Tories please tell me the positives

I have to admit I’m feeling pretty bleak this morning, but I recognise that I am living in a left wing echo chamber.

I would really appreciate your views on why the result is good and how our country will improve. Please tell me how the NHS and schools and vulnerable people will be protected.

I’m not being goady, I would honestly really appreciate some positivity.

Me too, Mrsmcgregor - I'm a respectful person but genuinely don't understand why so many people looked at Boris and his party and thought 'Yep, those are the guys who I want to speak on my behalf". There must be lots of happy blue voters who are looking forward to something terrific this morning but I have no idea other than 'getting Brexit 'done'' what it is.

DuckWillow · 13/12/2019 07:03

Haven’t got anything but then am not a Tory voter.

I’m not surprised by the result but am shocked by the scale of it

It’s unfortunately the result of a society which is raising two fingers to the most vulnerable..and they see this as the new centre ground.

Thinking and thinking to find positives but...nope....got nothing.

Mrsemcgregor · 13/12/2019 07:04

I can’t believe that people honestly voted thinking the NHS would be in danger and austerity would continue. Surely not? Surely we are missing something positive about 5 more years of conservatives?

'It's not Jeremy Corbyn' is the only positive I can apparently see amongst the Tory supporters I know in RL and OK social media.

9 years of power and even the most wealthy blue boys I know can't seem to come up with something good the Tories have achieved.

Pinkyyy · 13/12/2019 07:08

The proposed Australian style border control was a big selling point to me. Less immigrants should hopefully mean less unemployment as there will be less people looking for work.

Flatwhite32 · 13/12/2019 07:09

I'm devastated. I'm a teacher, and see every day the impact that Tory cuts have had. It's just awful. I, too, would like to hear some of the positives from Tory voters.

RuffleCrow · 13/12/2019 07:10

Some of them know what a woman is.

Sorry, that's all i have. Xmas Sad

Flatwhite32 · 13/12/2019 07:10

@Pinkyyy how will that work for the massive doctor and nurse shortages in the NHS which relies significantly on immigrant populations to sustain it?

GiveHerHellFromUs · 13/12/2019 07:11

I think a lot of people have seen this as the chance for a second referendum without having to vote for Corbyn.
The Tory majority today shows that the country want Brexit.

The Tory manifesto pledges a lot to the NHS. On Question Time a few weeks ago Boris acknowledged a lot needed to be done to help the NHS but that until Brexit was done there just wasn't the money there to do it, so hopefully we can get the ball rolling now.

The same applies for social care. The Tories know what needs to be done. I think the difference is that they want people to be better off going to work than not working.
The important thing is being able to differentiate between those who can't work and those who don't want to. Naturally those who can't should still be able to live the same lifestyle as those who do.

It's like any politics I guess - we have to just cross our fingers and hope they mean what they say.

OverByYer · 13/12/2019 07:12

Genuinely shocked this morning.
Austerity has had massive impact where I live.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 13/12/2019 07:12

@Flatwhite32 the conservatives have already said that doctors/nurses etc won't have to go through the same visa process as other immigrants - it'll be fast tracked for them and much easier for them to get permission to enter the country

Mrsemcgregor · 13/12/2019 07:13

Thank you Pinkyyy I appreciate you responding. I am struggling to get back into paid work (I volunteer) and I hope that more jobs do become available to me. That would positively benefit my life and my family greatly.

lovelyupnorth · 13/12/2019 07:15

Didn’t vote Tory have in the past.

The only positive I can see is certainty which will help business plan for the shit show that’s coming.

Also proof lying and avoiding the interview could be the new norm.

Oh and goodbye NHS and hello chlorinated chicken and Big phrama

Flatwhite32 · 13/12/2019 07:15

That's good @GiveHerHellFromUs

Can you tell me any positives about schools? We are on our knees.

Mrsemcgregor · 13/12/2019 07:17

I would guess that a large number of people, including remainers, just want Brexit over with. That combined with Corbyn’s unpopularity must have encouraged a larger conservative vote?

OP posts:
Bogoffrain · 13/12/2019 07:18

They won’t tax away loads of inheritance in taxes.

lovelyupnorth · 13/12/2019 07:19

@Mrsemcgregor

Sadly if we exit the EU with the current deal or no deal don’t think they’re will be more jobs unless you work in an area that has lots of EU migrants like the NHS, cleaning or picking fruit.

Mrsemcgregor · 13/12/2019 07:19

Thank you giveherhellfromus it’s encouraging that Tory voters believe Boris has positive plans for the nhs. I know politicians are generally not the most trust worthy of people, but I really hope that after Brexit we will have enough money to really invest in the NHS again and that he keeps his word on this.

OP posts:
TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 13/12/2019 07:20

But @Pinkyyy it's already been established that there will be more immigration as a result of Brexit because Boris will have to do a Visas for trade deal to secure any agreements for import and export with India, China and others.

The immigration will just increase from the rest of the world when it decreases from Europe.

Unusualsuspicion · 13/12/2019 07:21

"a lot needed to be done to help the NHS but that until Brexit was done there just wasn't the money there to do it"

Brexit won't be 'done' for a decade or more, by which time there won't be a recognisable NHS . Those who believe a word Johnson says have an interesting time ahead...

Mrsemcgregor · 13/12/2019 07:23

The pound rose sharply on the exit polls last night, will this have a positive trickledown effect for normal people?

OP posts:
Mrsemcgregor · 13/12/2019 07:25

unusualsuspision oh yes, you’re right. 31st if January is just the beginning of a very long process isn’t it? Brexit probably won’t be done before the next GE even.

OP posts:
TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 13/12/2019 07:25

@Bogoffrain so rather than delay a tax till after you've died, allowing you to enjoy the money you have at your disposal while you're alive and then applying a tax.

You voted for the people who instituted the changes to care home funding. In all likelihood there will be no inheritance to tax once all of your assets have been sold off to pay for a bed and armchair in a care facility, where if you're really lucky you'll just about be kept clean and fed.

Whyjustwhy23 · 13/12/2019 07:26

The country can make decisions without being stuck in a loop.

That’s all I have, as a lifelong Tory voter I spoilt my ballot so 🤷🏻‍♀️

GiveHerHellFromUs · 13/12/2019 07:27

Can you tell me any positives about schools? We are on our knees.

The Tories have committed to £14billion investment in schools and an increase of funding per pupil by 2022.
