping but at the moment this seems impossible.

sovielverloren · 01/03/2020 12:36

Welcome @ComicePears and well done on your progress! Congrats @Imposib too.
I've been for W9R1 and it was a tough one. Didn't settle into a rhythm as easily, my trainers were rubbing, and it felt hard. BUT, I kept on going and as it happens was a little faster than the other day which is may be why it felt harder!! Only 2 more runs and I've completed this, but actually, I've now run for 30 minutes which is an amazing achievement. I'm fitter than I have been for at least 15 years (pre DC) and what's more, today aside, am enjoying it :)
Shall we create a C25K graduate thread to share what we do next and support each other to carry on?

bettytaghetti · 01/03/2020 13:04

Great idea sovie even though I haven't got to the end yetGrin!
I think we ought to start MN park runs!

CormoranStrike · 01/03/2020 13:18

Would love to join the graduate thread @sovielverloren

ComicePears · 01/03/2020 17:05

Sounds great and I'll join you if I ever manage to move on from week 7 😁🥵

ringletsandtwiglets · 01/03/2020 18:11

Oh, you lovely lot have been busy this weekend! @CormoranStrike, your story made me a little teary, and then I clucked like a proud mother hen when I saw your running pic. Look how joyful you are!

@myfuckingfreezer, will you show us your pictures? I'm glad I'm not the only one searching for flat runs. Grin

Yesterday, I did some covert scoping-out of a local-ish parkrun route. My city does a parkrun, but it's all trails/grass/mud and not in my comfort zone at all. Around 30 mins away, there's a parkrun on hard paths, so I went late morning to have a look. Set off just walking the path, in cold sunshine. Halfway round, it started bloody snow/hailing, and then trying to avoid a puddle on the path, I went up to my ankles in mud on the grass verge. Determined to keep going, I walked through the puddle to wash off the worst of the mud until reaching the halfway point, to find the path completely underwater up to shin level. That's when I turned around Blush

Today, I did my W8R3 on my normal home route. The time went pretty quickly and I felt fine to run an extra 5 minutes, which took me to exactly 3.1 miles (5k) in 44 minutes, including 5 mins warm up and cool down walks.

How fast do you think I'd need to be to take part in a parkrun?

myfuckingfreezer · 01/03/2020 18:16

Here you go! It was lovely but not flat at all Hmm at one point the hill was so steep I was running on my tip toes!

But the amazing thing is that this was my first time trying week 5 run 2 (8minsx2) as I got stuck for ages on week 4 and the first run of week 5. And even with the hills it was great! Can't believe how easy it was and just goes to show much was a mental rather than physical barrier.

ringletsandtwiglets · 01/03/2020 18:33

Oh, it's beauuuuuutiful!!! And wow, tip-toe running up hill is seriously impressive! Good luck for your W5R3, @myfuckingfreezer :)

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/03/2020 18:46

Well done @CormoranStrike - amazing!

Imposib · 01/03/2020 21:01

@ringletsandtwiglets that’s fantastic! You can walk park run and still get a fantastic welcome apparently, all abilities and ages are welcome, our local one is having an international women’s day special.. newbies get a T-shirt.. hopefully I’ll get to ours 😊

frustratedashell · 01/03/2020 22:36

Well done ladies. I did a.run today but only got to 28 minutes, a bit disappointing after fridsys 37 mins. But 28 was the target amount . Tuesday it goes up to 30

littlebirdieblue · 02/03/2020 07:26

I just did my 1st run!! It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and I'm still smiling, can't wait to go again on Wednesday 😃

Ulysses · 02/03/2020 07:38

I did W8R2 yesterday and stayed walking on the treadmill to complete the 5K so it took me 40 minutes in all.

We have a park run here but it's hilly so putting me off. That's a beautiful location @myfuckingfreezer. I am looking forward to getting back outdoors but it's always been so windy/rainy/snowy. Ironically, it looks nice and calm today, my rest day.

I'll be back at the gym tomorrow as I'll only get the chance later on in the evening. Hopefully with the lighter nights I'll get back out there too.

Well done @littlebirdieblue! The biggest leap is getting out there in the first place. Roll on Wednesday!

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 02/03/2020 08:34

Loving seeing people hitting 5k! Well done all!

crapette · 02/03/2020 08:51

Foiled by torrential rain this morning - looks like it's set for the day Sad

CormoranStrike · 02/03/2020 11:45

Any thoughts on how I get faster? My son suggested I go back to week one and start again, but at a faster speed, thinking my stamina might cope with that?

Imposib · 02/03/2020 12:23

@CormoranStrike have you ran with anybody yet, I ran with a group last week and a friend Saturday, definitely the fastest runs I’ve done... I’ve quite a competitive nature though Wink parkrun’s are timed if that would help build speed x

Strictly1972 · 02/03/2020 12:28

Morning. I’ve just done my first run this morning & have come across this thread just now. I’ve been trying to motivate myself for weeks to start moving. I did nearly keel over half way through but felt good when I had done it. Doing my next on thurs before work so that will be tough as it will be an early start.

crapette · 02/03/2020 13:40

Good for you @Strictly1972 and welcome to the thread.

It gets easier, it really does. Good luck for Thursday. I am still grounded today. The rain is like someone is actually throwing buckets of water at the patio doors and the wind is 80kph. Not fun.
