Just a quiet place to sit. If you want to gloat or opinionate about Corbyn please go over to AIBU.

TreacleBee · 13/12/2019 23:25

Yeah, so glad it's on. They're making me feel less alone!

TreacleBee · 13/12/2019 23:28

Miriam is fabulous.

Honestly I'm going to be sitting down tomorrow and trying to start a plan to leave England. Even if I only get as far as Scotland, I don't feel like this is my country anymore.

IamAporcupine · 13/12/2019 23:29

i am devastated
can't believe it really

Cattenberg · 13/12/2019 23:34

I’m gutted. Most of us will lose our EU citizenship and all the opportunities that go with it. And the thought of a Boris-Trump trade deal terrifies me.

I really want to emigrate and build a positive future for DD and me. But my parents would be devastated and DD would really miss them too.

I’m researching private health insurance plans to see if I can afford one, because I’m worried that we might not be able to rely on the NHS for much longer. The proposed increase in the cost of US drugs would surely cripple a service that’s already struggling.

Pepperama · 13/12/2019 23:34

Just now, older friends of ours. ‘Britain used to be great before joining the EU. Everything was better. We can be great again, so I voted for the Tories to get us out’. Lifelong Labour folk bring sold a fake dream about big Britain. So sad

Cattenberg · 13/12/2019 23:36

I don't feel like this is my country anymore.

Me neither. I hate the direction this country is going in and what it says about us as a nation. I don’t belong here.

stairway · 13/12/2019 23:44

Boris Johnson’s Dad said it clearly enough already, the population as a whole is pretty stupid. They’ve believed the lies peddled by the DM and Sun. The daily express even had a 2 page spread for the hard of thinking to help them cross the right box.

Swirlygirl · 13/12/2019 23:44

Are you joking? JC is a million miles away from who my grandad father and my dad would have voted for. We now have another tory government because of him.

It’s all on his head. The fact he is refusing to stand down now shows where his ego is at.

Where are the MP that are brave enough to say ‘ y’know what? Let’s roll our sleeves up and sort this mess out!’ —- instead we have got quiet reflection ...

I’m done. Labour do not represent me anymore

HeIenaDove · 14/12/2019 00:19

Ah yes the Daily Express. Who warn us about snowmaggedon every winter whether we are going to get snow or not.

to encourage panic buying so some of their advertisers can make money

Good luck with that now Daily Express.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/12/2019 01:05

Cattenburg me too. I also read tonight that Damian Green said (today I believe) that people need to start paying into an insurance type system to pay for their care.

The Tories have wanted to do this for years. Declassified Cabinet papers show Margaret Thatcher talked about it.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/nov/25/margaret-thatcher-pushed-for-breakup-of-welfare-state-despite-nhs-pledge

Cattenberg · 14/12/2019 01:31

@StarbucksSmarterSister, that doesn’t surprise me, sadly.

I’d like to contribute more money to the NHS, not a private company, but I don’t think this is an option. I strongly believe that the NHS should be free at the point of use - the sickest people are the ones least likely to be able to pay. But I’ve got to look out for myself and my DC.

HeIenaDove · 14/12/2019 01:35

Starbucks im angry about that but not surprised. I really fear for disabled ppl/ ill people of which DH is one. Just read a thread in AIBU. about how nasty left wing people are.

Yeah cos the social housing threads on here are never full of right wingers telling tenants they should be grateful or pointing out there are many homeless people...................the only time they seem to bring up or care about homeless people is so they can pit them against social housing tenants.

HeIenaDove · 14/12/2019 01:44

I remember them mooting the idea of £20 to see a GP

I give it two years........

TreacleBee · 14/12/2019 01:50

I feel like I'm being over dramatic but there was a point when I was watching The Handmaid's Tale, where I thought 'omg don't stay there any longer, run for the Canadian border now while you can still get in legitimately, before the crazy government kicks in properly.' And I kind of feel like that irl right now. Sad

ThanosSavedMe · 14/12/2019 05:35

I felt that reading the book @TreacleBee

KitKat1985 · 14/12/2019 07:53

What is really depressing, is how our 'first past the post' voting system is completely failing people versus a proportional representation system.

Look at the vote stats:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2019-50779901?fbclid=IwAR1FshPtsgWymKc7aiYu2kLDL_zMvlUU8-GpB2xEwCyVUz9-o3sFQhyGCr8

In a nutshell, just over 43% of people voted conservative. If you combine the figures for people that voted Labour, Lib dem, SNP or Green you get nearly 50%. In a nutshell, that means the majority of people voted for left wing parties, and yet left wing politicians are now only now a minority in government. No wonder so many people were pissed off on results day. Hardly very democratic is it? Our current voting system is no longer fit for purpose now that multiple political parties can be voted for, and we should move to a system of proportional representation.

Scotmummy1216 · 14/12/2019 08:01

Completely agree with it the system is broken. Peoples vote has been based on brexit alone. Surely they care about our nhs, crime statistics going up, education. This election has just been overshadowed by it. Im really sad Corbyn is not going to be pm he is the first politician who i really felt truly cared and seemed all round a top person.

highlandcoo · 14/12/2019 11:17

I feel rubbish about the election result and the vulnerable people who are going to suffer more. And at the same time the fact that so many privileged people don't seem to care. I am lucky to be financially secure and would happily have paid more in tax.

I think lots of us feel powerless in this situation .. what do we do now?

Today I am going to sort through our stuff and take a load of warm clothes to our local homeless support centre, go to the supermarket and put some nice stuff in the food bank box, and also transfer extra money to Shelter, Crisis at Christmas and other similar charities. I always send them something at Christmas but this year will increase the amount.

It still doesn't feel anything like good enough.

Society should be fairer Sad

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2019 11:41

I did the foodbank today, too, and it was full.

It saddens me that this is normalised : we shouldn't even need foodbanks! Certainly not on this scale!

Piggywaspushed · 14/12/2019 11:42

scot, I think you'll find if you watch the vox pops, people voted Tory believing they were voting for more nurses. Unbelievable but true.

WeshMaGueule · 14/12/2019 13:00

"care in the community" for people living with autism. Now where have I heard that before? Hmm

TheBlueStocking · 14/12/2019 15:52

@KitKat1985

It's disgraceful how it's being treated as if there were only a negligible number of Labour/other liberal party voters. When it's actually millions. A huge proportion of the country have been fucked over. And now we're being silenced as well, as if our feelings just don't matter. Is it democracy if half the country is absolutely heartbroken?

HeIenaDove · 14/12/2019 16:26

Well that explains the demonstration in London last night.
