I am at the end of a 2 week break due to some unscheduled grandchild care. My legs have been in agony but it seems to have eased up now (not running around after a cruising 9 month old helps too!)

Actually looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow, but I am going to take it easy and repeat week 2 just to get back in the swing of things. It was 20 degrees here today so I am hoping not to need the gloves.

frustratedashell · 02/02/2020 19:24

Got my running trainers today. So happy!

ThursdayLastWeek · 02/02/2020 19:45

Oh what did you get frustrated??

Haven’t run since Tuesday, shins have been so painful but getting better so hoping to be back to it this week.
@GirlInTheMirror27 - absolutely not too late, we’re all at different stages! You’ll probably overtake me at the rate I’m going 🙈

lotusbell · 02/02/2020 22:59

Well done everyone for their achievements! I did W4R3 tonight and while it was slightly easier than R1 and R2, I still feel I need to work on those 5 minute runs so I'm repeating W4 and seeing how that goes before moving into W5. Still pretty slow and ploddy but feeling great, like I'm getting into the swing of it. Keep on putting one foot in front of the other!

CormoranStrike · 03/02/2020 12:19

I’ve just done w5r1 - whoooo hoooo! I feel epic.

20 minute run and I didn’t stop!

I was slow, but faster than dog walkers, and I found the first two minutes the hardest. After that I just knew I wasn’t going to stop!

CormoranStrike · 03/02/2020 12:27

Sorry that should say w5r3

sovielverloren · 03/02/2020 12:51

@Cormoranstrike woohoo!!!! Well done. I will think of you as I tackle it tomorrow. I will tell myself I just need to get through the first few minutes (which I definitely can do) and the rest will be a breeze.

Ulysses · 03/02/2020 13:12

Same @cormoranstrike! Feel really proud of myself and had a wee burst of tears when it was finished Blush!

It was absolutely fine. The first 5 minutes were a bit mentally hard going because I was telling myself it was going to be an endurance but then it got better and I really enjoyed the 2nd half.

Still can't quite believe it!

redavocado · 03/02/2020 13:23

Aww well done everyone on your successful w5, r3s! I found the initial thought that I wasn't going to stop running any time soon the hardest bit and then it started to get easier, especially when I knew I was heading back towards my starting point.

I started week 6 this morning and found it really tough for some reason. Confused

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 03/02/2020 20:08

Well done Wk 5-ers!
Wk4 R1 done for me today - absolutely gutted when I got back to see my app hadn't recorded my run!! The thought of being able to message my stats to my DP at the end of the run is mostly what keeps me going 🤣. I really tried to cover a bit more ground today (my runs so far have all been around 2.5-3km) but now I will never know if I got any further which is rather annoying - went a new route too so can't even compare how far I got to previous runs grrrr! Very happy to have managed both the 4 min runs and I felt I didn't take too long to recover in between.

ThursdayLastWeek · 04/02/2020 15:44

Hurrah, week 4 complete! I’m looking forward to the weeks where the runs vary a bit - I find I’m impatient when it’s the same pattern x 3

Windy but sunny here today

ringletsandtwiglets · 04/02/2020 17:15

Oh my god. I’ve just repeated W5 R3 and actually managed to run the whole 20 minutes this time! I’m as red as a tomato and a bit sweaty, but I bloody did it!

I love that lots of us are at around the same stage. It’s really motivating!

ringletsandtwiglets · 04/02/2020 17:20

@myfuckingfreezer, how are you getting on? Your post reminded me of the reasons I’m doing it too, and I thought of you when I started my run today. Hope you’re doing okay and keeping going xxx

CormoranStrike · 04/02/2020 18:17

Oh well done @ringletsandtwiglets

I may be mad, but I’m thinking of entering a Supernova 5k at the end of March.

Anyone else?

ringletsandtwiglets · 04/02/2020 18:53

Thank you, @CormoranStrike :)

I don't think you're mad at all. It would give you an amazing goal to work towards. I know my pace is too slow to try organised events at the moment (I'm around 16 minutes per mile), but I can see how they'd give you a sense of achievement. Have you looked at parkruns too?

CormoranStrike · 04/02/2020 19:08

I am very very slow but I am not sure that matters - for me it is a run, not a race.

Our local parkrun route is hilly and I don’t think I am ready for that yet!

sovielverloren · 04/02/2020 19:15

I DID IT! I am so proud of myself and THANK YOU all who got there first! Week 5 Run 3, 20 minutes non stop. Exactly one month to the day when I pulled on my tatty jogging pants and trainers and said to DH "I've downloaded this podcast thing and I think I'll give it a go". Wow. Noone's home so I only have you to share with, so thank you for being here!
And for those coming up to W5, hope you are as encouraged as I was to trust the plan and go for it!

CormoranStrike · 04/02/2020 19:17

That is amazing!!!!!!!!

I’m very proud of you

sovielverloren · 04/02/2020 19:20

Thanks @CormoranStrike. We're all amazing! (PS also very very slow. I am covering less distance on these runs than when I was walking more!)

CormoranStrike · 04/02/2020 19:27

Yep, me too but I am improving, so my speed/distance will one day get there

Ciderandskatesdontmix · 04/02/2020 20:04

I did my first parkrun on Saturday... it was appalling! I only have road trainers and it was so muddy it was like an ice rink! Plus I came down with this horrible cough/cold on Sunday so I'm not surprised I struggled. I was hoping it would have started to pass by now but it's really floored me.
Hoping to be back on it for the end of the week.

CormoranStrike · 04/02/2020 20:31

Oh I hope you feel better soon @Ciderandskatesdontmix

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/02/2020 06:58

@Ciderandskatesdontmix hope you feel better soon. I’ve had something similar and can’t shake it. I’ve only missed one run day but have stayed on week 3 and will do so until I actually feel better and legs don’t feel wobbly all the time. I’ve done week three runs now 5 times 😂🤦‍♀️

katzenellenbogen · 05/02/2020 09:58

I'm repeating W2. Monday was pretty horrific after a 2 week break, but today was quite a bit easier which is reassuring. Zero degrees this morning, but a pretty nice view.
