Finished week 7! Still so up for this! Felt I was pushing it a bit more today - hadn't been out since Saturday, but completed it. I have the day off so wasn't running before or after work in the dark and am most proud of myself for getting out there in daylight. Obviously, with the sun shining and time during the day, it would have been lovely to take advantage and run by the canal.....but we are very flooded and I stuck to the roads. But I can see my future! Good to see everyone still at it, wherever we are. I have lost not a pound which is quite disappointing to be honest - but someone did ask if I'd lost weight the other day so some changes are happening...

CormoranStrike · 18/02/2020 13:19

I hear you @sovielverloren I’ve not lost weight either but I feel lighter and think I look healthier

beenrumbled · 18/02/2020 13:47

I've lost about 10lbs since 6th January, but I have been being careful with what I eat and drink as well as running and doing weights. People in work have said they can see a difference.

You're all doing amazing! I am doing W5R2 tomorrow but haven't been out since last Tuesday due to work and the storm, so a bit nervous.

I have also been watching what I eat and getting my steps in, so have lost 18 pounds since Christmas Shock.

I have a lot to loose though so hoping it's just the start!

Riddleofthesands · 18/02/2020 15:46

That’s a great weight loss myfuckingfreezer.

I have lost a bit, maybe 4 or 5 lbs but that’s dieting, but what I am really happy about is losing 2 inches off my waist. It was 35 inches and now 33 inches. So chuffed as I am 52 and found myself with the cliched rolls of fat around my middle. I am positive it’s the running that is trimming my waist.

Beanmama18 · 18/02/2020 15:59

Can I join you all? Week 2 Run 2 here so way behind you all but just reading this has given me the motivation to keep going.

sovielverloren · 18/02/2020 17:03

@Beanmama18 welcome! And well done! You'll be where I am (W8) in no time at all and wonder how it happened.

CormoranStrike · 19/02/2020 15:19

W8R1 done this morning on a treadmill - it’s so funny, taking a 28 minute run in my stride with no fear!

Riddleofthesands · 19/02/2020 17:26

W6R3 done. Thrilled I ran for 25 mins, it was hard and I went pretty slow but hurrah! Chuffed!

ringletsandtwiglets · 19/02/2020 17:35

@riddleofthesands, yay!! Those end-of-week runs seem so bloody scary at first, but love the thrill of completing them. I did my first W7 run yesterday and found it a bit harder than W6R3, even though it's exactly the same. Looking forward to doing it again tomorrow, though!

@CormoranStrike, I know what you mean about how strange it feels to be able to run for that amount of time. I still can't quite believe it! How do you find treadmill running compared with outdoor running?

CormoranStrike · 19/02/2020 18:39

@ringletsandtwiglets I by far prefer the outside, weather and all.

But the treadmill fits in with work sometimes.

lotusbell · 19/02/2020 19:54

Up to W6 now, I repeated W4 twice before moving onto W5, which I managed ok with but last night's W6R1 was pants, so going to do that one again tomorrow. Had gait analysis today and got new trainers so looking forward to trying those out but I'm still pretty slow and my pace isn't great but I'll keep plodding on!

CormoranStrike · 19/02/2020 20:57

I’m a plodder too, but a very proud plodder.

frustratedashell · 19/02/2020 21:04

Tried to do week 7, run 1 yesterday. Exactly the same as week 6, run 3 but it was awful. I put the speed up a bit on the treadmill and conked out after 10 minutes of running. Gutted! I went and tried again today and went back to original speed, managed 18. But frustrated that I did 25 minutes last week but now I cant manage it. I will plod on.

Riddleofthesands · 19/02/2020 21:48

Another proud plodder. Michael Johnson says go as slow as you like but keep going. My friend repeated lots of weeks but one year on she is still running for a half hour 2 or 3 times a week.

ringletsandtwiglets · 19/02/2020 22:15

@frustratedashell, give yourself a rest day tomorrow and try again on Friday. I was much slower on my W7R1 than W6R3. It must be a mental thing for all of us, and then you wore yourself out. You’ll get there!

frustratedashell · 19/02/2020 22:39

Thanks @Ringlets. I will try again on Friday

bettytaghetti · 20/02/2020 11:53

Can I join you lovely ladies? Have been lurking since I found you in (my) week 2, but was nervous with all the mentions of the W5R3 20 min run! Have just done W5R2 and feeling so much more confident about it now. Have placed all my trust in Jo getting me through this, but all your comments are really helping too. You are all wonderful inspirations! 😘

sovielverloren · 20/02/2020 17:56

@bettytaghetti hello! Congrats for getting to W5!

CormoranStrike · 21/02/2020 08:00

Morning all; the weather is utterly miserable here in Scotland and I have W8R2 to do.

I may be lucky and sneak a run between the showers, failing that it will be another treadmill session for me.

Big news - a week tomorrow I am going to be taking part in a proper, organised 5k! This is so incredible.

Thank you all for being my compadres and inspiration along the way.

sovielverloren · 21/02/2020 08:06

Good going cormoran! With half term, routine upside down, house guests and then (gasp) a night out last night, I have fallen behind. Should have gone out for a run yesterday which wasn't possible and this morning was feeling the late night... Still hoping I can get my arse out this evening. Would be W8R1 and am now very aware that I am falling behind!

crapette · 21/02/2020 08:20

I really, really struggled with W4R3 today. I think I will repeat it next week as I don't feel ready to move on Sad

CormoranStrike · 21/02/2020 08:31

Keeping keeping on, that’s what we all need to do, and accept if we fall behind we repeat - no shame or harm in that.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 21/02/2020 16:22

Just psyching myself up for W6R3! It's been a long time since I've run for 25mins at once. I've been managing fine with it all though, so I should be able to do it...

What are people's thoughts on treadmill vs outdoor running?

I've been worrying about getting outdoors again. The majority of my runs have been on the treadmill as it's more convenient usually but I know that it's much easier than outdoor running and feel like I should do some outdoor runs. I suppose I'm a bit worried that I'll get to 5k on the treadmill, then try to do it outside and fail miserably! But then I've got nothing particularly that I'm aiming for, just getting to 5k so does it really matter if it's treadmill or outdoor?

It's possible that I am overthinking this!

Riddleofthesands · 21/02/2020 16:43

W7R1 done. IToldYouIWasFreaky I am new to all this but I think treadmill is probably a bit easier. I have managed to do my runs outside so far but my main reason is the fresh air boosts my mood. I am 52 and menopause has given me some low days so the C25K is part of my health plan. However if I get any aches or twinges I will take an extra rest day and move the run indoors in the hopes a treadmill is a safer surface. I wouldn’t worry about it one way or the other.

Funnily enough Michael Johnson said on my run today that if you usually run on a treadmill try an outdoor run for a change or if you run outside try a different route (to stop yourself getting bored presumably), but I think that means a run is a run treadmill or whatever, it’s all good. Another factor is I have a route I feel really safe on but if I felt unsafe I would use a treadmill in a heartbeat.

Good luck with today’s run.
